Happy Wednesday, friendly faces! And happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians! π
It’s only been a couple of days since I last talked to you, but it seriously feels like for.ev.er. I know, I know — I’ve been slacking with the posting lately — but between work getting busier and the summer vacation mentality setting in, it’s just been a little harder to get those posts up. I don’t ever want blogging to feel like a chore, so when it starts heading that way, I prefer to just take a step back for a couple of days and regroup. You understand, right? I knew you would.
But things should be back to normal by next week. I’ve got my trip to Vegas coming up (leaving in a few hours — WOO!), and then I’m all yours. Until then, we’ve got to keep up traditions, and since it’s the beginning of a new month and all, it’s time to take a look at life as I currently know it…
Current book: I just finished reading The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch, which was the last book in the Gentlemen Bastard series. It wasn’t my favourite of the three books and I wasn’t overly crazy about the ending, but it was still an enjoyable (albeit long) read. Now I’m on to The Goldfinch By Donna Tartt after reading so many rave reviews about it, but I’m not far enough to say much about it just yet.
Current music: Nepal by USS.

Current [non]-guilty pleasure: Taking a little extra time off from blogging. It wasn’t really something I planned on, but I was very much feeling a little burnout coming on, so I figured it was a good idea to nip it in the bud before it got bad and take a little step back. Everyone deserves a little summer vacation, right? Right.
Current nail colour: I may have to get rid of this question one of these days because I feel like it’s almost always the same answer, which is: nada. I just haven’t felt like dealing with the chips.
Current drink: Kombucha. I go through phases with this stuff, but I’m very much loving it right now.
Current food: ALL the watermelon… as is evidenced by all the melon bellies I’ve been suffering from lately π Worth it.
Current obsession: Ketchup on ALL the things. Seriously. As long as it’s not a sweet dish, there’s a good chance I’m putting ketchup on it. Best.condiment.ever, hands down.
Current wish: That this inexplicable feel-good feeling I’ve got going on decides to take up permanent residence in my life. I can’t explain why I’ve been feeling so good lately, but I’m definitely not complaining.
Current need: More time! Or at least better time management. Maybe it’s the scatterbrained-ness that’s still clinging to me from last week, but I can’t seem to get my head on straight and get ‘er done. I blame summer vacation mode.
Current bane of my existence: Burning things to smithereens. This was honey and nut butter at one point. And then it was just a pain in the butt to clean…
Current indulgence: Video games. I didn’t realize how big of a stress reliever they were for me until I gave them up for 7 months and started playing again. They’re one of the only things that let me completely relax and unwind… probably because they take so much of my focus. It’s a good thing.
Current procrastination: As of the Tuesday afternoon when I’m writing this? Packing for my trip to Vegas. My flight leaves later today (Wednesday), and I have yet to even take my suitcase out of my closet. Oops.
Current confession: I ate the last cookie. And I’m not even sorry. Then again, I live alone, so… there’s that.
Current blessing: Late nights with good friends.
Current excitement: My trip to Vegas! Even though I’m not big on drinking or gambling, there’s still something about Vegas that I love. And I’m very much looking forward to spending some time by the pool.
Current mood: High on life.
Current link: Bloglovin. I’ve kind of been neglecting my blog reading lately, so I’m hoping to catch up with you lovely people soon.
Alright, friendly faces — I’m outta here. Have yourselves an awesome day!
Your turn! Give me your current:

I’m actually reading the same book. Barely started but I heard great reviews too.
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
Usually I’m not super into ketchup, but I’ve oddly been craving it lately and therefore putting it on all the salty things. Have fun in Vegas!
Ellie
Hey Amanda I’ve been reading some of your old stuff and was wondering what you do for a living? I know you must get $$ from your blog, but is there something else?
I need to try out those books you recommend. I am a reading fiend! The current bane of my existence is not having enough time to finish books so I can start new ones π
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me
Have a safe flight to vegas and then have so much fun! Cant wait for some pictures afterward π
Brittany
I’m alllllll about the blog breaks. I’ve been steadily sticking tone post a week, MAYBE two. Enjoy the time away when the feeling calls.
She Rocks Fitness
I don’t do ketchup, but I do hot sauce and I put that stuff on every dinner…HA! The sriracha sauce from Whole Foods is the best. It’s low in sodium, sugars, and the BOMB. And I 100% agree time is flying and lately there is never enough time during the day…xoxo
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
I’m intrigued by that kombucha flavor! Sounds tasty. Have a blast in Vegas!!
lindsay
enjoy vegas!! love that Gt flavor ! pour some vodka in it and drink it at the pool. just sayin..
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
I really liked The Goldfinch. I read another one of hers afterwards and wasn’t as big of a fan but I definitely really liked that one. I hope you have a great time in Vegas!!
Kelsey
Song: I am really loving Fight Song by Rachel Platten (sp?). I’ve also just being loving music in general. I abruptly stopped listening to Pandora, and I’m so glad to be listening more now!
Food: As I write this, I have dinner plans at one of my favorite local restaurants with my CrossFit fam…and I am so excited to have a fun ‘treat’ of a meal out.
Need: Not much, but maybe a couple of extra hours in the day. Who I can discuss this with? Haha.
Bane of Existence: Our cluttered apartment. I don’t know why it has been so difficult for me to keep it tidy these past few months…but it is starting to make me anxious. Ha.
Confession: I don’t really want to be at work this week. It is a slow one…
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
Have an amazing time in Vegas and enjoy some good R&R!
The current bane of my existence is this heat wave in Washington. My place isn’t AC and having the oven on all the time for recipe testing makes the apartment insufferably hot.
Heather@hungryforbalance
I read The Goldfinch last year and loved it!! It is one of books that make you think, if that makes sense.
The current bane of my existence is all the rain! It is like a jungle outside.
Enjoy your vacation!
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
Ah! So many things!
1. Vegas sounds like it is going to be a blast!! I hope you have an amazing time and I can’t wait to hear all about it.
2. I haven’t read Goldfinch but my half sister (who is an avid reader) said it was very tedious to read so I’m not sure I would have the patience to get through it.
3. I’ve also been obsessed with kombucha. It’s so bubbly and refreshing! π
4. I think taking a step back from blogging every now and then is very important to avoiding burnout. And summertime is the best time to do it too because everyone is out having fun and spending less time on their computer. So enjoy your time off! But come back soon. π
Laur
I tried a sip of Kombucha and never went back. I think it was the Triology flavor. I just… cannot. Le sigh. It’s funny because our family always leaves the last cookie/piece of ANYTHING to sit there. No one wants to be the asshole to eat the last one. Hahaha. It’s too funny. Have a safe flight!
Jessie
You always share the best music on your blog. I feel like an outcast these days when it comes to whats in & whats out.. Hello motherhood. Haha!
Vegas? Eek! How exciting. I hope you have the most fantastic time possible. How long will you be gone for?
Curent:
Food: Egg-White Oatmeal w/ nut butter. Mmm!! Can’t get enough of it. If I didn’t already have dinner made for the night that’s exactly what I’d be having… Joshua would get a frozen pizza. Haha!
Cassie @ Almost Getting it Together
I’m procreating on packing, too… I’m leaving for Big Sur/San Luis Obispo super early Friday and have a packed tomorrow… hope you have an amazing time in Vegas, pretty girl!! Get some sun for me π
Emily
Current food: Um…. The cherries that were on sale last week were absolutely delicious… Also I made another coffee cake yesterday that was pretty yummy.
Current confession: I am such a wimp when it comes to the heat of summer. 80 degrees, and I’m hot. ;D
Are you going to Vegas for a fun trip? I have relatives that live there. π
Lucie@FitSwissChick
I seriously wanna fly over and enjoy Vegas with you girl!! Gotta looooove the time at the pool. Put some pics in the chat, promised??
Oh and yes to Ketchup. EVERYWHERE.
aubrey
Watermelon season is the best π
Shannon
Have fun in Vegas! I am currently addicted to grapes! So much YUMMM
Lucy
Song: We Have Explosive (future sound of London)
Food: Manbake cookie butter. High protein low sugar addictiveness!
Need: A shower with any temperature below IT BURNS!
Bane of existence: The weather. I hate this heat wave. I’m a winter person all the way.
Confession: hummus straight from the jar. #sorrynotsorry
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I could eat watermelon every day. I’ve been making slushy’s with them lately. It’s a fun way to fancy up watermelon. Who am I kidding? I like to fancy up any food! Have fun in Vegas!
Miss Polkadot
If it makes you feel any better: my go-to pot for cooking lunch [what? Doesn’t everybody have one of those ;)?] has burn marks [as in: what happens when you decide to go to the toilet quickly as you’re sautΓ©ing onions on the stove ….] that throwing it into the dishwasher didn’t erase.
“I just havenβt felt like dealing with the chips.” <- This. I really want to paint my nails again but knowing the colour will chip after a day or two only is no motivation.
My current song is 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' but in my defense there's a cute sotry behind that :).
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes! Ketchup on everything! I totally approve π
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
My current need is more sleep! I’ve been so tired but haven’t been able to fall asleep lately! Maybe I need a vacation. I’m the worst procrastinator when it comes to packing. I’m a good packer, I just don’t like doing it so its always a last minute rush to throw things in my bag! We are on the same page, I just put my Currently post up today too! π
Alison @ Sweetly Petite
Have fun in Vegas, girlie! I hope you have the most amazing time; relax and enjoy yourself π Hmm.. my current favorite song has to be “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten. It is so motivating and catchy!
Sarah @pickyrunner
i used to go through SO much ketchup at home. My parents were always buying more because I wouldn’t eat food without it for the most part. Ha. Have SO much fun in Vegas and take tons of pics! It’s one of my bucket list places for sure even though like you, I don’t really drink or gamble.
Hollie
I hope you enjoy Vegas.
I did lol at Jamie’s comment about needing money. Don’t we all?
Jamie
Current need – more money? Haha. I am planning a few trips into the new year and I would love love love to be able to have everything set and ready to go by the end of July. Here’s to saving more effectively! I read and LOVED the Goldfinch! Hope you love it too : ) Have an amaze time in Vegas!!!
Hayley @ Full of Life
First off, ketchup on EVERYTHING. If I am eating a savory dish at home, I am also pouring ketchup all over it. But I am pretty sure I (we) do this because it makes the dish less savory and more sweet. #sweettoothsunite Also I love how you’re feeling about life lately and I totally agree π
Georgie
I feel like just two seconds ago I was reading your currently for June. Crazy how fast that month went. Also I’ve never seen that flavor of GTS and now I’m supremely jealous π Confession: feeling a vacation coming on because I’m on the brink of burnout for pretty much everything
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
This time last year I was getting ready to leave for Vegas too! Hope you have an awesome time.
My focus is definitely bad in the summers. I just have a totally different mindset than the rest of the year when work stuff is busy. I love it, though!
Melissa @ Mango About Town
Confession: I used to put ketchup on my pasta when I was a kid! You totally reminded me of how amazing it is (but my Italian bf would STRONGLY disagree haha).
Jen @ Bagels to Broccoli
I totally agree with you on ketchup – it’s amazinggg!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
That looks like a lovely Kombucha flavor! The curret bane of my existence is my slow internet. It’s taking forever to do anything online.
tiff @ love, sweat, & beers
Have fun in Vegas! I’d love to go again when not pregnant. I had a great time at Wet Republic a couple years ago. Then again, not being able to order any drinks probably saved me some $. haha
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl
High on life? AWESOME for you π
Shashi at RunninSrilankan
Don’t feel bad about your burning snafu – the other day I burnt eggs – burnt boiled eggs are no fun! And, smell blech!
My daughter puts ketchup on EVERYTHING too – I didn’t quite understand, till I got my hands on some sriracha ketchup – now I put that stuff on EVERYTHING!
Safe travels Amanda – Hope you have a blast in Vegas! xx
Erin @ The Almond Eater
I HATE when I burn things in pots and pans–SUCH a pain to clean. Have so much fun in Vegas lady!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
I’ve never seen that kombucha flavor and I want it right now! Have an amazing time in Vegas! High on life is a great place to be, enjoy π
