Aaaaand cue Monday #happydance!
No? Awwwr come on… it’s not that bad! Monday is a chance to get back in the game, kick some butt, and get things done. Sure it usually involves work/school, but have you honestly ever thought about what life would be like without those things? School allows us to pursue our passions, work allows us to contribute… Really, it’s all about your perspective and how you look at things.
And speaking of looking at things, today feels like a good day to take a look at life as I currently know it…
. – . – . – .
Current books: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.
I picked up this book to see what all the hype was about, and so far I really can’t figure it out… I’m normally a fan of YA fantasy books, but this one just isn’t doing anything for me. The writing is mind-numbingly poor, the dialogue is just painful, and the characters aren’t exactly likeable. I’m only about a 1/4 way through so I’ll give it a few more chapters before closing it for good, but I have a feeling this is going to be one of those books I won’t end up finishing. Bugger.
Current music: Monster by Imagine Dragons. So.much.swooooooon.
[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4Y7IUByBkU&w=560&h=315″]
Current guilty pleasure: I would say curling up on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book, buuuuuut thanks to the fact that it now gets cooler and darker a whole lot earlier, I no longer have to feel guilty about staying inside and not taking advantage of gorgeous weather. So… all pleasure, no guilt 😉
Current nail colour: The brights are put away and I’ve officially switched over to fall colours.
Butter London’s Wallis.
Current drink: Silk vanilla almond milk. I’ve always been an Almond Breeze kind of girl, but after the whole carrageenan controversy, I decided to make the switch over to Silk since it doesn’t contain the potentially harmful ingredient. I’m not a huge milk drinker in general, but I’ll use it in my homemade cappuccinos and lattes from time to time.
Current food: This probably won’t surprise anyone, but… I’ve been eating ALL the kabocha!!
There’s a reason that some things tend to become an obsession around the blog world, and that reason is because they’re just freaking DELICIOUS.
Current favorite show: Last month, I admitted to not having turned on my TV in a loooooong while, and I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been on since then. I feel a little out of the loop since everyone seems to be talking about the latest fall lineup, but I honestly can’t find the motivation to sit down and commit to a show. Am I missing out?
Current wish list: A pair of burgundy skinny jeans! It took me a while to warm up to the coloured denim trend, but the more burgundy jeans I see, the more I want a pair of my own. Did I just indadvertedly admit to checking out other girls? Maaaaaybe. But admit it… you do it too.
Current needs: Some fun fall flavours for my new Keurig. After going back and forth on the idea of getting one for a couple of months, I finally came to the conclusion that I needed one back in my life (I had one a few years ago, but it broke down on me 🙁 ). I ended up grabbing one this weekend, but couldn’t find any of the seasonal flavours that I’ve been seeing around on the blog world. Canada… it’s seriously time to get with the program!!
Current triumphs: Kicking butt and taking names in school. I had my first exam last week, and I rocked the socks off that sucker.
Current bane of my existence: Squash cutting. The fact that I’m willing to risk losing my digits every time I slice one of those bad boys open is a true testament to how much I love ’em. I’ve managed to make it this far without incurring any serious injuries (knock on wood), but I have a feeling it’s just a matter of time before I… yeah… I probably shouldn’t finish that sentence.
Current celebrity crush: Again, I don’t really have one. Apparently I’m just no good at this pop culture thing.
Current indulgence: Butter London nail polish. The price tag is a little steep but the quality is undeniable. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a formula that’s easier to work with, and it lasts for a good amount of time without chipping as well.
Current slang: All, all, ALL. As in: “eat ALL the squash!” “do ALL the things!” “drink ALL the coffee…”
Current blessing: ALL the things 😉
Current outfit: Boots, skinnies, and oversized sweaters; aka: my favourite style of all time.
Current excitement: The fact that, at this time next week, I’ll be stuffing myself with turkey, roasted potatoes, cranberry sauce, and all the pumpkin flavoured desserts. Canadian Thanksgiving is happening next Monday, and I can.not.wait. I’ll be in charge of the dessert, so I’m going to have to start doing some serious brainstorming and experimenting this week. Any volunteers for the position of taste tester?
Current mood: Peaceful and reflective. Fall tends to have that effect on me.
Current link: Bloglovin.com. Monday means my reader is exploding with posts. Time to catch up.
. – . – . – .
Happy, happy Monday, friends! Kick some a** 😀
Coloured denim: yay or nay?
If you have a Keurig, what’s your favourite K-cup flavour?
What are you currently (in general)…
1) … reading?
2) … doing?
3) … eating/drinking?
Natalie @ Lift,Sleep, Eat
I quite like coloured denim but it depends on the style of the pants normally – some can look great…others…not so much ahah!
Bet all the food for Canadian Thanksgiving is going to be amazing!!! Being a Brit we don’t have anything like that, personally I think I should create a day slap bang in the middle of Canadian/U.S. Thanksgiving for me to celebrate and eat ALL the Thanksgiving themed food hehe.
I was eating loads of squash too, until my store sold out of all the kabocha :(..next time they get some in I’m stock piling!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
I noticed that burgundy in general seems to be a big thing lately! As for the coloured denim trend…I do own a pair of purple skinnies that I love :-p And haven’t worn in a while…think I’ll have to break those out tomorrow.
And that’s disappointing about the book! Poor writing is usually a deal breaker for me too, but if something is popular enough I’ll suffer through it to see what the fuss is about (which I did with 50 Shades of Grey. Which remained terrible).
And I’m going to be so jealous of the Thanksgiving celebrations next weekend! By some awkward coincidence, both mine and Eric’s family Thanksgivings are being delayed a week (my parents and aunt/uncles are on their cruise, and Eric’s mom is away) so next weekend is going to be same old, same old around here. Sadness.
As for books, I picked up Game of Thrones again. Yupppp….doing it again.
I’ve gotten so lazy with my squashes. Now I just quarter them, scoop the innards out, drizzle some oil and add some seasonings and through them in the oven. Still delicious…and thinking that I need some for my lunch today. Which I should get on because I’m hungry…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I never read 50 Shades, but that’s what the Twilight series was for me. Good grief. And at least you’ll still be able to enjoy the long weekend and make everyone else jealous the following week 🙂 As for GoT… that series to you is what Name of the Wind is to me… I keep going back to it 😛
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
Eating all of the kabocha 🙂 my boyfriend was in town this weekend so I made sure to get him to cut up to kabocha for me so I could roast them. They are a pain in the behind to cut up. I love that fall nail color, I need to go get some fun fall colors.
Lauren
I love your outfit. It’s totally my favorite style, too. ALL the layers 😉
I’ve always been a fan of colored denim but have a hard time pulling it off myself. I really love the olive green ones, though.
I’m not a huge fan of the Pumpkin Spice K-Cups. They’re a bit too “spicy” in all the wrong ways for me. As far as flavored: Coconut Mocha. As far as not flavored: Dunkin’ Dark, Jet Fuel, or Donut Shop (any of their kcups are delish!).
Heather Murphy
I love colored denim, and just picked up a pair of crimson colored ones that have zippers at the bottom.. I have been wearing them ALL the time! 🙂 Had a Keurig, and I loved it because my husband and I like different types of coffee, but it broke after only a few months, so now we have been using the good ole’ coffee pot. I get flavored creamer. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
See, I thought my old Keurig broke as well, but my parents took it off my hands and apparently got it to work 😯 I guess it just didn’t like me.
emi
love so many things in this post! squash cutting is the worst but so worth it! yay for cozy fall.. xo
[email protected].
Love that nail polish colour!!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
That nail color is AMAZING…so, SO perfect for Fall!
Heather
Great list as always!:) So I figured out two things: 1. You have great taste in nail polish and 2. We share a love for the same outfit and Kobocha;)
Oh and by the way, I love staying inside at night too. If you get a chance, check out the show Scandal on Netflix to catch up on the seasons. It is seriously addicting!
Courtney @ Don't Blink. Just Run.
I love ALL. We say it at least once a day. One our cats likes to attack every toy in sight. She is a mighty huntress and we will usually say she’s “killing ALL THE THINGS”.
I’m not a big fan of the coloured denim. I have a Keurig, but don’t use it (it’s for when our best friends stay with us). I’m currently reading: your blog (lame joke). I’m at work right now, reading your blog. I’m drinking some water and about to nosh on an awesome Macintosh apple. Yay!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I would like to sign up for the taste tester position please. Where can I find an application?
I do love fall for much the same reasons as you, curling up with a good book in front of a fireplace. I also am digging the colored skinny jeans although I have yet to buy a pair. I imagine they would look great with my fall boots and then I can gladly stomp on crunch leaves purely for fun. The sound effects aren’t bad either.
I’m currently reading an old classic: Cujo by Stephen King. Of course, I picked it up for the first time in years last night and the book starts with monsters coming out of a little boys closet in the middle of the night. Since I slept alone last night, you can bet I closed my closet doors tight!
Lindsay @ Lindsay Weighs In
I LOVE colored denim! For the longest time, I thought I couldn’t wear it because I was worried it would draw attention to my fat legs. No way, jose! Love 🙂 I love my Keurig. I can’t make a cup of coffee correctly to save my life (either too much/not enough coffee or water every.single.time.) The Keurig takes the guess work out of it for me!
Amy @ The Little Honey Bee
Yay yay yay to color denim! I am all about the pastels in the summer but in the fall I have gray, army green and burgundy/maroon. Definitely a great investment and perfect with boots and an oversized sweater 🙂 I cannot believe Thanksgiving is sooo soon! Eek getting excited too
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Army green and gray sound like great colours too! Where did you pick yours up from?
Amy @ The Little Honey Bee
They are all different brands. My army green are TopShop, burgundy are Fidelty and gray are Paige. Let me know which ones you buy!
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
All women check out other women. Anyone who says thy don’t is lying.
I love colored denim and burgundy is perfect for fall.
I can’t believe it’s already Thanksgiving in Canada! That’s just crazy. And awesome.
Happy Monday! You’ve got me all excited to get things done!! 🙂
Kat
Im going to be honest with you, I LOVED the TMI series (which is still going might I add, the final book comes out next year!) Although the 3rd book is by far my favorite. Im one of those simple kind of readers at times though. Sometimes I just need something angsty and not so well written to take me far far away, but other times I need to dive into something like Angela’s Ashes (great book) which has me so gut wretched and deep in thought.
And that nail color is FABULOUS my friend, although I really am not a fan of gold. I do think it’s growing on me as a nail color though! Right now Im still crushing on my Revlon silver polish. I’ve been combining it with EVERYTHING as of late!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
I just recently started getting into the colored skinnies too, but now I LOVE them! I think the pop of color is so fun. I think I saw some burgandy ones at Old Navy recently!
I’m also all about the skinny jeans, boots, and big sweaters lately. One of the many reasons I adore fall so much!
And yes, cutting squash…totally the bane of my existence too. Those suckers are scary sometimes! 😉
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
I soooo need to get both of those Keurig flavors! Right now I have toasted coconut hazelnut; which is pretty darn great. LOVE your nail color. I’ve been sticking with the black and I really like it because it pretty much looks good with everything I own. I roast my kabocha for about 10 or so minutes and then peel the skin and cut it. It’s much easier because it’s a lot softer.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Roasting it with the skin before peeling is kind of a brilliant idea — I need to try that. And have you ever tried the Chocolate Glazed Donut k-cups? I’ve never had them, but they sound amazing.
Hollie
I have a bunch of pairs of jeans…but I don’t wear them ever. I should really wear more of my jeans because it seems like I wasted my money buying them.
I am loving the gold nails. They are absolutely gorgeous.
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green
YAY to colour denim! I loveee the colours and they are perfect for fall. I bought a pair of burgandy pants from Zara and I adore them! I love to style them with some boots and big wool sweater.
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
I’m sorry to hear about your book! Usually poor writing is a complete deal breaker for me–I usually don’t get past the first chapter or two of those books. And yes, you’re totally missing out in the TV world. You should start watching Scandal. Or White Collar (which premieres on October 17th in the US; not sure about Canada). Or at the very least, Modern Family. All fantastic shows!
Melissa
As a fellow Keurig owner, one of my all-time favorite flavors is also a seasonal flavor – Golden French Toast! It is so yummy. Plus, I also like Chocolate Glazed Donut k-cup which is a year-round flavor. Also, I have to agree with you on the kabocha squash, it’s the best! I recommend other winter squash varieties, too (i.e. delicata, buttercup, carnival, etc). They all taste relatively similar to kabocha, but a little different and can be cooked and eaten with skins on.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Chocolate Glaze Donut?! 😯 Ooookay, I’ve never seen that one around here, but I just checked out some online stores and I’m pretty sure I’ll be ordering a pack. Sounds kind of epic.
Carly @ Snack Therapy
I don’t own any colored denim, but I was thisclose to buying a pair of red skinnies in Italy! I’ll bet you rock those burgundy jeans… I’d totally check you out ;). And yes, as a major TV junkie, I think you’re definitely missing out.
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
I love that you love Mondays! I really need for that to rub off a bit on me because I’m not a fan of Mondays at all. Sigh!
Congrats on rocking your exam! That’s always such a great feeling. Love the nail color. And yes, cutting squash is definitely not an easy task. I always enlist my husband to help me with that one. There’s got to be an easier way!!!
What are you currently…
1) … reading? A self help book, which I’ll be sharing a bit about tomorrow. I’m almost done with it, so next I’ll be reading Under the Dome.
2) … doing? Reading all my favorite blogs!
3) … eating/drinking? Water at the moment, but in the next few minutes, I’m grabbing my smoothie out of the fridge.
Alex @ Kenzie Life
Colored denim is awesome! I have a few pairs of colored skinny jeans (dark purple and coral). I think they’re fun 🙂 I bought a Keurig Vue a few months ago and it is one of my favorite things. My old Keurig broke spontaneously but this one is amazing. I can adjust the temperature and strength and I love that. Also, fall fashion is my favorite fashion of the year! And last but not least, Butter London has amazing colors, though I’ve only tried their makeup not nail polish. I need to remedy that…
Ang @ Nutty for Life
Love the nail color. My current songs are Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood and Tiptoe by Imagine Dragons. I have looked up and down, right and left for kabocha squash and it’s just nowhere to be found for me. Le sigh.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Have you tried butternut? That’s a good substitute for kabocha if you can’t find it.
Parita @ myinnershakti
That’s a beautiful nail polish color! I like how it sparkles without being over the top. And currently, we’ve been eating a lot of salads. It’s so hot in Miami, and the heat deters me from turning on the oven!
Sophie @ life's philosophie
I love that nail polish! So different but I could see it matching everything! Currently I’ve been knitting! A bit old lady like but it really relaxes me and eventually (or I guess hopefully) I’ll have a beautiful scarf to wear! Oh and I’ve been pretty obsessively watching Revenge. I needed a new guilty pleasure!
Jo @ Living Mint Green
We used to have a Keurig but once the appeal (and cost) of buying k-cups wore off, we put it in our rental suite and went back to using our regular pot.
I love burgandy pants too! I found some cute ones at Old Navy yesterday that I can wear for work/play. I really want a pair of lululemons wunder unders in that color, too.
You’re not missing out on tv, but if you WERE to commit to a series, I’d say go back and watch Breaking Bad on netflix. Oh, and Orange is the new black!!
Ksenija @ Health Ninja
Congrats on the exam, I was pretty sure that you would rock it – it’s always like that with things we are passionate about. It’s just so much easier to get them into your head 😉 (now please, anyone let me write a master thesis on blogging :p ) And girl, I have to say, I love your fall style – skinny jeans or leggings with oversize sweaters are just the bomb (especially combined with a leather jacket – my fave). And the nail polish is awesome too.
Btw. – I’ve been searching for a good fantasy series to get into too and I tried 2 or 3 (one of them was city of bones), but didn’t finish a single one. Good thing I do have an e-book library and didn’t need to purchase the books.
Dione
I am reading the second book in Cassie Clare’s other series (The Infernal Devices – The Clockwork Prince), and I am greatly enjoying it. I haven’t read the Mortal Instruments yet, though I do have a box set of the first 4 books. I have heard many people say they prefer the Infernal Devices – takes place in Victorian London, kind of steampunk, but still has the whole Shadowhunter storyline going on.
And I’m a complete TV junkie, so I can recommend ALL kinds of things to you if you really want. If you have Netflix for movies, I highly recommend watching some series on there. They actually just put up the first two seasons of my favorite show “Once Upon a Time” which you may like since you are into fantasy, and I’m on season 4 of Vampire Diaries and halfway through Orange is the New Black. Yep, I’m not ashamed to say I watch too much TV.
Please forgive any typos or grammatical errors, I’m sitting here in the lab at work at the very end of my 7th night shift and my brain is not working 100% haha.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
7th night shift in a row? Oh girl… HUGE kudos to you! I’m pretty sure that I would cease to function by the 2nd night. And I’ve actually been thinking about getting Netflix. I know, I know… I’m completely late to the party, but I’m hopeless when it comes to figuring out the latest technology trends…
Miss Polkadot
My current fashion wish list would rather include coloured running tights. Ever since seeing Amy’s burgundy ones I’ve been so bored of the same old black, black and black that we get to choose from over here. But I do actually have some not quite burgundy but at least ruby coloured jeggings.
Peaceful and reflective – I like your current mood. I’d agree that it’s a total fall mood because summer is usually all go-go-go while the colder months mean more inside time – as you mentioned – and deeper thoughts.
Not currently but I think I’ll finally start The Book Thief today after I had a look at several other books I picked up and wasn’t that fascinated by them.
Just to possibly help in saving your fingers – if your squash cutting problem is related to it slipping around, that is: did you try the trick of placing a towel under the cutting board yet? I’ve been using it for years and I swear it has made cutting squash open a lot easier. Though I don’t peel mine so maybe that’s even trickier?
Also, that nail polish is awesome. I’m still sticking with the bright colour and may or may not continue all throughout fall – and possibly winter, too.
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food
I just bought my first pair of colored denim recently and I went with olive green. I love them! I still haven’t found any kabocha squash near me, but I’m gonna keep looking!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oooo olive green is another awesome colour for fall! And have you tried butternut? That’s another really great squash if you can’t find kabocha.
Lucie
I’ll be over to taste!! Oh how MUCH I wished doing this right now. And then join in on the festivities, cause clearly, Switzerland doesn’t have Thanksgiving nor Halloween. Gah.
And I am SOOOO with you on the outfit of skinny jeans, boots and XL sweaters! Just bought the whole outfit (several to be honest) in Spain and I am thrilled that the temperatures allow to wear it now. Yeah!
Jessie
I wanna fly to you next week that way I can enjoy some of that delicious Thanksgiving food! Oh & afterwards, I’m going to raid your nail polish colors and we can paint our nails. Seriously, you always have the cutest colors!!
Sarah @pickyrunner
Curling up with hot chocolate. My fave part about Sunday mornings. I really do like Mondays. I have no idea. My alarm comes too early and I don’t get home until way past my bedtime but there’s something about that fresh start. Your nail Polish is always so perfect! Maybe you should become a manicurist 😉
Shashi @ http://runninsrilankan.com
“eat All the squash” ok I will give you that one – but “drink All the coffee” nope- no way!
So bummed to hear you are not digging the City of Bones 🙁 I am about 3/4 thru it and, while I don’t love or even relate with any of the characters – I do like it overall. Have you read “Heaven is for real” ? After reading that, and then reading City of Bones, just got me wondering bout the “battles” around…
So with you on squash cutting – am on the hunt for a mini chainsaw!
Yay for colored denim – I got me a purplish one last year and love it! 🙂
Right now am eating a PB & Chocolate muffin and drinking a cuppa coffee and pondering how to change a recent “challenge” that came my way into a triumph…might involve me looking for another job soon…but, all things happen for a reason – most times, the reason is good 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I have read Heaven is for Real and really enjoyed it — maybe I’ll warm up to CoB too, who knows. And I have to say that I absolutely love your perspective on whatever your challenge is. Most times, things like that end up opening the door to bigger and better things… but if you ever need anyone to chat to, don’t hesitate to toss an e-mail my way! <3
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy
I really love that nail color. I should really work on expanding my polish collection. After all I’m licensed and am able to buy OPI for $4.99 a the supply store. After my race I think I need to treat my feet and fingers for putting them through such torcher.
Christina
I have an obsession with saying ALL, too! I hope I’m not annoying anyone, because I don’t think it’s stopping any time soon…
Lisa
Aw, major bummer about the book. I hate when that happens.
Oh my gosh, I totally forgot Thanksgiving is already next week!! Thanks for the reminder haha. I can’t believe I forgot about it.
Ohh, I’m excited for your keurig! I kind of want one for muself
And I’m right with you on all the squash cutting.
It’s annoying – but oh so worth it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually completely forgot about it as well — my mom was the one who reminded me. And I have to say that the Keurig, along with a milk frother, is kind of epic. As nice as it is to visit Bux daily, I definitely missed having one.
Lisa
I think I may have been tempted now into buying one! I’ve been looking for a good one, since my one I bought from Starbucks sucked (it broke in about two month)…keurig may be the winner!
MIZ
I LOVE ME SOME FALL LINE UP!!!
🙂
but thats me.
I love me some tv at night to unwind.
