Well, hi there! Happy Wednesday to ya! π
I’m currently sitting here in my favourite booth in ‘Bux with an empty grande cup beside me, meaning that I’m: a) hyper, and b) most likely going to have to pee soon. Sorry if that’s a little TMI, but… see ‘A’.
So heyyyyy! It’s June. And June is kicking my butt so far. Remember how I said I was stoked about the new month starting on a Monday? I take that back. A new month starting on a Monday has given me an extended case of The Mondays, which I can only hope won’t last for the next 27 days. Actually, that’s not even entirely true… but I needed some kind of intro for this Currently post, and that’s the first place my mind went.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at life as I currently know it… in June.
Current book: Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch. After reading (and loving) The Lies of Locke Lamora, of course I had to go on and read the next book in the series. Loving this one just as much… especially because it legit makes me laugh out loud. The banter. The wit. The humour. Love, love, love.
Current music: Retribution by Blue Stahli. In fact, I’m listening to it a we speak. Or as I write. Whatever.
[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkgBMHB3zN8&w=640&h=427″]
Current [non]-guilty pleasure: Video gaming. 7 months. I went 7 months without playing video games (aside from FarmVille, which doesn’t count), which is a freaking record for me. Video games have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, but I figured it was time to “grow up” and focus all my efforts on more productive things like work and what have you. Worst.idea.ever.
Current nail colour: NONE. Ugh. I broke two gorgeously long nails the other day, and I’m very much still pouting about it.
Current drink: Coffee. Hot coffee, more specifically. I know it probably makes more sense to stick to cold drinks when the temperature starts to go up, but to be completely honest… I’m not the biggest fan of iced coffee. I like my coffee hot. And I like it even better when it cools down to room temperature.
Current food: These cookie dough protein granola bars. I’ve made three batches of these babies since posting the recipe a couple of weeks ago (with the latest batch being yesterday morning at 5 AM), so I think it’s safe to say that I’ve been eating a lot of them.
Current obsession: My chocolate fudge bites. I know, I know. I’m not trying to toot my own horn on the recipe front, but you asked about obsessions, so I answered. Like the bars above (^^), I’m on something like batch #4 with these guys as well. It might be time to start snacking on other things soon. Maybe.
Current wish: More stable sleep. Or maybe just more sleep in general. I either sleep like a rock because I’m exhausted, or I toss and turn all night because I have too much on my mind. The hot nights don’t help much either.
Current need: To stop slouching. I don’t really have the best posture, which is made worse by the fact that I spend a decent amount of time sitting. I keep Post-Its around my computer to remind me to sit up straight, but I still catch myself slouching more often than not. Work in progress.
Current bane of my existence: Seasonal allergies. All things blooming + crazy winds + open windows = one miserably congested Amanda. Go away, Spring. You drunk.
Current indulgence: Teddy Grahams! Nothing like indulging in a childhood favourite to take you back to the good old days. Now excuse me while I bust out the My Little Ponies and My Littlest Pet Shop. Except I have no idea what happened to my old ones, and the new ones kind of creep me out. What’s with the huge eyes and huge heads?!
Current procrastination: Getting a tan. Or creating a tan, I should say, since mine usually comes from a bottle as opposed to the sun. I keep meaning to un-pastify myself, but yeah… it’s still on the to-do list.
Current confession: I accidentally saw a preview for a horror movie the other day, and I couldn’t sleep [well] for two days after that. Feel free to point and laugh. I’m a wimp and I know it.
Current blessing: Good friends on bad days.
Current excitement: Feeling sore… which I realize sounds a little twisted, but I’m talking about the dull muscle ache that comes after a little bit of strength training. I’ve been neglecting strength training for longer than I care to admit, and it feels awesome to slowly be getting back into it… DOMS and all
Current mood: Twitchy. Is that a mood? Because that’s how I’m feeling… and I think that’s a good sign that I’ve been sitting for too long and it might be time to hit up the gym in a little while here.

My current obsession is PB&J with banana Paninis. I love the melted PB gooey goodness that comes out into my mouth. The bane of my existence is the move that is slowly happening for me this week. I am excited, but it’s a lot of work! The period emoji needs to happen! Let’s get a kickstarter for that!
Heather@hungryforbalance
My current favorite food is frozen bananas- all day, every day!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I know! Have you ever tried dipping them in nut butter or chocolate prior to freezing? Takes things to a whole new level…
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
I miss gaming. I think my XBOX360 is pooched, I’ve tried it on two different TVs and I can’t get volume π I think I may try to invest in a Playstation4 eventually.
And as for the period emoji thing – NUMBER 2. Yup.
Ann
When I’m sitting for a long period of time (studying or whatever) I set my alarm every hour and get up for a few minutes, walk a bit through the room, stretch my back and hamstrings…it helps a lot! I also have to go to the bathroom way too often (TMI anyone? π ) so that makes me get up frequently too!
Current food: strawberries and asparagus! Not necessarily paired, but since both are in season, I like to eat as much as possible! Oh, and white potatoes.
lindsay
you don’t even wanna know what my post it notes are for! haha. i’m old, i lose my brain cells fast. and ya, i’m not an iced coffee fan either. i just can’t… nope.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Okay, well now I’m just curious…
Natasha
Food: Currently on a juice cleanse for the next couple days, but I’m really craving some pastries!
Obsession: Lilly Pulitzer. It’s getting out of hand, really.
Bane of my existence: People who take too long to order at the drive-thru.
Confession:
Excitement: I’m going out to one of my favorite restaurants on Saturday! Can’t wait π
Shannon
I forgot all about teddy Grahams! I used to love them!
Brittany
I’m a hot coffee year round kind of girl, even when it’s 90 degrees out. Last weekend after a hot and sweaty run, I wanted a cup of coffee. I was about to go to Starbucks, but decided to branch out and went to a local spot instead. The place was cute, and the barista was friendly, but she made me an iced Americano. I walked in asking for drip coffee (hot), she didn’t have any and suggested a French press (also hot) or an Americano and I happily chose an Americano, thinking I didn’t need to specify anymore.
She handed my the iced beverage, and I didn’t have the heart or soul to ask her to remake it (plus wasting coffee is a sin) so I drank it. The espresso was fantastic, but I should have gone to Starbucks. Womp womp. My story for the day. HA.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Bux just has good coffee, and it helps that you always know what you’re getting. I’ve dabbled in different local shops around here as well, but honestly? Some of them have had the -worst- coffee that I’ve ever tasted π
Casey @ Casey the College Celiac
Food: all the homemade granola! The obsession is real….
Obsession: Netflix!
Bane of existence: summer heat when working out.
Confession: I slept 11 years last night and it was glorious!
Excitement: that it’s summer!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m going to assume that by “years” you meant “hours” π And I’m so totally jealous. I average around 6 a night, and sometimes it’s just not enough!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
Everything looks delcious here and you can’t go wrong with coffee. π I struggle with my posture too and if you can do it try mixing in a little work at your computer while standing at a counter, etc. It can help break up all the sitting. It has helped me a bit.
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
I drink hot coffee all year round. Iced coffee just doesn’t do the trick.
Food…I can’t get enough of trout right now. The fish in the PNW is just so fresh.
Obsession…hiking. Even the smaller summits out here in Seattle feel like mountains to my Midwestern legs.
Bane of existence…not having a dresser set up in my new apartment. Living out of suitcases and a few shelves leads to messiness.
Confession…I’m way too excited for National Donut Day.
Excitement….marathon training has begun!
Miss Polkadot
Fellow guilty sloucher here. It’s a terrible posture and I need to change that. Actually,I want to sit less because it feels really unproductive even when I’m working on something on my laptop. I want a standing desk, that’s it.
By the way: you might not be all that wrong with your coffee. People in hot countries are drinking hot beverages to cool down after all, too. Less work for the body.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I heard that about the hot drinks in hot weather, and while I’m pretty sure it works in the long run, trying to get through that initial “oh-my-god I’m sweating bullets” phase is a little tricky. And if I had my way, I’d have a treadmill desk. My brain is way more productive when I’m moving.
Rachel
1) β¦ food – I just had a steak salad and a mini 3 Musketeers. Perfect lunch!
2) β¦ obsession – lipstick. I’m not sure where this came from because I’m definitely a chapstick/lipgloss girl, but suddenly I’m loving bright pink lipstck
3) β¦ bane of existence – my work laptop. It literally nearly caught fire the other day and it’s barely working now. I can’t wait till my new one comes.
4) β¦ confession – I haven’t been to the gym in longer than I care to admit, and not even my October wedding is motivating me to go. Someone please help.
5) β¦ excitement – going to Florida next weekend for my grandmother’s 90th birthday and getting to spend time with her, my parents, my brothers, and my fiance. It’s going to be so fun π
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape
I am with you on the horror films. I watched scream when I was a teenager, my first horror film, and it gave me nightmares for weeks! I used to check outside the window before I went to bed just to make sure I was safe! needless to say I haven’t watched a horror since!
I too will need a Tan from a bottle! What do you tend to use?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I like the colour that St.Tropez gives me. I use their tanning mousses if I need some colour in a hurry, and then just use the gradual tanning moisturizers to keep things topped off.
Kris @ Canadian Girl Runs.
Confession: Scary movie previews have done the same to me. I’m like, “What would ever happen if I saw the entire movie?!”
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Sometimes I honestly feel like watching the movie would be easier because then at least you have a sense of closure. I think the previews are cut to make things seem even freakier.
Hayley @ Full of Life
Those emojis bahahah so accurate. I have horrible seasonal allergies too – especially at night when going to sleep which is so annoying. I love that you’re into video games and proud of it. Danny definitely is a fan but I have never been too keen on them…probably because my parents didn’t allow me to have them growing up. I do remember loving Donkey Kong and Mario Party at my friend’s house π
Christine@ Apple of My Eye
LOL-ing at that period BuzzFeed article. The people are there are so creative, yet totally manage to hit the nail on the head each and every time hahah. And GIRL. I am not judging you at all for your scary movie preview confession. I am the exact same way and it kills me because I’m usually the last one up in a big and scary house and I sweeeeaaarrrr something is waiting for me down our long hallway. A friend of mine just briefly recounted a scary movie to me and I made the stupid mistake of reading more about it online. That was 2 months ago and I still get freaked out when I’m upstairs alone π―
Jessie @ Just Jessie
I’m the same with scary movies! And when I get “tricked” into watching a preview, I’m so screwed. That happened to me at the movie theater a few weeks ago haha. And as soon as I read the “stop slouching” post, I snapped back up in my chair. I slouch so much at work!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π Aaaaaand I just caught myself slouching after reading your comment. Whoops.
Sky @ Blonde Freedom
I love iced coffee during the summers, but if I’m at home we always have it hot. And yessss to Teddy Grahams. I had some a few months ago on a whim and loved them! June is my birthday month so I’m just excited it’s finally here!
Hollie
I drink hot coffee all year long. I really enjoy hot coffee more than cold.
I have been reading a lot of interesting books lately as well. Must be this time of year.
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
Im so glad I’m not the only one who gets upset when I break a nail, lol!
It’s so silly but they look so nice when they’re all the same length. π
And yes to un-pastifying! I get my tan from a bottle too and I’ve been so lazy. But we’re actually getting some warm weather now so I might have to do it soon!
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
I saw an Insidious commercial the other day and it creeped me out alot. I can feel your pain there.
Current food obsession – s’mores. So good.
Current excitement – going to Utah for the Utah Valley Marathon in a week! Woohoo!
Jess
I totally relate on the whole iced-coffee debate. It could be 90 degrees, but I’ll still be sweating as I sip my hot coffee. Post-It notes to improve your posture is a great idea I might steal for my own bad slouching habit. I feel you with the DOMS. I just got back from a vacation, and getting back to the gym is making my muscles sorer than usual. And Teddy Grahams! Ah, now I want some, especially the chocolate chip. I think I had a childhood birthday cake made out of Teddy Grahams once.
Current food obsession might be salmon and sweet potatoes, but I think that’s just my normal food obsession. Current excitement: starting a new summertime job! Although getting used to a new routine is a little difficult, I’m so happy to be doing something I love.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
A Teddy Grahams cake?! π― I die. And that’s so awesome about the job, Jess! What is it?
AnneL
Love your blog and made the chocolate chip dough cookie bars, all I can say is yum!
current food: chocolate oatmeal muffins
current obsession: keeping my nails nice, which doesn’t work with gardening!
current bane of existence: little pesky black flies
current confession: hate shaving legs
current excitement: my dad’s 80th birthday party!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thanks so much, Anne! And omigosh — 80th?! That’s freaking awesome! Happy birthday to your dad!!
Shashi at RunninSrilankan
Fortunately, am not prone to allergies, but my sis is – she gets them so bad – she’s like a blubbering, dripping, mess every spring – even with meds! What I am prone to is wimping out at horror movies too! Usually, I just bury my head in cushions – but a few years ago when we went to Comic Con, they had this extended preview of some horror movie and I tried covering my eyes – but it was so loud and you know what – it’s the darn music that works so well at making me super scared! I say we toast being in “wimpdom” with chocolate! Yeah!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You know what’s sad? I think I used to be way braver when I was younger. I remember being able to watch horror movies and sleep regularly back in the day, but now? Nooooope. Maybe it has something to do with living alone. Or maybe I’m just getting more wimpy with age… which is plausible considering I can’t even do roller coasters anymore. Eep.
Sarah @ Sarah's on the Run
Can’t wait to try the fudge bites!
1) β¦ food: chicken sausage! never had it until this week. so good!
2) β¦ obsession: arctice zero ice cream + chickpea cookie dough dip + walden farms calorie free chocolate syrup. amazing.
3) β¦ bane of existence: cleaning my house. ugh.
4) β¦ confession: i hate cleaning. ha.
5) β¦ excitement: girls weekend coming up!
Lesley
I don’t watch horror movies for that reason. My parents wouldn’t let me see movies in the theater with them because they knew I wouldn’t sleep, but then my mom couldn’t sleep after seeing Aliens 2 in the theater.
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
My life long seasonal allergies are just…gone. Nothing. Not a sniffle. No medication. It’s the most wonderful feeling ever. Thank you vegetarian diet. I am fascinated and finally able to enjoy spring. It’s amazing what food can really do for/to the body
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves
Oh my gosh your current link is hysterical! Mostly because my best friends would relate to it very well. Also, I think I HAVE to make your granola bars now. I’m in need of a snack to bring to work!
Current food: Pirate’s Booty
Curent obsession: listening to the radio in the carβ it’s my me time
Current bane of existence: allergies too! I’m getting rashes in my armpit, which is always so great.
Current confession: I need to throw out some oranges on our counter that are rotting.
Current excitement: Seeing my friend from college on Friday!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oooo da Booty. That reminds me of those cheese puff things that I got at Blend and devoured basically in one sitting. Oops. And I have a feeling you’ll love those bars! Soooo doughy and chocolatey. I kind of just finished devouring one with my coffee π
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
Oh yeah, my allergies are terrible this year! We had a lot of rain the past few days, so that’s definitely helped with the pollen, so at the moment, they’re not so bad, but I’m sure they’ll get worse again.
My favorite current food is protein shakes (I have them every morning for breakfast) and my current excitement is seeing my cousin and her new baby this weekend (it’ll be my first time meeting him!).
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I really wish we’d get some rain! They’ve been saying thunderstorms for at least a week now, but it has yet to do any serious raining. Ugh. I wish it would because I LOVE THEM.
Juli@1000lovelythings
No shame tooting your own horn on the recipe front. It’s well deserved!
LOL on those Period emojis. I almost spit a little iced coffee on #4 π
Cassie @ Almost Getting it Together
I totally am a little sore from starting strength training again! But I too love that feeling – I know progress is already being made π
Gretchen | Gretchruns
β¦ food. – I made a “burrito” bowl for lunch today- quinoa, black beans, guac, greek yogurt, cheese and salsa!
β¦ obsession. – I have a half on Sunday that I’ve been obsessing over, so I guess that!
β¦ confession. – can totally relate with yours..I’m a complete wimp when horror movies are concerned! I finally watched the sixth sense for the first time ever the other day and THAT gave me nightmares.
… excitement. – wedding planning! We’re doing a “just the two of us” ceremony in Belize and I couldn’t be more excited! The only “planning” needed is picking a date, and deciding between horseback riding in the jungle or a waterfall rappelling trip.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
A few things: your lunch is my current obsession — GOOD LUCK ON YOUR HALF!! — The Sixth Sense was actually one of my favourite movies back in the day, which means I was apparently less of a wimp back then than I am now, and — your wedding sounds absolutely perfect. I’m a huge fan of those smaller, more intimate ceremonies.
tiff @ love, sweat, & beers
Yes, hot coffee for me too! I don’t care how hot it is. And I’m 100% with you on the current need too. I was reading your post and immediately noticed how gross and hunched over I was sitting. Ugh!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
Oh my gosh those emojis are hysterical!! I am also working on my posture and getting more sleep. Two things that should be simple but never are!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right?! How are the most basic things in life some of the most complicated?!
Suzy
Ha ha! I love that you have post-it notes telling you to stop slouching! You’re hilar. Yes, allergies here too. It’s the itchy eyes that absolutely kill me. I want to gauge them out!!!
Katie @ running4cupcakes
I am the same way with anything scary – I hate when I accidentally see a commercial for a movie or TV show! Glad I’m not the only one. . . π
Lana
Try 4-7-8 breathing before bed… And another thing that helps when I can’t sleep is going to a different room… Which in my current apartment is the living room couch.. π
Although not sure if the above help with trauma due to horror movie trailers… I haven’t had an incident in a while… I close my eyes, ears and sing something loudly when something scary is on :p
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thanks for the tips, Lana. I’ve done the 4-7-8 thing in the past and it did help. i’ve just gotta get better at doing it more regularly.
Jamie
I’m with you. I really need to start focusing on getting some better rest. I’ve fallen into a weird pattern of being so tired, and just powering through. Perhaps tonight I’ll promise myself to go to bed early, no laptop, no phone, and really just rest and relax. I keep waking up at night as well – probably something with stressβ¦ Thankfully no seasonal allergies for this girl! I don’t know how y’all are getting through it. My current food is date balls – I added sea salt to my last batch and it’s the perfect combination of salty and sweet. Can’t get enough. Have a great Wednesday!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The no laptop/phone thing before bed definitely helps a lot — the light from the screen can mess with your circadian rhythm and throw you off. I’ve made my bedroom a no laptop/iPad zone, and it definitely made a difference in my sleep. Reading before bed knocks me out more than anything else.
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
The fudge bites and cookie dough bars look beyond delicious so I totally take your word on that! I really have to do iced coffee in the summer even though I don’t think it tastes as good. Adam will happily down 3 hot coffees on a 90 degree day though. And video games! I was addicted as a kid but haven’t played any in years.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I will admit that I prefer drinking my coffee with AC and/or a fan in my face. There are definitely times where I can’t do the hot coffee thing, although I hear that drinking hot drinks is actually supposed to cool you down in the long run?
