Thick, creamy, and loaded with chocolate flavour, this vegan chocolate mousse smoothie is so decadent, you’d never believe it’s healthy!
Everyone knows that you shouldn’t read food blogs on an empty stomach — not unless you’re masochistic, anyway. All that delicious food staring back at you from your computer screen, just begging to be made and enjoyed… It’s torture!
The same goes for food photography. I will never (ever, ever, ever) pick up my camera for a shoot unless I’m properly fed… and even that’s not a guarantee that I won’t try to eat my subject(s) anyways. But can you blame me when I’m working with things like this?
Ugh. You guyssssss. This smoothie… I’m having a hard time trying to talk about it and keep things PG. I just want to make all sorts of inappropriate noises, which will do nothing to entice you to make it and probably only scare you away. But I can’t help it! You know those things that render you completely speechless? And all you can do is moan, groan, and try to express yourself by making odd gestures with your hands? This is one of those things for me! Luscious, thick, creamy, whipped, chocolatey goodness… And all you need is 5 minutes, a few ingredients, and a blender…
I can’t. I just can’t. I mean, look at the creaminess!
It’s the avocado… and the chia. You can’t taste them at all, but they do incredible things for the texture. And to make things even better, they also add a nice little boost of healthy fats, fibre, protein, omega 3s, and calcium. Not bad for something that tastes like decadent chocolate mousse! So if you’ve never tried adding these gems to your smoothies, you need to stop what you’re doing and go change that. I mean, don’t stop what you’re doing yet — keep reading until you reach the recipe — and then stop what you’re doing and go make it. I promise you won’t be disappointed…

Looks healthy and yummy! Going to give this recipe a try this week.
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
I’ve long been a fan of avocado in smoothies, but I have to say it’s been some time since I plopped some chia seeds in my smoothie…so much time in fact, that I can’t remember what it’s like! That really needs to change…especially after seeing this beauty! 🙂
Shelly
This was my first time using chia seed but it definitely won’t be my last. OMG how have I survived all these years before you I discovered your brilliant blog?! Seriously, not only for me but your recipes get power foods in my stubborn kiddo. She begs for your pancakes. Thank you! You’re a genius and I hope you know how much I appreciate that you do this!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Awwr thank you for the sweet comments, Shelly 😀 It always warms my heart to hear that someone enjoys my recipes!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I had a banana less smoothie this week. It was a sad day indeed, My houseguest took the last ripe banana and all I had left were these green things staring me in the face.
I say moan and groan away my dear and throw in a few fun expletives while you’re at it. Ef’in good smoothie. I love the pour shot; incredible.
Brittany
I LOVE adding creamy avocados to smoothies. This one looks amazing lady!
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely
Yes, please!!! You may have had a difficult time taking the photos, what with the empty stomach and all, but they are fab! Which makes me need that smoothie even more!
shobelyn
This looks awesomely delicious. I found you at FG. Your pictures are amazing, and your food looks mouth watering.
Heather
It looks so creamy a decedent. I came across a desert recipe very similar, but have been cautious to make it because of the avocado’s. It just seems so weird to eat them as a dessert, but now that I have a visual, and you promise I can’t taste them, I will probably give it a go.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
All texture, no taste — promise! Start with 1/4 if you’re not too keen. A little goes a long way!
samantha
Oh my gosh, this looks sooo good! The pictures are to die for (I love food photography because I just so can’t do it…yet…). Bookmarked to try for my after gym snack tomorrow. Yum!
Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes
I genuinely thought that this was a real chocolate mousse and not a smoothie, looks so good!
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables

Arman @ thebigmansworld
Spoon face….this looks absolutely epic. I am yet to try avocado in a smoothie (heck avocado in sweet things) but this makes it so tempting. Seriously, could do more than faceplant it…. NSFW words. BOOM
Davida @ The Healthy Maven
Glad you found your words and I can actually picture you ooooh and ahhhh behind your screen haha. Great minds CLEARLY think alike 😉

Seriously?? I think you’re gonna make me a chocolate convert. The creaminess factor here is like 20 out of 10, I can tell. GAH. I want it.
Lisa
Ohh this looks delicious! I seriously can’t stop adding avocado into my smoothies. It makes it just so creamy and delicious. I also like the addition of coconut flour. Now, I think I need to make a smoothie!

Chocolate & smoothies have been my life these past few days (/weeks). It’s about time I morphed them into one snack.
Lauren
HUBBA HUBBA! Give me a spoon and one of these right meow! This looks so creamy I could die, Amanda. Great work! And it is always hard for me to photograph food for even Instagram without digging into it. At least with this, it won’t get cold while you take pictures ;o)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.

Ursula @ Northern Ambitions
This looks amazing! It would be a great dessert after a day on the bike.
