I usually have a pretty good idea of where I want to go with a post. An idea. A direction. A killer opening line… Today, though? I’ve got nothing… nothing aside from a caffeine-induced high that’s making me incredibly chatty, anyway. I mean, I’ve got a list of things that I could talk about, but nothing I really want to talk about, ya know? And you would think that would encourage me to just take a day off from posting, but I’ve kind of become addicted to you guys…
It’s crazy. Blogging has become such a huge part of my life that it’s hard to imagine going without it. I know I went through my fair share of rough patches with blogging (hello two extended absences), but I feel like I’m finally in a good place with it… even if I occasionally can’t think of anything to say. So on that note, I’m just going to let the thoughts flow and see where we end up. I hope you’re ready for some freestylin’…
[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymNFyxvIdaM&w=560&h=315″]
I’ve gotta say, life’s been good to me lately. I mean, I did wake up with a pretty impressive zit on my chin this morning, but I suppose it could be worse – the dang thing could have been on the tip of my nose. And besides, it’s hard to feel down when you’ve got a gorgeous breakfast in front of you…
I kid, I kid. But admit it… I scared you for a second there, didn’t I? No? Not at all?!? Bah! Fine… you know me better than I thought…
Oats topped with plain Greek yogurt, homemade applesauce, almond butter, and cinnamon.
And yes, I realize that I talk about breakfast a lot, but that’s mainly because a) it’s my favorite meal of the day, and b) it’s what’s usually sitting in front of me while I write up my posts. Although I suppose that kind of reasoning would mean that I could talk about makeup too, since there’s a lot of that lying around as well…
Welcome to my perfectly organized chaos… Blogging and getting ready for the day – multitasking at it’s finest. And the pig? Totally responsible for my current high. But let’s go back to the crispy rice cereal for a second…
I’m actually hoping to whip up a batch of rice krispie squares this weekend. They used to be one of my favorite treats when I was a kid (read: I could go through an entire batch in a single day), but it’s been a good long while since I’ve actually had one. This is not okay. The problem is… I don’t have any marshmallows, so it looks like I’ll be making one of those almond butter and honey versions that I’ve seen floating around the web. Are those any good? I’m skeptical when it comes to messing with the classics, but we’ll see how that ends up turning out.
And you’ll never guess where I ended up last night. The mall… Sephora, more specifically. Will you believe me if I don’t post any pictures? No? #Proof or it didn’t happen? Fiiiiiiiine. Just a second while I go grab some shots… Geez you guys are demanding *grumbles and walks off*
I originally went in to buy a bottle of Urban Decay’s makeup setting spray because I was almost out of mine, and apparently I needed the Tarte bronzer as well. Who knew. The pink makeup bag is from Victoria’s Secret, and the tees are from Old Navy. They make me smile like a goofball.
On that note, I hope this post managed to get a smile out of you. I meant what I said about being totally smitten with you guys… Aaaaand I’m going to end it there before I get all sappy and embarrass myself.
Happy Friday, friends!! 😀
. – . – . – .
If we were chatting over breakfast, what would you be having?
Are you a fan of Rice Krispie squares? Any favorite recipes?
First thought that pops into your head when I say… BANANA.
Liz @ The Girl on Fire Now
I would be having coffee and oatmeal
I don’t really like Rice Krispies
despicable me minions
Brittany @ FreckledNettles
Blogging had become such an integral part of my life too. Isn’t it funny how things turnout? If we were chatting over breakfast, I’d be having a bowl of oats/oat bran too! I am a fan of the squares. I love any kind that involves PB. Banana… and PEANUT BUTTER! I mean, c’mon. How much more perfect does a combo get?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Wellllll, it gets a little more perfect with almond butter, but that might just be my allergy bias talking 😉
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
I loooooooooove those T-Shirts and will definitely need to go buy some just like ’em. So cute!!
Banana…….bread. 🙂
Alyssa @ Road to RD
I actually was thinking your first breakfast looked pretty! Maybe it was the bright green apple. Om nom nom
Sarah @ A Refining Adventure
I’d be having some oats right along with you. Except I think I’d get you to fix mine because yours always look so much better! And because things always taste better when someone else makes them for you. 😉
Banana = peanut butter!!! One of my all time favorite combos!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m right there with you on the idea that everything tastes better when someone else makes it… EXCEPT when it comes to my oats. I think I’m just really particular when it comes to those, so I hardly ever let anyone else make them for me 😆
Happy Friday!
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
I miss blogging when I don’t blog! I also feel like I miss out on everyone’s lives when I am too busy to keep up with everyone’s posts everyday. It’s so funny, it’s like the blog world is another little world! Love it.
Meghan @ fitnesscrEATures
professional freestyler over here, huh? This was great! 🙂 I am super jealous of your mall trip + your make up collection, something I would love to improve on. Old Navy is the cutest, so i’m not surprised that’s where those wonderful T’s are from! If we were hanging out over breakfast, I’d be eating one of two things – eggs (cooked any sort of way I’m feeling) OR Greek yogurt + granola + an apple. The latter has been my breakfast everyday for the past 2 months and I’m not seeing anything changing any time soon. Inject me with natural and fake sugar first thing in the morning and I’m good to go all day long! 🙂 You’re welcome, co workers, for ensuring my head stays on properly.
Have a great weekend!
Also, I’m a little obsessed with blogging now too and I haven’t been doing it for too long… It’s just the best thing ever!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’d be more than happy to help you with your makeup collection. Truth be told, I think I love makeup even more than I love food. Except for coffee… coffee will always be #1.
Rachel
haha I was like.. is she switching things up??? lol hmmm breakfast time– lately I’ve been doing yogurt and such.. so I’d prob be chomping down on that LOL
Not a fan of rice krispies, I actually never liked marshmellows growing up– they were too sticky and now I just have no desire to find a vegetarian friendly one lol buuuuuttttt I have made really cool ones for a party! My friends said they came out amazing.
I got the fruity pepples, red food coloring, and marshmellows.. mix the food coloring with the marshmellows, add the fruity pepples, and bam.. tye dye rice krispies lol
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
Love Rice Krispie treats! One of my old coworkers would make them for anyone’s birthday so I have had quite a few of them recently! I think they are best when they have peanut butter too! I think most everything is better with peanut butter though so that’s probably not much of a shock.
Katie @ KatieEnPursuit
Sometimes blogging seems like a chore for sure…that’s when I tend towards the goofy side of life! If we had breakfast I’d probably be too busy guzzling coffee to get words out of my mouth, that’s how I roll. Happy Friday Lovely Lady!
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
Banana=nutbutter….the two just go hand-in-hand! I have to admit, I was a bit surprised when I first saw the pic of your “breakfast”. Definitely too plain for you! Love rice crispy treats, though!
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
I do the same thing in the morning and blog while I do my makeup! Multi-tasking is a necessity these days. Do the people at Sephora know you by name? You deserve a most loyal customer award or something. Oh, I can’t wait to see how your rice crispy treats turn out! I love healthified desserts and they sound like they’re going to be amazing. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 Some of them do know me, actually. There and in Starbucks, which makes sense considering makeup and coffee are my two biggest vices.
Hollie
I have ea lot of those days where I’m like…what to blog about…I sit there for a while before I decide. That is just my general style though I guess. If we were going out to eat, I would probably actually be having eggs or an omelet..but if I was making breakfast pancakes for sure. So yeah, that’s that!
sara @ Fitcupcaker
I love rice krispy treats, especially if they are homemade, and I love licking the bowl, all the gooeyness, yum!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
You freestyle quite well…maybe we need to get you rapping 😉 And I was actually never really a rice krispie treat fan. Like, I would eat them if they were placed in front of me, but I never really went out of my way for them. I’m curious as to how an almond butter and honey version would work!
And ohh, is that the makeup spray you told me to buy?! I haven’t been able to find it yet – Brantford is lacking in a Sephora, so I may have to wait until I’m in London and try to make a trip.
If we were chatting over today’s breakfast, I’d be having a green smoothie. Needless to say, your breakfast would be prettier.
Anddd when you say banana, I think of this: http://i.imgur.com/KQX03.jpg
😉 Happy Friday love! <3
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Rofl oh that totally just made my afternoon <3
And yup! That's the spray. Stuff has seriously done wonders when it comes to making my makeup stay put.
Miss Polkadot
As if you could ever trick me into thinking that was your breakfast :D.
Will you believe I’ve never had a “real” Rice Krispie bar? In my defense: it’s simply because they’re hardly known around here by now let alone were when I was a child. I did make up for that in parts, though, by trying these a few years ago: http://oneveganandoneflirt.blogspot.de/2011/01/childhood-favorite-presentingthe-rice.html
No marshmallows, no almond butter and a shprt ingredient list so maybe it’s a recipe for you? I’d still say slather some AB on top ;).
First thing that comes to mind: Banana softserve! More specifically: Thin Mint-style softserve.
Sigh, I still wish Sephora had stores around here… or maybe I should be thankful they don’t because else I’d be broke right away?! Also, the shirts are super cute!
Happy Friday!
Missy
I’ve had those vegan squares (with brown rice syrup) and they are good… they are not rice krispy treats though. You miss the marshmallow… BUT they are good as their own thing. Make some! (Then go get another box of cereal and some mallows (0:
Khushboo
Haha that first breakfast is like the Ugly Duckling of cereal- it needs some doctoring up and ASAP! If we were chatting over breakfast, I’d be having a bowl of plain Greek yogurt with raw oats, a chopped pear, loads of cinnamon, peanut butter, almonds and vanilla extract- heaven :)! Along with loving rice krispies treats, I used to make delicious RK clusters by coating the cereal in melted chocolate and then freezing till hard- so easy that I might have to bring it back asap!
And peanut butter was the first thing that popped to mind when you said banana…my mind is not in the gutter ;)!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Well neither was mine until you brought it up!! 😛
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
If we were chatting I would be eating oatmeal, but with tons of peanut butter, yum. Sephora is so bad for my wallet. That store….
Lauren
The first thought which comes in my head is the dancing banana singing peanut butter, jell-ay, peanut butter, jell-ay!
I would definitely be having coffee while talking to you over breakfast! Coffee is a MUST with breakfast.
If you decide to make rice krispies with almond butter, please do share your thoughts and the recipe. #kthanks 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Will do! But if they don’t turn out… we’re going to pretend it never happened…
Cori @ olivetorun
If we were chatting over breakfast we would be having coffee with cinnamon (obviously) and I would be eating scrambled egg whites with pico de gallo and half an avocado.
p.s. Don’t take another blogging leave of absence please 🙂
sophie
I love the freestylin!
Breakfast I’m kind of like you with the greek yogurt love (damn the stuff is so addictive! ) ill have whatever fruit is in the house with a pile of greek yogurt on top then some almond butter, coconut butter and some buckwheat groats. Sooo good! Obviously I eat the fruit underneath first leaving the yogurty/almond/coconut goodness till last!
Banana = smoothie!
I never actually liked rice crispy things, I found them too sweet? I loved it when my mum would melt chocolate and make little rice crispy/shredded wheat cakes by pouring the chocolate over and setting in the fridge. Totally could not just eat 1 at a time!
kris
George! – That was the first thing I though of when you said ‘banana’. No idea why.
Loveing your freestylin 🙂
If we were chatting over breakfast, I’d be having toasted english muffins with almond butter and bananas spread on. That has become my newest breakfast obsession.
And I loveee rice krispies squares! I could put away quite a few of those kelloggs rice krispies treats back in the day 😛 Actually I probably still can. hehe. When I don’t have marshmallows I used to make rice krispies with brown rice syrup and nut butter. 1/3 cup brown rice syrup, 1/3 cup cashew butter, 1 T vanilla extract, 1/4 t salt. All melted and mixed into 2 cups crispy brown rice. Set in the freezer. They’re especially good when dipped in chocolate 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Bananas = monkey = Curious George 😀 And all I have is honey, which isn’t as thick as brown rice syrup so I’m wondering if it’ll work…
Ari @ The Pace of it All
Those shirts are too cute, I love the one on the right especially! Yay for more makeup, I love your stash! And your breakfast always looks so good!
Christina @ Pinch of Healthy
Breakfast is oatmeal with toasted coconut, kiwis and an iced almond milk latte! Even though it’s cold here in Alberta I refuse to go back to hot coffee!
Oh and I used to be obsessed with that song in my highschool days…brings back some good memories this morning 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
A fellow Albertan?! Which part?
Christina @ Pinch of Healthy
Yep! I’m in Edmonton…how about you?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Eeee! I’m in Edmonton too! I honestly didn’t think there were bloggers in Edmonton 😆
Caitlin
Definitely put a smile on my face today 😉 I love how excited you get about Sephora…it’s like me in a book or running store 😛 Have a great weekend, girl!! Can’t wait to see what you come up with for your rice crispy treats!!
Carly @ Snack Therapy
I’m always amazed at how coherent your posts are! My posts are always freestylin’ and all over the place. I’m sure it drives some people cuh-razy. I bought that same cereal and totally thought about making rice krispy treats. I don’t know how I feel about the whole AB + Honey thing… I’m sure they’re delicious, but nothing can replace the classic!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
Bahaha..loving the Banana question. And first thought…HANNAH! 😉 Let’s just say I have been called Hannah Banana a time or two ;).
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Amanda Panda over here 😉
Sky @ The Blonde In Black
Banana. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. I ain’t no hollaback girl. That’s what comes to mind haha
If we were having breakfast I would be completely jealous of your little black tee! That is so cute. I think I may have to order one. Annnddd we would be talking about how you like rice krispies and I’m just not a fan of them.
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
Definitely loving your freestylin today! Sometimes it’s good to be random!
I really have to give that oat breakfast a try. It looks sooo good! Oh yes…Sephora…it’s a dangerous store to go into!
First thought that pops into your head when I say… BANANA…definitely would have to be my blog post for today because it’s all about bananas. 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I totally had to laugh when I saw your post this morning. Great minds think alike 😉 Happy Friday, Holly!
Lisa
I like your freestyling methods. It’s always fun to just start off randomly. Breakfast this morning is some banana oats! Can’t get enough lately.
Bananas are like the perfect Breakfast food. Well, with other things…and maybe that’s because you said banana.
Now they’re just on my mind.
Haha, we both got sucked into Sephora 😉 Don’t we always though…and funny, I just bought that setting spray again too. I love the stuff!
Have a great Friday love!
Sarah @ Blonde Bostonian
I need to try to make some homemade apple sauce. Yours always looks so delicious! Happy weekend!
Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes
Bananas = banana protein pancakes or a smoothie for me 🙂
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
I love freestylin’ posts! its fun to see where they go. and i have to admit i did a double take at the first breakfast pic and i scrolled back up to make sure i read it correctly, and then i scrolled down and i was like “ohhh ha-HA!” 🙂 one day im going to compile all your make up posts and just go nuts at sephora. im like a lost lamb in that store as of now, but thats going to change. and you say banana i say MUFFINS!
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy
I love rice crispy squares! My mom used to bring them to school for my birthday instead of cupcakes like everyone else did. (Back when you could actually bring food.) I haven’t tried the almond butter honey kind. I made some with agave and coconut sugar once and they were good but not the classic.
When you said banana I immediately thought of that annoying orange on YouTube. My son loves that dang thing!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I remember being able to bring treats to school on birthdays too! And now you’ve got me thinking that I might have to just go out and buy some marshmallows… I don’t want to waste good cereal.
Laura Agar Wilson (@lauraagarwilson)
Fun post! If we were chatting over breakfast we would have a big pot of coffee on the go of course, and then I think some pancakes or some freshly made banana bread, which incidental is what I though of when you said banana!
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
I love your “thinking happy thoughts” tee! A nice way to inject a little good in your life when you’re just not feeling it. 🙂 First thing that comes to mind when you say banana: I made your banana bread last night. 🙂 It’s absolutely fantastic–I finished 1/3 of it last night and had a slice today with my breakfast, hehe. 🙂 Have a happy Friday and a great weekend, girlie! <3
Jessie
You did fool me w/ your cereal bowl for a quick second. I actually was thinking that you must be under the weather before I saw the masterpiece beneath 🙂 Ha Ha!
First thing that pops in my head when you said banana… a person dressed up in a banana costume. Random right? lol
Have a good day, gorgeous!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Were they doing the Peanut Butter Jelly dance? 😀
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers
I’ve gotta’ admit, I thought that first breakfast pic looked pretty good… totally unlike you I suppose, but still good! (cereal lover over here) As you noticed, my post was a bit scatter brained today too. It happens. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh don’t get me wrong – you know how much I love my cereal. Buuuuut a bowl of rice krispies probably would probably hold me over for all of about 20 minutes.
Sarah @pickyrunner
I eat bagels for breakfast every morning. They’re so addicting I can’t stop! Cereal doesn’t fill me up since I don’t drink milk so I eat it as more of a snack. Sometimes the free flow posts are the best. I find that when I take too much time to think about what to say it sounds forced. Happy weekend 🙂
