Want to hear something crazy? I was up at 4:30 this morning. Want to hear something even crazier? I think blogging has a lot to do with my inability to sleep in. See, I tend to get overwhelmed when my to-do list starts piling up, and a pretty sizeable chunk of that to-do list relates to blogging. Writing, photographing, reading, e-mailing, commenting… it all adds up.
So, when I wake up in the morning at the crack of dawn to make a trip to the bathroom, I have the hardest time falling back asleep because my brain immediately starts thinking about all of the things that need to get done… aaaaaand it probably doesn’t help that I grab my phone to check my e-mail, IG, and Reader, which only goes on to reinforce the idea that things are adding up. Gulp.
Now, I’m in no way complaining – I love blogging and everything that comes with it; I just need to figure out a way to shoosh the brain a little bit… at least in those precious hours before the sun comes up. So, seeing as I have a feeling that today is going to be a long day, I’m counting down to the weekend… foodie style.
. – . – . – .
Ten… minutes spent throwing together last night’s dinner.
Nine… (ish) glasses of water a day.
Eight… agonizing minutes waiting for the oven to ding.
Seven… years old when it comes to snack time.
Six… apples used to make a fresh batch of applesauce.
Five… ingredients in my breakfast: oatmeal, Greek yogurt, almond butter, honey, and cinnamon.
Four… boxes of cereal in my current rotation.
Three… simple foods for one tasty snack: an English muffin, cream cheese, and maple syrup.
Two… bananas eaten on a daily basis.
One… jelly in Candy Crush that I continuously can’t clear.
Happy Friday, friends!!! 😀
. – . – . – .
Gimme some of your numbers!
What cereal(s) are currently sitting in your cupboards?
What ingredients were in this morning’s breakfast?
Lauren @ The Homeostatic Mindset
I blame you for my Candy Crush problem!!!! I know you said to stay away, but I’m like a little kid. Tell me not to do something, and it’s the first thing I do. 😉 The worst is when I don’t want to spend additional money and have to wait until I can try again…that just kills me.haha For my current cereals, I have classic Cheerios, gluten-free Chex, and puffed millet! So plain, but I always add some combo of nut butters/honey/jam/cinnamon/protein powder, so it always turns out pretty delicious in the end 🙂 Have a great weekend, and please take some time off and give your brain a rest <3
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
This is so cute!! I have 2 boxes of cereal in my pantry: toasted rice chex and Ginger Almond and Cashew Granola from TJ’s (this is to die for). This morning’s breakfast was homemade waffles topped with strawberries and peanut butter 😀
Lauren
1… adorable puppy who makes me smile
2… hours I spent tanning outside today.
3… Sudoku puzzles I finished while tanning.
4… jars of nut butter I currently have in my cabinet.
5… long minutes it takes to make my delicious bowl of oats.
6… minutes it took me to do hair/makeup today. Pro.
7… o’clock is family time in my house (ie. Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune)
8… ounces of coffee in my morning cuppa Joe 😉
9… messages it took for my friend to offer to give me a computer just so I can play CS again. Oof!
10… times I said, “Screw you, Candy Crush”… Actually, it was probably a lot more than 10.
Just try to remind yourself you can do it all when you wake up since you’ve got it all accomplished on a previous day. Sometimes calling myself out on worrying about mundane things helps me realize I just need to relax and it’s not the time/place to worry about such things 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 I’ve reached the point where I’m literally throwing my phone down in frustration. I should probably cut it out before I break something. What level are you on, anyways? And girllll you’re back to playing CS?! I’m going through some serious WoW withdrawals. I refuse to play it on the laptop, and the lack of desktop is starting to take its toll…
kaity @ kaityscooking
love this post! cute idea. Cereal I am currently snacking on is peanut butter puffins <3 Love it. 4 bananas eaten today (its still early though!), 3 eggs today, andddd 2 cups of coffee! My breakfast was the usual, sweet potato with eggs, nutritional yeast, and spinach. I loveeeee Annie's mac and cheese, in the winter I have it multiple times a week
Sarah @ A Refining Adventure
If you figure out how to switch your brain off, please share. I have the same problem. If only there was an on/off switch! Let’s see, 3 ingredients in this morning’s breakfast – oatmeal, strawberries, peanut butter, and 6 things for my dad’s birthday dinner tomorrow night – chicken, rice, peas, fruit, biscuits, and some ‘nanner puddin’ 😉 SAME THING every year. Makes me wonder if he really likes it that much, or if he just has it for traditions sake??? Hope you’re having a fabulous Friday!
Kim hoeltje
I LOVE cream cheese drizzled with maple syrup. I usually spread it on rice cakes or bagels. In my cupboard I have special k, puffed corn, shredded wheat, and rice krispies. All open and half gone.
Becky
4:30 am?? Geez what time do you go to bed? I consider myself a grandma these days…in bed by 10:30, but I still don’t wake up until around 8:30. Gotta get my 9 hours!
I have Cascadian Farms granola, Kashi autumn wheat, frosted mini-wheats (just got it yesterday, making the big switch from Kashi as Kellogs as it’s a bit cheaper), Cheerios (for my brother), All-bran (for my dad and for making muffins), and that’s it.
My breakfast today was the same as every Friday (I’m on a meal plan, so my meals look pretty similar): A bowl of shredded wheat cereal, milk, two scrambled eggs, and a banana!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I go to bed at around 10:30 or 11. I -wish- I could sleep in later, but my body seems to like waking up at that time no matter what I do…
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I love Annie’s snacks! Oatmeal with lots and lots of toppings is my favorite! My mom makes amazing homemade applesauce but I haven’t tried to make my own. Do you just make it in the crock pot?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Nope! Just in a pot on the stove. I give detailed instructions in the recipe.
Emma @ Life's A Runner
I had never even heard of Annie’s until I found your blog, and now I can’t stop! Those bunny crackers…I guess it’s safe to say I’m seven years old too 😉
1: Box of weetabix I can’t find anything to do with.
4: Apples consumed yesterday.
25: Levels beaten on Candy Crush instead of studying…
900: Times my stomach growled looking at those cookies. Recipe please!
Happy Friday 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
For the Weetabix, can I recommend adding just enough milk until the biscuit itself gets soft and soggy, and then topping it with almond butter (or peanut butter) and jam? That’s definitely my favorite way to eat it. I’ve used it to bread baked chicken breasts as well, though, and that tastes really good. And I’m pretty sure that, between my applesauce and apple chip consumption, I end up going through about 4 apples a day as well.
Brittany @ FreckledNettles
I love this post! So creative. 🙂 The cereals in my cupboard are TJ’s Os and Gluten-Free cereal flakes! the ingredients in this morning’s breakfast were oat bran, banana, vanilla protein, cinnamon, and almond butter! Have a great weekend 🙂
Missy
What a fun idea!
I am highly impressed by your water drinking skills!
SD
Such a fun post :)! I’ve got Weetbix biscuits and flakes & Special K at the moment..I usually don’t go under 3 but someone is clearly in need of a grocery store trip :p . Breakfast this morning: eggy banana oats, applesauce, nut butter. I used to moan about not finding unsweetened applesauce at the store until I you inspired me to make my own and my gosh I am addicted :D.
Carly @ Snack Therapy
Blogging is definitely time consuming! Not so much the blogging itself, but everything that comes along with it. I love it, though! Some of my numbers:
2: The time I fell asleep at
9: The time I woke up at (ahh, love summer)
10: The number of days I have left of summer vacay… Wahoo!
Brittany
I don’t blog daily for many reasons and this is one of them! I don’t like to worry about getting a post out. Sometimes I feel the “need” to post and then the post just comes out sloppy (kind of like my post today haha) so it’s better if I just relax and enjoy my day!! I love your countdown, everything on here made my heart bounce with happiness!
Khushboo
I definitely feel you about the blogging stress- thinking of the million thing that formulating a post entails sure can get overwhelming. Those are the days I either put up a light-hearted post or step away completely. Part of me is kinda glad you felt overwhelmed this morning as it lead you to putting up this super fun post ☺! Some of my foodie numbers for the day:
3 apples used for making applesauce
2 cups of coffee drunk
1 killer chicken salad sandwich consumed for dinner
Have a wonderful, stress-free Friday Amanda!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve actually become a big fan of light hearted posts lately, but part of me always feels a little guilty for not posting something more profound and important 😕
Happy Friday, Khushboo!
Julianne @ LifeOffLeash
Cute idea! I envy you guys that blog every day. Envy in a way that I wish I had the inspiration and time- I see how it could really start to dominate if you let it. AND you have a full-time job! What’s my excuse?? aahh
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
This was a fun post! Right now I have Kashi Go Lean granola cereal in my pantry. For my breakfast this a.m. I had smoothie with carrots, grape tomatoes, banana, unsweentened coconut milk, cinammon and vanilla protein powder. Yum!
I hate when I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t turn my mind off. That happens to me a lot these days, and yes, most of it has to do with blogging! Ugh!
Caitlin
Ugh i’m so mad at candy crush right now…i’ve been stuck on 32 since sarurday and still can’t beat it 🙁 so frustrating! I have a long day ahead as well since I still haven’t recovered from last weekend and wednesday’s concert,..I’m just trying to hold on by thinking about pizza for dinner and doing what i can to make the boys smile since that always makes me smile too 😛
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy
See, you do kinda know what a maple syrup sandwich is! Idk if you remember me talking about maple syrup sandwiches.. anyway,
I just bought some Kashi Go Lean Crunch honey and flax, and some Kashi Cinnamon Harvest cereal.
I love Annie’s products too, the bunnies of all flavors and the mac and cheese, white cheddar is amazing.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I do remember! Grilled maple syrup and PB sandwiches 😉 I’ve tried the AB and MS combo in oats before, but never on bread. Definitely on the to-eat list.
Ari @ The Pace of it All
I get to be the same way re: sleeping in! I think, oh I’ll just glance at my phone real fast and then I realize there are comments to reply to, tweets I want to respond to and suddenly I’m wide awake. Dang it! We just need to learn to keep the phones away from ourselves!
Mmm I haven’t had mac and cheese in ages, I want some now!
Katie @ KatieEnPursuit
Happy Friday Lady! Cereal, cereal, cereal…yummm! We’ve got museli, chex, & cheerios in our rotation right now! My numbers would have to be; “Two” the number of cups of coffee I have had. “Twelve” the number of cups of coffee I NEED! Enjoy the day 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha I’m thinking that your second number is going to apply to me too once the afternoon slump hits. Happy Friday, girl!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
So you know I feel you on the blogging-related to-do lists…I love it, but jesus it stresses me out sometimes. Such a time commitment!
I only have three cereal on my shelf right now: Fibre 1, Corn flakes (which I only use for breading) and Frosted Flakes (Eric’s cereal, even though neither of us have touched in about 6 months)…this does not feel like enough cereal. Must work on that.
This morning’s breakfast: waffles, egg, shaved ham, cream cheese, strawberry jam. Wafflewich, how I love you.
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
Aw this is such a cute post. 🙂
I love the Annie’s bunnies! They are a favorite of mine.
Currently in my pantry, we’ve got some Kashi Go Lean Crunch and PB Puffins for cereal, and some muesli as well. Mm. Cereal.
Lawrence
Lol, I loved this post! While I don’t have much to count down…I will say 8 hours to BBQ Carb Fest tonight and I will be 1 and done when its over lol.
Enjoy the weekend!
meredith
I am so with you on the up before 5 am unable to go back to sleep due to everything that needs to get done. I try not to look at my phone when I get up to go to the bathroom. Keyword – try…I was up today at 3 and at some point fell back to sleep until 515…my morning bowl of oatmeal had pumpkin, cherries, blueberries and strawberries mixed with crunch time peanut butter and a dab of mighty maple pb. Love my peanut butter at every meal.
Hollie
My fellow early morning riser. I’ve actually been sleeping in this week to roughly 5:30am LOL. I truly enjoy blogging but I try and do most of my posts on the weekends so that I can relax on the weekdays. Not to say blogging stresses me out really ever but I am such a to list type of girl myself so I like to have everything done and just worry about work in the week and blogging on the weekends.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Lol I consider 5:30 sleeping in as well. So sad. And I’m actually the complete opposite when it comes to blogging – I barely even touch on blog duties on the weekend so that I can have some time off. It probably makes more sense to do it on those days since I don’t have to worry about work, but I like to have a few days where I just don’t have to worry about -anything.-
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen
Love the countdown theme. I’m impressed with your water drinking skills! Also, Annie’s pasta is the best! I had eggs in my breakfast this morning. I’ve been out of nut butter for too long and I’m itching to get some to put in my oats! Have a great weekend!
Suzanne @ Mixing It Up
Clearly, I am failing in the cereal situation as we only have one box: Honey Nut Cheerios. I rarely eat cereal because it isn’t filling enough for me unless I eat three bowls if it but my kids have a bowl every morning.
I have had a major craving for PB&J so this morning I had two sliced of toast, one with almond butter and jelly and the other with peanut butter and jelly. It hit the spot!!
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
I feel you on the to-do list thing. I usually have to get up around 6-ish to take Rosie out to the bathroom, and if I don’t have anything to do on that day I’ll typically try to go to back to sleep for an hour…but I’m never able to. It’s so frustrating! Or when I can’t sleep at night because I have SO much I need to do and I end up taking 5 second naps while stuck in traffic #truestory #Ineedmoresleep
Alyssa @ Road to RD
That Candy Crush board looks super familiar- like the one I was on last night! Those corner jellies are the worst. I try to use the sprinkled candy thing to blow them up!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve been -so- unlucky with the placement of my candies… It’s like the Candy Crush gods are conspiring against me 😡
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Oooh I love the idea of topping an English muffin with cream cheese + maple syrup! I stocked up on fresh berries yesterday so for breakfast I had a huge bowl of strawberries, blueberries and a banana topped with Greek yogurt, cinnamon and honey 🙂
Katie @ running4cupcakes
The baby woke up screaming at 5am. . . thankfully after a diaper change, he went back to sleep, but I couldn’t!! So, I got up, made myself a cup of coffee and got some blog work done! 2 posts that I have been wanting to write done before 7am, on a Friday!! Nice perk of being up so early. .. not looking forward to feeling tired this afternoon.
Tamara
Okay, 1st of all, that english muffin combo sounds DIVINE!
2: Thank you for the applesauce link/recipe. I have some apples that I wanted to make into applesauce and was going to Google around, but now I don’t have to!
And numero 3: That was a really fun, cute countdown! What a cool structure for a post (which I may or may not have to steal some time!).
Happy weekend to you. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Careful with the applesauce! It’s seriously addicting stuff – 6 apples last me about 3 days, and more often than not I’m eating it straight from the container with a spoon. It tastes -amazing- combined with Greek yogurt, though.
Tamara
Thanks so much for the info. I’ll try to make sure I don’t inhale it!
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers
Love your countdown! So creative… and delicious. My #10 was the batch of 10 chocolate chip zucchini muffins I made this week. So far, I’m down to 6…
Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes
I had PB and a chopped banana on toastthis morning. I haven’t had it in ages and was a great meal to have on the run.
Sarah @pickyrunner
Yessss glad you went with Annie’s for dinner! Level 45… Can’t get rid of one jelly. It’s unlike all the others. I’ve been having the same problem with sleeping in. 5:55 seems to be my lucky number. I need to keep my phone out of my room so I don’t grab it. I’ve been waking up at 2 and I end up checking all my social media before going back to sleep, which makes it harder to fall asleep again. It’s actually a problem.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m currently stuck on 38 and it’s driving me insane. I’ve gotten down to one jelly with like 15 moves left and I STILL can’t clear it. Ugh. Maddening…
Jo @ Living Mint Green
breakfast was a bunch of green stuff, banana, blueberries, cacao, vanilla, almond milk – turned into a smoothie. I’m an addict!!!
We have Ezekiel cereal & oats in the cupboard right now. HAPPY FRIDAY!!! 😀
Lisa
I was up at 4:30 today too! Okay, actually it was about 4:40 but who’s counting when it’s that early?
I have the same problem with my sleeping. Ah, when will my body learn. I guess extra coffee is okay today 😉
Haha, I feel like a kid with my Snacking lately too, which I’m perfectly fine with! Especially after years of avoidance of that kind of stuff.
Okay, I think I need to start playing this candy crush game, everyone raves about it!
Happy Friday love!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
I ALSO have 4 boxes in my cereal rotation. And to think that at one point in my life I only ate 1 kind at a time..silly me! 😉
What is your favorite kind of apple to use to make homemade apple sauce? Do you find that some are a lot better to use than others?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Definitely! I generally prefer to stay away from the tart apples – so no pink ladies or honeycrisps. My favorite have been ambrosias for the most part, but I just recently started using golden delicious and I’m really loving those.
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
Happy friday girl!! Love this countdown! there is so much to blogging, it’s literally my other full time job. and yep- it’s those thoughts that get me up in the morning. I currently have frosted mini wheats, cheerios and special k on my shelf. And i can’t eat one without mixing in another. just cant. and my number right now is 5, as in 5 full lives to play candy crush this morning. i woke up so late so i didnt have a chance to play before work, normally i’d be waiting for more around now. have a fantastic weekend!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Lol I’m always stoked to wake up and have a full 5 lives too 😉 What level are you on? I’ve been stuck on 38 for a while and it’s driving me crazy 😡
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
I just got to 38 this morning! i can tell this one is going to take awhile…
