Whoop! There it is!!!
I was wondering when I was going to mess up the date and write 2015 instead of 2016, and I just did it while titling this post… which is weird considering we’re already like — what? — almost two weeks in?
It feels like it’s been a lot longer though, eh? I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like New Year’s happened for.ev.er ago and that we’re hanging out somewhere at the end of February (wishful thinking). But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s actually January, which means that it’s time for the obligatory Currently post! ?
Current book: Promise not to judge me when I tell you that I’m reading Twilight by Stephanie Meyer [again]. You’re judging me. I know you’re judging me because I’m judging me. I don’t even know what to tell you. One day I was just like “hey, maybe I’ll read Twilight again…” so that’s what I did. It’s pretty much as bad as I remember it being the first time, so I probably won’t even make it through the entire book. Still waiting on on Morning Star to come out.
Current music: ? Anthem of the Lonely by Nine Lashes ?
[youtube=”https://youtu.be/kgS1zjvCPF4?t=22s&w=640&h=427″]
Current [non]-guilty pleasure: Decorating and planning in my Erin Condren Life Planner. I almost always set aside some time on Sunday night to plan out the following week, and it’s kind of ridiculous how relaxing and enjoyable I find the whole process.
Current nail colour: Stark naked, but I’m really wishing I wasn’t so lazy with my nails because — have you seen Essie’s latest retro collection? So.cute.
Current drink: Warm homemade almond milk lattes with a dash of cinnamon. Purrrrr.
Current food: Roasted kabocha. I know! I’m pretty sure I went through the entirety of fall without having any sort of roasted squash, so I guess I’m making up for lost time. But hey… it is a “winter” squash ?
Current obsession: False eyelashes. But not actually wearing them. If that makes sense. See, as obsessed as I am with all things beauty/makeup related, I’ve never actually worn false eyelashes. Not once. But lately I’ve been getting more and more curious about how I’d look with falsies, so I’m thinking about giving them a shot just to kill the curiosity. Pray that I don’t end up accidentally glueing my eyelids shut.
Current craving: Chocolate. Like… you don’t even KNOW.
Current need: See above ⬆️
Current indulgence: See above ⬆️⬆️?
Current bane of my existence: This blasted cut that I have on the tip of my thumb. Here’s the story: I was chopping up veggies to make soup on Saturday, when I accidentally sliced into my unsuspecting thumb while going at the carrots. It was so bad that I thought I might have to head into the ER to get it stitched up, but this girl doesn’t do hospitals well, so I… well, I’ll save you the gory details and say that it’s doing just fine now. BUT… I have to wear a bandaid over it, and that means I can’t use my left thumb for texting, e-mailing, browsing the net, and basically anything that involves the touch screen on my phone. Life is hard.
Current procrastination triumph: I think I finally fixed the load time/connectivity issues that Spoons has been having for the last little while!! ? I spent a good chunk of the weekend working on the tail end of the blog, and I’m hoping (fingers crossed) that all the tears, frustrations, and overuse of curse words resulted in a better user experience for you guys! Let me know if you notice a difference! And shoutout to Bluehost* (affiliate link) for being super helpful.
Current confession: I don’t like feet. At all. And I’ve been having some issues with mine. I think it’s time to get some new running shoes because I’ve been noticing a little bit of pain and swelling on the tops of my feet, and the tendons there feel a little tender to the touch. Hopefully it’s nothing that a little bit of rest (and new shoes) won’t fix.
Current quote: This one…
Current excitement: Is it incredibly nerdy to be excited about the recipe that I’m going to be sharing with you guys tomorrow? Because in that case… I’m guilty as charged. But you’d be excited too if you’ve been sitting (not literally) on these for a handful of days, just waiting for the right time to share them…
(hint: if you liked these 2-minute brownies, then you’ll LOVE tomorrow’s recipe!)
Current mood: Lazy. I haven’t been able to get in as much exercise with my wonky feet, and — I don’t know about you guys, but — I feel so much more tired and unmotivated when I’m not physically active. Time to get that blood pumping again.
Your turn! Give me your current:
1) … book <– clearly I’m in desperate need of recommendations.
2) … food.
3) … obsession.
4) … bane of existence.
5) … confession.

Let me know how that went with the fake eyelashes. I always blink at them when I am at the store, but never buy…..I once had lashes extensions which held for about 2 weeks. Fail.
Current obsession is obviously the beach. I am in Sydney since a week and have not done anything else than training, swimming and tanning.
I still want some Kabocha in my life!
Music: I am obsessed with the 90’s Hip Hop playlist on Spotify. So much good old Gangsta stuff.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I probably wouldn’t do anything but stay at the beach either — god knows I could use a little sun in my life at this point. And will do on the lashes! I need to find some good drugstore ones to experiment with first.
Ellie
Yes my dear you need new shoes. Better get them before any foot problems arise (speaking from experience). I just finished a book called Summer Secrets, bit of a chick read but I needed it to get my though my bum knee. I think next I’m going to read Running With The Kenyans. I couldn’t get through Twilight. I tried but it was painful for me to read =P Yes I judge you, but you can judge me for still loving Harry Potter.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
For what it’s worth, it’s pretty painful for me to read as well 😆 It’s just kind of something to get through while I wait for the book I want to come out.
Heather @ Polyglot Jot
1)book:I’m on a quest to re-read all of the harry potters! im almost done book 1
2) Food: Sweet and salty popcorn theres like 3 ingredients and its delicious!
3) obsession: Still the Adele Cd! i cant stop!!!!
4) … bane of existence: the cold 🙁
5) …confession: i love staying at home and relaxing more than going out any day! haha
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh I’m totally with you on staying home and relaxing! Especially now that it’s always cold and dark out.
Julie
I’m waiting patiently for the reviews of that Sephora haul you received a while back. How are things working out? Any new must-haves?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually included a few items in my November Favourites post — the Laura Mercier translucent setting powder and the Anastasia Dipbrow. Definitely still loving both, and I’ll have a few new products to share in this month’s favourites 😀
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy
Never worn false eyelashes. Rarely do my nails. You would think it would be easier to do not working or working from home, right?
Being older, I don’t use my left thumb at all; everything is right index finger. But cuts suck — we have so many nerves at the tips of our fingers! I once had one like that (not on my thumb), where it wouldn’t stop bleeding and I thought I might need stitches . . . of course I was home alone and it was sleeting.
I survived. I even had to shovel the driveway a few days later — man, that hurt!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I do love beauty and makeup, but I’ll admit that I’m often too lazy to do some of the finer detail stuff. And I actually ended up re-injuring my cut with my camera while taking pictures for a recipe. Dang things have to be so heavy!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
Hi Amanda! I LOVE the look of fake eyelashes, but cannot do them myself. I’ve had them done for weddings, etc. and wish my eyelashes always looked that way. As far as books … I do not read as much as I should, so I have no current recommendations for you. Old one though — did you ever read “The Time Traveller’s Wife”? That was really good. I’m still trying to get through “What Alice Forgot” and it’s been months. I’m currently very much into matcha green tea lattes. They are my jam. Hope your feet feel better soon! 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The Time Traveller’s Wife was a fantastic read! And I read What Alice Forgot as well, and found that it was one of Moriarity’s slower books. I really liked The Husband’s Secret by her!
Jo @ Living Mint Green
Top of the foot/tendon pain has happened to me too! But it was from my work shoes (flats) and the top of the shoe digging into my foot.
Omg those brownies look incredible!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ouch. I think mine are mostly from worn out running shoes. I’m hoping that’s all it is, anyways!
Brie @ A Slice of Brie
Current Book: Bird Box by Josh Malerman and it is literally the SCARIEST book I have ever read…and scary really isn’t my thing, but if it’s yours, then this one will not disappoint! Totally not judging you for Twilight! But if you want some book reco’s I’m giving away a book on my blog today…*wink wink*.
Current Food: baked oatmeal! I don’t know why I don’t do this more often, easy breakfast for the win!
Confession: It’s 12:30 and I’m still in my pyjamas. And my christmas tree is still up because my toddler gets so much pleasure out of turning on its lights each morning that I can’t bear to take it down. Also, I’m lazy.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m seriously the BIGGEST wimp, so scary books aren’t my thing, but I’ll definitely check out your other recs! And I think leaving up your tree for your toddler is the cutest thing! I used to beg my mom to leave ours up too 😀
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
I don’t judge you for reading Twilight again! I really enjoyed those books. Now if you were reading 50 Shades, I might have to look at you a little funny. 😉
Also, the fake eyelashes…I wore them for my wedding and I LOVED the way they looked. They were individual falsies though, not the full blown Adele kind of look. But I tried to do it on my own and it didn’t work the same. They were falling off and bothering the shit out of me. I’m sure practice makes perfect but I lost patience, lol!
p.s. I hope your finger feels better soon! I’m sure your phone misses it, haha! 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Confession: I’ve never read 50 Shades and I think I’ll keep it that way 😆 And oh man… individual falsies seem pretty complicated, but I actually know people who wear falsies daily and swear that it’s no more complicated than putting on mascara or eyeliner. I guess practice makes perfect!

So – my turn to say don’t judge me – but, ugh…I so hate to admit this, but my guilty pleasure has been watching The Bachelor! I cannot stand the show but yet I’ve been so drawn to it this season – and that quote you have (love it BTW) reminded me of this gal called Lace on there – she acts cray-cray most of the time and insists that that’s not who she is…hmmm….
So looking forward to tomorrows recipe!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
No shame! I hear The Bachelor is a popular one 😉 And I’d probably be into it myself if I had an easier time getting into TV. As it stands, I can’t seem to sit through movies or shows, even though sometimes I wish I could!
Hannah Elizabeth
Book: I don’t have much time to read actual books (GIANT SAD FACE!), but I love books so I listen to most of mine. Right now, my sibs and I are listening to one together called “The Dragon Rider” by Cornelia Funke. I’ve listened to it before, and it’s a cute one (haha, I do listen to a lot of kid lit, because apparently I’m still 12 on the inside ?). But as for book recs, I *love* the 100 Cupboards series by N. D. Wilson (reread it allll the time!) and the Myterious Benedict Society series is a fun one too. And one of my favoritest books of all time (so far) is a short one, “Rite of Brotherhood” by Cherith Baldry. It’s part of a series too, but can be read as a stand-alone book, and it’s the best one in the series, IMO. ? Of course, books are really a personal preference thing, so who knows if you would like the same things I do. ?
^^can you tell I love books?^^ On to the next current thing…
Food: I just had oatmeal quinoa porridge this morning and it satisfied something deep inside of me that I’m sure I’ll be looking to add more breakfast porridges into my life! Especially since I just ran into a new recipe using something else I’ve been craving a lot lately – bananas!
Obsession: doing yoga every morning. It’s probably not a good thing for me to do long-term, as I have a history/tendency toward disordered exercise habits and thoughts, but I’ve been doing a 30-day yoga thing for fun and I’m loving how it eases me into the day!
Bane of my existence: procrastinating writing a very overdue blog post(s). ?
Confession: Most of my hobbies involve being on the computer (writing, researching, reading, etc.), so I feel like I’ve been giving myself way too much screen time (especially towards bedtime) and it’s affecting my sleep. Or maybe that’s another way of procrastinating?? ?
Haha, you made me laugh over the saga of the thumb, because that *exact* thing happened to me just the other month. I was trying to get a bunch of stuff chopped before my aunt and uncle came to pick me up, and ended up chopping the tip off my finger. Later, we all decided I should have gotten stitches, but that no-way-no-how would have worked out that day, so I made do. Pain pills were my friend as that baby healed up! Hope your thumb heals soon! ?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I love that you love books! And I can seriously relate to loving the kid-lit. Whenever I’m going through a really rough or stressful time, I pick up some of the books I loved in my early teens and it’s SO comforting. And thanks for all the recommendations! I’ll definitely be checking some of those out 😀
Amanda F
The only time I have ever worn false lashes was at my wedding. I did not put them, nor would I ever try. They looked awesome in pictures. I do, however, have a really distinct memory of my husband asking me if they were my real lashes directly after the ceremony. Ha! He was used to me and my blonde, barely there lashes.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve actually know people who wear them daily and swear it’s the easiest thing in the world. I guess when you have that much practice, it probably feels about as complicated as putting on mascara or eyeliner.
Khushboo
Loved reading your current favorites- I’m overdue to put up a Currently post myself! I clearly NEED to come over for coffee- just look at that froth perfection missy! Aside from ALL the coffee, I can’t seem to get enough of Greek yogurt lately & *thankfully* I no longer seem to experience any adverse reactions after eating it :)!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Investing in a good frother was seriously a game-changer for me. And it actually stopped me from going out to Bux daily, so I’m probably saving money in the long run 😆
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
My Mom put false eyelashes on me as a kid when I was mini mouse for Halloween. It traumatized me! They were so uncomfortable. Hopefully they are much better now than back then.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Aww no! I’ve heard that some of them can be super cumbersome, but I think it all depends on how dramatic you go and how well they fit your eye shape. If anything, at least it’ll make something interesting to blog about 😆
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
How do you roast the kabocha like that?? It’s my favorite squash but I’ve been too lazy to cut it into cubes like I used to do. This would be so much easier and I could eat it NONSTOP. GAMECHANGER.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right?! I used to complicate the process so much as well, but all I do is cut it into quarters, scoop out the seeds, and then toss the pieces in a 350F oven for about 30-40 minutes. Easiest.thing.ever.
Emily
Your pictures of chocolatey goodness definitely would make anybody crave chocolate, (maybe even if they don’t like chocolate.)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It boggles my mind to think that people like that exist! 😆
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves
I’m not judging you re-reading Twilight! Maybe because I’ve never read it…and maybe because I myself am terrible at finding good books/reading them in a timely manner.
Sorry to hear about your cut and your calf/ankle/achilles issue! Maybe some Pilates or unilateral exercises can help get that blood flowing? Wishing you a great week, love!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Definitely going to try and incorporate more stretching. It’s already been doing a lot better with rest, so hopefully it’ll heal up without any blips. Happy Tuesday, lovely lady!
Shannon
Food: Smoothies and pancakes!
Guilty pleasure: The Bachelor! ?
Can wait for the recipe tomorrow!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Smoothiessssss. I actually think I’m going to have to whip one up this morning. Even though it’s freezing outside 😆
Joyce
Book–just finished The Handmaid’s Tale and started The Kite Runner. Both really sad books, but I can’t put ’em down! Also no judgment on Twilight. I was about 15 when those were getting popular, so…just saying I get it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I adored The Kite Runner! If you haven’t already, look into A Thousand Splendid Suns. Totally heart wrenching, but such an amazing read.
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
No judgement from me about reading Twilight again. It’s a guilty pleasure book for me. I’ve read the series three times.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Confession: part of me wants to go back and watch the movies as well 😆
Shawna
i made an almond milk latte this am and it reminded me that i need to have one very day. mmmm. i’m trying to stay away from the sweets and chocolate this winter as much as possible but it’s not always easy!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Definitely not easy! <-- I'm the same way. I find it's just about trying to stick to the right kinds of sweets.
Suzy
I NEED to splurge on that milk foaming contraption you use! It’s time. Okay and I just picked up The Awakening by Kate Chopin from the used book store. Here’s a lovely quote, “At a very early period she had apprehended instinctively the dual life–that outward existence which conforms, the inward life which questions.” I relate to this quote because of the way I grew up. This book is incredibly descriptive and meaningful. I can see why it’s a classic!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Love that quote. I’ll definitely have to check out that book. And you -need- this milk foamer in your life. Biggest game changer for me.
Kat
Well, thank goodness my oven is hopefully getting fixed today! We’ve got a repair man coming out, so Ive got my fingers crossed that there is actually a solution beyond just “go buy a new one” because well, that would mean even more days without an oven [its been a week now!]. And how on earth can I make those delicious brownies you’ve got planned to share without an oven [unless they are microwave made, which then I would probably kiss you].
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ack! 5 days without an oven would be torture! I think I’d probably move in with my parents until mine was fixed 😆 And no microwave for these guys, but the original single-serve version is!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
Current…
… book: Um. Mostly The Elementary Forms of Religious Life by Emile Durkheim, but that’s for school. I’m listening to The Goldfinch, though, and I’d recommend that!
… food: Sweet potatoes. I have them pretty much every day. Can’t get enough.
… obsession: Yoga! I took my first class in ages on Sunday and I just want to go back.
… bane of existence: Tiiiiight muscles. Everywhere. Lots of stretching necessary over here.
… confession: It was 8°F here and felt like -6… and I didn’t think it was that bad. Not saying I’d spend ages and ages outside or anything, but it kind of just felt like a normal cold day. What has Chicago done to me??
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I feel you on the tight muscles! My calves and back feel like DEATH. But yoga should help a tonne with that 😀
Juli@1000lovelythings
I have planner envy! I need more asseccories, I get it!
I am so with you on the January thing. This morning a guy at Crossfit wished me a Happy New Year and I was like: ???? It feels like ages ago!
I’d say start Harry Potter but I guess that’s a lost cause ;-P
P.S. I can report that your site loads a holy lot faster and doesn’t freeze my window anymore (at least not today)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Accessories = LIFE… both in planning and in wardrobe 😉 And thanks for letting me know about the load speed, Juli! Such a relief after so long of trying to figure out wth is going on.
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner
Current book: Gratitude Diaries. So far it has helped me so much in changing my outlook on life. I needed this book like you have no idea!
Current obession: kombucha drinks. I literally just discovered them this month. Love them!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Gratitude and kombucha sound pretty fantastic to me! Good for the body and good for the soul 😉
Alyssa @ renaissancerunnergirl
No judgment on the book choice here, I’ve re-read the Hunger Games series so many times! Sometimes it’s nice to have low brain function books to chill with (and a mug of cocoa…)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
So true. I think I prefer vegging out to some light reading over watching TV. And I’ve actually gone back and reread the Hunger Games once or twice myself as well!
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
I’m usually good with dating the new year correctly for the first couple weeks, then I randomly regress to the previous year in February and March. I think the only time I’ve worn false eyelashes was at my wedding and I loved how they looked! But I’m pretty certain I can’t put them on myself!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m thinking it’s going to take a tonne of practice. And patience. And praying to the falsie gods?
lindsay
let me see those eyes!! how does one even put on false eyelashes? let me know if you try it. I will be batting my eyes over those 2 minute brownies tomorrow. <3
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Very carefully 😆 As long as I don’t glue my eyelids shut, I’ll consider it a huge success… even if they end up on crooked 😆

1) … book – Another Piece of My Heart – Jane Green. Chick lit but sucked me in!
2) … food – Pitaya AKA Dragon Fruit. It’s HOT PINK!
3) … obsession – Fitting pitaya into smoothies, protein shakes, and blended fruit bowls.
4) … bane of existence – The price of pitaya at Whole Foods. Sigh.
5) … confession – I love reading posts like this because I get a ton of new book ideas! Thank you.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I seriously love chick lit. No better way to relax than to get lost in some easy reading, if you ask me!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
Haha wow to reading Twilight a second time. I just remember getting through them the first time wondering why the heck I kept going. It’s always the first book of a trilogy that sucks you in.
I second Meghan’s comment about Outlander. It takes a while to get into, but once you’re in you’re hooked!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think I’m going to have to upgrade to Outlander, because yeah… this is getting a little painful. It’s mostly comic relief at this point 😆
Erin@BeetsPerMinute
I love false eyelashes, but my makeup artist friend taught me a trick years ago that totally makes lashes look amazing. You add loose powder onto your lashes (or shake some on the mascara wand directly) and it makes them so much thicker and longer. It really works!
I also cut my hand the other night while cutting sweet potatoes. It’s in a super annoying spot and I feel like all I’m doing is changing the band-aids every 20 minutes. Struggles.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve heard that about powder on the lashes! I’ve always been afraid to try it because I didn’t want to muck up my mascara, but I’ll give it a test run with a tube that’s near the end of its days…
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
If you could make my coffee for me every morning I’d be very happy! False eyelashes kind of go in the “ain’t nobody got time” category for me, but then again most beauty things are in that category lately! And I own 2 twilight books and have still never read even a page – thanks for the reminder that I’m not really missing much 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Noooo you’re definitely not. I could see it appealing to a younger audience, but I guess I’m kind of too old to be able to see past some of the cheesiness.
Alysia at Slim Sanity
I wore fake eye lashes for the first time in a wedding in November. They were pretty amazing. But I don’t think I’d ever be able to make them look good without a makeup artist lol. My current food is breakfast burritos. I made a big batch last week and they are my savior. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s funny because I’ve spent years and years watching makeup tutorials of girls putting them on, but I really have no idea how it’d go if I tried it myself. At the very least, it’ll make for some good blogging material 😉
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Current book Night Film!! So weird, but so good!
And teach me your kabocha ways….mine never tastes good :/
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ack! All I do is cut mine into quarters, scoop out the seeds, and then throw them on a baking pan to roast at 350F for bout 30-40 minutes. A lot of it depends on how ripe the squash you get is, though. The more mature ones always tend to be a little softer, whereas the younger ones are a bit starchier and drier.
Hollie
It’s funny, today was the first day I messed up the date as well so I understand your pain! I feel like I crave chocolate a lot as well. I have a pretty significant sweet tooth myself.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
At least chocolate’s got all those antioxidants 😆
Marina @ Snackie Bird
This. brownie. Amazing! Can`t wait to try them. And if we are talk about book: I read Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham and I strongly recommend it. So hilarious 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thanks, Marina! I’ll definitely look into it.
[email protected]
It took me a long hot minute to get into the Outlander series but it’s safe to say I’m hooked now and I look forward to carving out more time for reading it.
Ok, you go crazy with your planner in ways I do not. I need to spend some more time playing with the cool accessories and less time listing in it. Hmmm. Alright I’ll get it on it…soon.
I’m just now getting into my winter squash so I say bring it on.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Once you go down the accessory rabbit hole, it really sucks you in. Don’t say I didn’t warn you 😛 Seriously, though… I use my planner almost more like a scrapbook than an actual planner. It’s good times.
Kate
Current excitement… The recipe you will be posting tomorrow!
I’m not judging your book of choice. I remember reading the first one in eighth grade and being so obsessed. It’s easy to get involved. Did you read the Divergent series? I found those to be really interesting!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I felt like I liked it better the first time I read it, actually. Going back you kind of realize how goofy some of it is 😆 And yup! I actually really enjoyed the Divergent series. Save for the last book which kind of just killed it for me.
Gaby @ Heels to Sneakers
I love these posts. They are so fun!
Book: anything by Jojo Moyes
Food: oatmeal with lots of peanut butter!
Obsession: workout clothes (they’re all way too cute!)
Bane of my existence: ^^ buying too many workout clothes
Confession: I’m starting a new job for the first time in a while and I’m so nervous!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You’re going to rock the socks off that new job, Gaby! Just remember that 99.9% of the things we worry about never actually end up happening.
