Ello? Is this thing on?
It is! It’s been a while since I’ve shown my mug around here, and I figured it was time to quit being a lurker on my own blog and make an appearance, so…
… hullo!
Sorry. I’m just a little excited. And no, it’s not because I found a new place to live while condo shopping this afternoon. I’m still waiting to be hit with that “omigosh this is it!” feeling when I walk through the front door, and so far… nada π
BUT! I didn’t come home empty handed…
I came home with Essie! (in Sugar Daddy and Limo-Scene)
This may not seem like a big deal to those of you who live south of the border, but I haven’t been able to find this brand of nail polish anywhereΒ up here in Canadaland, and when I saw it (in the grocery store, of all places…) I did a double take and immediately snatched up a couple. I needed some light pink polish anyways, so… yay π
But back to feeling excited. I have no idea why, but I’ve just been feeling so flippin’ happy lately. Always smiling. Always walking around with a little extra pep in my step. Often times bouncing off the walls. I feel like I’m on a constant high but I’m completely sober… unless, of course, someone’s been slipping me something without my knowing it, in which case… thank you?
πΒ Nawwwww, can’t be that (I hope).
Maybe it’s all the sunshine that I’ve been taking in during the day…
… or falling asleep to the sound of rain hitting my window at night…
Maybe it’s all the time that I’ve spent lost in good books…
[I finished this today, and it completely blew me away. The message is so profound, yet it’s written in such a simple way. Beautiful contrast. I highly recommend picking it up.]
Or maybe it’s all the good food that I’ve been eating…
[Chocolate Vitamuffin with Greek yogurt and almond butter frosting]
[Sweet potato fries with an Amy’s Texas burger and almond butter]
[Fresh cherries]
[Β½ cup vanilla almond milk, 1 Tbsp. cocoa, 1 frozen banana, 1 Tbsp. almond butter, handful of ice]
[Sweet and savory oats with cottage cheese, hummus, and blueberry jam]
Mmmm. Yes. It’s definitely all the good food. Remember how off I felt just a little while back? Well, after two weeks of making a conscious effort to eat more, I feel like a completely different person.Β I’ve said it before, but I need to say it again:
Food has a HUGE impact on happiness.
… and that’s perfectly okay. It doesn’t mean that we’re eating emotionally; it means that we’re using food to thriveΒ instead of simply survive. Sure I could get by on a lot less, but… why would I want to?
To smile less? To be tired more?
Uhm… sounds great π―
Sounds like garbage, actually. And it feelsΒ like garbage, too. Trust me on that one. Been there. Done that. Wasn’t impressed.
What’s the point of dragging your feet through life? Where’s the fun in not having the energy/desire to smile and laugh like a crazy person? Where’s the pleasure in constantly telling yourself that you can’t have the things you want?
Answer: No fun. No pleasure. No point.
So don’t be afraid to eat, so that you have the energy to live your life to the fullest.
And don’t mind it when people give you strange looks when you walk around with a huge smile on your face… they’re just jealous π
. – . – . – .
Do you find that how much you eat really affects your mood?
Yes! Too little = π Enough or a little bit more = π π π π
Do you get all giddy and excited when you come across a new product in the store?
Do I ever! Canada was late in hopping on the Greek yogurt bandwagon, and the first time I saw a tub of it in the store, I squeaked out loud. No lies. I got some strange looks.
Lenna (veganlenna)
Amanda, this is soooo amazing to read!! I am happy just when i think about how happy you are π And I have to say you have some nice nail polish, and a very nice face as well π
I have to agree with you completely – when I eat not enough, I am all unhappy, energyless, sluggish. When I am properly “fueled” I feel that I can rule the world π
vegan aphrodite
Hi sweetheard <3 Love to see your beautiful face on the blog for once π Your nail polish is so cute!!
As always- you are SO right!I cant believe how much food actually plays in on our mood! But it certanly does! When Im not eating enough-which is quite often- I feel crappy and akt like a bitch. Or actually I dont akt like one, but I want to π Food is a mood booster! What I have found over the past days, is that regular eating makes me so much more happy! I still want to eat more, but at least Im on my wat π
I want those sweet potato fries right now π But it is 6 am, so I better wait a few hours π
Enjoy your day and energy!
Nicole
oh gosh. it’s such a true statement. good food = good lookin’ face (ie) good moooood!! I find that when I eat bland meals, my whole evening is ruined sometimes. I feel like a grump, wanting to re-do dinner. So I just eat a sweet fruit bowl with some oats and my smile returns (as well as tummy endorphins? like exercise? i say yes)
PS: you’re adorable. let’s be friends.
happy weeeekend!!!
kris (everyday oats)
haha, you’re so cute! I actually felt like you were tapping my computer screen π
Food definitely affects my mood. Good food makes me very happy π
And, do I get all giddy and excited when I come across a new product in the store? – um, YES x’s a million! haha. Particularly food products π
I’m glad you were able to find the essie nail polish finally! I love their colors so much! And the pinks you picked out are such pretty shades.
Julianna
food makes me happier!! i turn into a super cranky nofuntobearound kinda girl when i have an empty stomach (:
and i definitely get excited when i see something new in the store. i honestly think i spend more hours in food stores than any other store combined!
Christy
I am a total bitch if I don’t eat enough and I also feel ditzy about everything so that’s when I know I need food pronto. Today, luckily, I got to eat every three hours. I always try to aim for that, but it’s tough with work.
Laura
Food does make me happier! If I go longer than 2 hours without eating I become such a grouch.. no fun.
I’m from canada too, and I saw Essie nailpolish at walmart. I was shocked!
Good luck on the appartment hunt π
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
I looked in Walmart but they didn’t have it! At least not the one I visited anyways…
Rose
You should post more photos of yourself on here π . By the way does anyone tell you look like Demi Lovato? You look a lot like her to me! It’s weird. π
kaila @ healthy helper!
AAAAhhh so jealous of your essie find! I love their colors but I can never find it ANYWHERE!!! Glad you liked the book!
Laura
I have a question for you!!
I have no problem eating what my body needs (AKA a lot!) when I’m spending the day alone, but when I’m with my family and I realize I’m going to the kitchen 2-3x more often than they are, I start to get really anxious and question how much I’m eating. Do you ever deal with comparing yourself to those around you?? Like, logically I know my body is different and if I’m hungry I need to EAT! But how do you deal with it??
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
I used to struggle with that a lot, but I would just keep reminding myself how crappy I started feeling when I ate as little as other people did, and then I started to feel kind of sorry for them π I know I can’t get by on less, at least not happily, and remembering the bad times is what keeps me from wanting to go back.
Dana
Laura, I have the same problem too! I just do it though anyway and realize that we all have different needs. I mean, my parents are way older then me so just naturally their metabolisms are slower. Also, I think it makes my parents HAPPY to see my going into the kitchen a million times a day π
Stephanie @ Aspiring
Yes!!! When I don’t eat enough, I become the bitchiest bitch in the world.
For instance, at dinner time, I avoid talking to my mom if I’m making something like Dal, because it would take long time and during the making process = I just say the cruelest things to my mom π
Same here for the Greek Yogurt! I was like “whooooaattt??”
Also the coconut milk (which I ended up not liking), Bars, and so many things are slowly starting to make their ways up North; which is awesome!
Tara
I’m so glad you showed your beautiful face!! I love seeing pictures of bloggers π It’s nice to put a face to the lovely blogger we read about everyday!
I agree that food definitely has a huge impact on happiness. Starving yourself is awful, it makes you feel like crap, it makes you antisocial, it makes you depressed. Eating gives you energy, makes you glow, makes you smile, makes you squeal with delight, and is so fun to enjoy with friends so how could you be antisocial? Your vitamuffin mess would definitely make me happy. Fresh cherries have been making me smile every morning too!
I go crazy when I see new products. Like.. it’s insane. I jump up and down and smile and laugh.. I actually go to several different super markets because they all carry different things. It’s like an adventure everytime I go!
Lisa Fine
I love trying new products, too! It’s one of the reasons I got into doing product reviews last year. It’s always fun to get packages, but it’s even more fun to eat and experiment with new food finds.
I definitely get affected by food, but I think often more physically than mentally, but it all depends on timing. Sometimes certain foods [like certain dairy products] really make my stomach feel off, and other times I’m fine. It’s all unpredictable, I suppose.
Love those pretty pics! π
Aimee
Great Essie nail polish – i have to try that color – its perfect for summertime!
Can’t wait for you to get your new place and hear all about it! You’re going to love decorating it!
I loved this post – it out a huge smile on my face – i coildn’t agree with you more – good food definately pits me in a good mood!
Keep smiling!
Stephanie
pretty girl! π my friend also recommended the Alchemist! I’m so glad I found it at the local library π and yes food definitely affects my mood (i need my dose of chocolate and carbs everyday or no one can stand my xtreme irritability)
Stephanie
pretty girl! π my friend also recommended the Alchemist! I’m so gld I found it at the local library π and yes food definitely affects my mood (i need my dose of chocolate and carbs everyday or no one can stand my xtreme irritability)
Tori (Fresh Fruition)
Gosh, you’re just unbelievably gorgeous!
I agree wholeheartedly. I think my problems with dairy and stomach aches were causing me to eat less than I realized. I felt like I was frustrated so much more than usual and I would snap at people for no reason. Since I’ve been eating more (I’ve been hungrier MUCH more since stopping dairy for a few days) I’ve felt so much better. No more long naps, no more feeling lazy and sluggish. All I want to do is get up and move around, do chores, help around the house. My parents are loving it π
It doesn’t always have to be “healthy” food, either. It’s okay to have a slice of cake or a scoop of ice cream. Those few minutes of enjoying a treat make all the difference!
I love love love finding new products! Although here in the US we seem to have things quickly- it’s just me who hadn’t discovered them yet. Eeeep!
I have some vitamuffins in my fridge that I haven’t eaten since I quit Greek yogurt. I need to get on that… I’d love to make my own chocolate muffins, but they never seem… chocolatey enough. HAHA!
Chels
Oh my, whenever I see a new product in a store that is healthy and worth trying I practically jump up and down, then again I look forward to grocery shopping. I agree food does mess with your mood, as my fiance how I am when I have not eaten in 3 hours and he will let you know!
Katie
Hi love!
I love the colors you picked! I have sugar daddy! Love it! Yay for Essie! Things like Essie make me happy! Its the little things!
Mike and I went to Target tonight and you KNOW I left with a new Essie, Strawberry Shortcake! Its divine! I will share it on the blog tomorrow, actually going to paint my nails right tonight with it ; )
Seriously, if there is anything you ever really want to try, I would love to send you a package of goodies! Blog world is nice for that, my friend Sara sends me these soy crisp things I cant get here, and I am always so happy! lol
Let me know! I love to shop for stuff, and if there are any luna bars, any bars, etc… let me know! You are a kick-ass blog friend, sorry to swear , but you are, typing kick butt just wouldn’t prove my point ; )

After reading your blog post, I realized that my fowl moodwasactually hunger. thank you. I am trrying to eat more and it ‘s really helping.
What store did you get then nail polish ? I am an Alberta girl and have never known about it.
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
I’m glad that it’s helping π And I found them at Superstore, of all places…
sproutybuns
I love Essie polish, a LOVE those colors!! Food definitely directly affects my mood. I immediately know if I snap, am crabby or feel low on energy then I’m not eating enough. I find it a blessing to be able to recognize when my body is (and isn’t) getting the proper fuel.
missymiller
FOOD = MOOD.
PS- Ypu’ll find the perfect place. If you are not in a rush…wait it out.
SUNLIGHT girl. I made the mistake of not seeing my current apartment during the day and it is dark.
Missy no like.
Cassie
it’s so great when I find new products (especially at whole foods and trader joe’s) and that ice cream looks amazing!
Alexis - PumpedforPumpkin
Love essie nailpolish!!
Yes food does effect how happy I am.. When I eat more I’ve been feeling so much happier and like you said peppier! I have so much more energy during the day and I’m smiling, less irritable, and just enjoying life.
And I LOVE finding new products on the shelf.. especially cereals and yogurts π
Char
Gorgeous! π
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes
Yes! for Essie nail polish! it has yet to come to my city…..haha I get really excited when my city finally gets new stuff π I squeek all the time with excitment over new foods or products π
Krissy
Yeah! I’m SO glad you found the Essie nail polish – although I was excited to send you a little care package – I won’t lie π xo
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Awwr maybe we can still do an exchange π I just gotta get everything figured out with this moving business first…
Holly
Yes I agree — too little food leads to cranky, unhappy Holly. When food intake and exercise is in balance, then I feel good and I feel happy!
A friend game me The Alchemist before I went off for college (over 6 years ago) and I haven’t even started it yet. Thank you for the review because it makes me want to finally pick it up!
Jen
Girl, I get so excited to find new products! Especially when companies come out with new flavors of something…or a new cereal! I remember searching grocery stores for the new Larabar flavors, back when they came out with the peanut butter and jelly flavor. I was so stoked to finally find it. Haha!
I’m dying to try your sweet and savory oats. I’ve never paired hummus with jam before. Can you believe I still haven’t tried your eggy oats? Or is it eggified? Whatever you call them, those must come first. They’ve gotten a lot of praise around here!
By the way, you’re a super fast reader. Another by the way, we have tons of Essie nail polish here in LA, and if you ever want to do a blogger swap with me, I will totally buy you a bottle and make it part of the package! π
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
I think that you’ll love eggified oats π I know I can’t go back to cooking them the regular way. And that’s so sweet of you to offer! I definitely might have to take you up on that π
sarah
Purdy girl in the pics!
I’m wishing you luck with the apartment hunting- I find it(and moving in general) THE most stressful thing. But when you find the perf place you’ll just know it and it will be sooo worth it.
Yes yes yes to new grocery finds<3 I just got chia seeds( nooo idea what I should do with them really?), and steel cut oats. I cooked the steelies eggily & topped them with pudding , jam & nut butter( of course), they were delicious, loved the texture(chewy/chunky). Thanks for the inspiration!
Xxx
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
The crunchiness of steelies is what I love most about them, and I’m glad you liked them π I wish I could help you with the chias, but I’m still trying to find a way to use my stash up π I like them, but not how they get stuck in my teeth. They’re good when you add them to yogurt and let them sit for a while, though.
ittybitsofbalance
You have the cutest toesies! (I mean that in the most un-creepiest way/shape/form)
How much I eat definitely effects my mood– If i eat too much I feel bloated and like I need to get some activity in. If I eat too little I usually get pretty irritable haha π
My boyfriend Will says that food controls my mindset, but hey– who can blame me!?
Tara @ the pleased plate
So glad you came across some good finds with the nail polish! Thanks for waving hello!! You do look happy!
Sara K
Food affects my mood 100%! I am one cranky biatchhh when I’m hungry- but if I’m getting in some awesome noshes and a bit of dessert, all is good in the hood (I find nutella banana crepes tend to make me in an EXTRA terrific mood…something with the potassium/chocolate combo methinks)
The Food and Love Diaries
I’m a vitamuffin fiend!!! I love love them π
Khushboo Thadani
Eating good food puts me in a good mood! I just devoured a plate of spaghetti lobster followed by Lindt 70% and I’m one happy camper! You phrased it perfectly: “eat to thrive, not just survive”
In Sweetness and In Health
Oh man, I’m definitely much happier when I’m eating the amount I should be! If I don’t eat enough I get too consumed with obsessions over food…it’s like my mind is telling me to eat.. duh Lindsay. I do get very excited when I find a new product in a store- especially if it’s something I’ve been trying to find!
Rosalie
What, or rather, how much, I eat deffffinitely affects how I feel. When I’m consistently eating enough, I’m an all around pleasant person to be with haha. The odd thing I find, though, is that if I do restrict for a few days, I’m generally an equally if not more outgoing person during those days, but end up with an emotional whiplash as soon as I start eating more (I’ve not been tempted yet to see how long the euphoria will last without intervention D: )
And I get SO excited by new things in grocery stores! When Liberte started stocking Greek yogurt, and then President’s Choice came out with theirs, I was a happy camper (then I checked the price tag, ouch. The other day I just dumped a container of plain yogurt in a paper towel lined strainer and let the whey drain out–I felt rather proud for saving 1.50$ π ) The natural foods store down the street started stocking Kombucha–I can’t decide if that’s a good or bad thing since they have them priced at 4$ a pop, on sale. I’ve yet to try it, just in case I love it haha. Oh, AND, the Farmers’ Market! Golden beets, candy-striped beets, tiny purple carrots, pinky-sized zucchini, fresh berries, organic sprouts, organic kale and mesclun greens… Saturdays are good days.
debbiecutieface
I loveee Essie nail polish!
VeggieGirl
You should have more photos of yourself! Own it, girl π Chic!
Sarah - feeedingbrainandbody
Those nail polish colors are so pretty! They have Essie in Shopper’s Drugmarts in Toronto! I have a bright pink, but I want to get a more subtle one like your, that’s awesome that you found them cause I love the brand!
I definitely more myself when I eat enough, and well I’m happy so when I eat enough I am more happy π
