Oh Monday, you sneaky little bugger.
I don’t know about you guys, but I definitely wouldn’t object to having an extra day inserted between Saturday and Sunday. The weekend always seems to pass by way too quickly… I mean, wasn’t I just at work? And now you’re telling me that I have to go in again? I kid, I kid. Well, not about the extra day bit – I want that – but I don’t really mind Mondays. You can’t change ’em, so you might as well make the most of ’em, right? Right. I mean, isn’t that kind of what life’s all about? The attitude with which you approach things? You can be a Negative Nancy (my apologies to anyone named Nancy) and focus on the aspects of your life that might be slightly further away from your ideal; OR, you can do your best to find the good in every.single.day, because it’s always there, even if some days make it harder to see than others.
A cloudy day, a headache, a zit on your chin, rush hour traffic, jeans that feel like they shrank overnight – little things that add up to chip away at your happiness. But what about that smile from a stranger? That text from a friend? That delicious cup of coffee? What about that time where it’s just you doing what you love, whether it be running, reading, napping, or painting your nails? Are you missing out on fully enjoying those because you’re too busy focusing on the negatives? Life will always be a mix of good and bad, but it’s how you handle that mix that makes all the difference.
On that note, it’s been a while since I joined up with the lovely Diva’s MIMM, so I figured that I’d share some quick highlights from this past weekend because it was kind of a good one. There were flowers for me ;)…
Cake for Dad…
Good food for everyone…
Tears shed over the final episode of Gossip Girl…
Hidden treasures found on evening walks…
(although it kind of looks like the picture perfect scene for a horror movie to start)
Aaaaaand decent progress made in Candy Crush…
Yessiree, it was a good one. But it’s time for me to head in to work, so I’ll leave you with this…
Happy Monday, friends!
. – . – . – .
What kind of job are you going in to on Monday mornings?
What’s good in your life right now?
And for my fellow Candy Crush addicts… what level are you on?!
Halloween unique costumes
Howdy! Quick question that’s entirely off topic.
Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly?
My website looks weird when viewing from my
apple iphone. I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to fix this issue.
If you have any recommendations, please share. Cheers!

“I mean, isn’t that kind of what life’s all about? The attitude with which you approach things?” <- So so so so soooooooooooooooo true!! Actually, I think the shift in my thinking over the last month or so has been the BEST thing in my journey with Intuitive Eating and in the process of healing and finding of myself. For so long, I was trapped in an endless cycle of negative thinking, but I've finally gotten to a point where I'm starting to see the positives…I truly believe that there is a silver lining in just about everything we come across in life. I also believe that everything happens for a reason…to mold us…shape us…help us grow. Sometimes we are dealt a bad hand, but our lives aren't just one game of cards…it's an endless night of games. Sometimes we have to bluff our way through it, but we will always get another chance to try our luck again in the next hand. 🙂

Doing some serious happy dancing for you, girlie 😀 So glad to hear that you’re in a better place <3

Since I’m a teacher, I’m off right now! It’s so nice! I know people make fun, but teaching is HARD! However, it is incredibly rewarding and worth every minute! That cake looks so yummy! What kind is it?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Teachers definitely don’t get the credit they deserve. And the cake? It’s just a simple homemade Black Forest made with chocolate cake mix, cherry pie filling, and whipped cream. I go over some basic instructions here http://www.runningwithspoons.com/2013/04/21/10-steps-to-one-tasty-cake/

Mondays are actually my “Tuesdays” since I work Sunday-Thurs, so I don’t mind going NEARLY as much as on Sundays! I work as a counselor/case manager for a non-profit agency that works to get individuals with mental illnesses integrated within the community and as independent as possible. It’s a really interesting job and I’m on the road a lot so the hours FLY by!
What’s good in my life right now? Well…tomorrow is my last day at work for the week…then I’m going to the Cape with my boy!

I just started playing candy crush yesterday.. and I’m kinda sort of addicted already, Ha! I hear the addiction gets worse huh?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yep! It gets to the point where you start feeling a crazy amount of accomplishment for finishing a level a day.

lmao… it seems like everyone is on Candy Crush madness… I dare not to try it!

I really needed to see this today! It’s hard to be positive on a Monday, but it’s been even harder this week after dealing with the fire in my city over the last few days. But…it’s at 75% containment now, and we got some much-needed rain today, so those are things to be happy about for sure!
My Mondays and Thursdays are spent at my internship at a local news station, working with their weather team. It’s challenging, but in a good way since it’s basically training for my dream job and even though I never know what to expect, it’s always exciting and pretty fun. I don’t even mind that it’s an unpaid internship!

Happy Monday to you too!! I have to try extra hard to head into work with a positive attitude and smile…it really does make the day so much better & makes it more enjoyable for everyone around me haha! Thanks for the reminders. I have to jump on this candy crush bandwagon… 🙂 looks fun!

Great life advice. 🙂
I spent my Monday working at my nutrition store job & got a less-than-thrilling (bad news) letter at lunch time when I came home… but, like you said, it’s all about how you handle it. I can sit & stew over it, or I can take action & do the best I can to make it not so sucky. 😉
Your flowers were beautiful & that cake & enchilada casserole – YUM!!
Katie @ Live Half Full
I feel ya, this week I’m keeping things simple so I didn’t put much pressure on my Monday- it turned out perfectly!

I could have used this post BEFORE my Monday started! I got my self into such a mess of anxiety and my thoughts were just spiraling out of control! It was ridiculous. I don’t even know what I was so worked up about really – I made a decision I wasn’t 100% happy with but I need to do what you said in your post – see the good in every day and stop focusing on the negatives. No one wants to be a negative Nancy, it doesn’t nothing for one’s mood! Looking back, I can see that Monday and me being a mess has actually taught me a valuable lesson so there really is good in everything – somedays we just have to look harder than others 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Overcoming struggles makes us stronger, and learning from mistakes makes us grow. Really, it’s win-win 🙂
Tessa @ Amazing Asset
That first quote is a great one and important to remember! I have been ms negative nancy far too much lately. While I do feel justified in some of the ways I have been acting because of what happened with school and other whatevers going on, I need to stop dwelling… stop the negativity. There really are good things around us on a constant basis and when you actually take the time to look and open your eyeballs, accepting what there is, you will see so much more.
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
Practically everyone I know is a Candy Crush addict! I am almost resisting the urge for that reason haha! You are so right, it is how we deal wit the mix of good and bad that matters. I try to not sweat the small stuff and look on the positive side…sometimes I don’t. Evening walks are the best!
Maria @ Pappa Don't Preach
Amanda, you are so right!! Seeing the good in each day is also all about perspective. Some people have such negative outlooks on everything. It’s so much easier to make the best out of crappy situations.
My Mondays – Fridays are filled with excitement (see, I’m using my positive perspective) at my office, where I assist clients using our online software to help them with their social media efforts. Yup, I get to help people post to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc ALL day long. Hence why my own social media activity is pretty sparse. The best part of my day? Leaving! Woo hoo! 😉 Just kidding…?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh boy, could I ever use your social media expertise… I’m terrible at it!
Jorie @ The Midwest Maven
Hi! I just stumbled upon your blog but I have to say—I love it.
And I couldn’t agree more with your outlook on the Monday blahs (or anytime blahs). There will always be “downs” or negatives in our life, but without them, there’d be no ups either. Gotta have a balance to really appreciate it! Cheers 🙂

Oh I feel you on Monday mornings… I’m a dental hygienist and even though I always get a 3 day weekend, it seems like M-R is SUPER long!

Love this post. I’m lucky enough to go to my dream job every morning at MyFitnessPal – doesn’t even feel like work!
