I swear that everyone was talking about cookies on Friday. Blogs I was reading. People I was talking to. Commercials on TV. Cookies, cookies, cookies.ย Okay, so in reality the topic of cookies probably only came up about 3 or 4 times, but you know how when you want something, you suddenly start noticing it everywhere?
Oh yes, friends, I was craving cookies big time, and with good reason too – I can’t even remember the last time I baked any ๐ฏ Even looking through my blog archives didn’t really reveal much.ย ย All I know is that it’s been well over a month, and for a self-proclaimed cookie addict, that’s bordering well onto blasphemous.ย Sure, I can blame the neglect onย cakesย andย muffins,ย but there really is no excuse. So, in an effort to make up for my blunder (read: satisfy my sweet tooth), I baked…
I ran into some problems though… First, I didn’t know what kind of cookies to make. I knew I wanted oatmeal, but I didn’t know what I wanted to toss in. Chocolate chips were an obvious choice, butย – andย don’t laugh – so were raisins. Maybe I’m getting old, but oatmeal raisin cookies are becoming more and more appealing.ย Back in the day, I remember nearly having a fit whenever I’d bite into a raisin cookie thinking it was chocolate,ย but somewhere along the way, my hatred for wrinkly grapes was replaced by fondness, and now I may even prefer them – it really depends on the day. Luckily, there was a simple solution to my first problem – use chocolate chips in half the batch and raisins in the other.
My second problem was a bit more complicated. Everyone knows that warm cookies taste the best with cold milk, but… I didn’t have any milk on hand. I probably could have run over to my neighbor’s (read: Starbucks) and asked for a cup, but that would have risked the cookies going cold on me, which would have defeated the whole purpose.
Solution? Warm cookies and coldย ice cream…
Oh.Em.Gee. This may come across as blasphemous, but I’m going to go ahead and say it anyways. Cookies and milk are overrated. Cookies and ice cream is where it’s at.
Happy Sunday, friends!

Oatmeal cookies: with raisins or chocolate chips?
Do you lick the spoons/bowls even when raw eggs are involved? I can’t do it. It’s so tempting, but my fear of food poisoning keeps me away.
Meghan @ After the Ivy League
Warm cookies and cold ice cream? YES. Those cookies look pretty fantastic. I’m a huge fan too lately of oatmeal raisin cookies. Particularly the oats though..I’ve been loving them in cookies! A cookie seems naked without them now.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right?! I don’t even really enjoy cookies without oatmeal anymore… I think it’s a texture thing.
Cori @ olivetorun
Oatmeal and Raisin… it just sounds better and tastes better.
I’m digging the cookies and ice cream idea- I’ll be working on that for the next time! ๐
Sarah @ feeeding the brain and body
These cookies look so delicious! Its hard for me to choose between raisins or chocolate chips as add ins, both are tasty! Cookies and icecream definitely sound like a great combination. I do lick the batter, even if raw eggs are involved. I do not hesitate at all when it is only egg whites, but I do hesitate when the yolk is involved (but I still do it). I have been food poisoned before, and I do have a fear of it happening again, but for some reason only when I am eating unknown food from a restaurant. I think for me the food poisoning fear has more to do with the unknown of not knowing what I got food poisoned from.
Shira
Yum.. love oatmeal cookies. I love chocolate chip and raisin together actually! It’s my fav.. best of both worlds..I’ve always loved raisins and used to trade halloween candy bars for my sis’s little boxes of raisins ๐ And I don’t do milk with cookies, I used to have juice when I was a kid and now it’s tea alllll the way! And plain oatmeal cookies and dark chocolate coconut ice cream is an unreal combo, so I can see where you’re going with this ๐
Also, I don’t even like cookie dough.. I try it, it doesn’t scare me like it probably should but yeah, I’ve never understood the love for cookie dough.. think it’s a texture thing.. warm, melty cookies are where it’s at, for me anyways.
Molly@This Life Is Sparkling
I love putting a scoop of vanilla ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies to make a sandwich. Try it! It is amazing ๐
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve tried that before but the ice cream just ends up oozing out the side because the cookies are too thick ๐ I’ll have to try it with thinner cookies.
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
Oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips and raisins, coconut, peanut butter chips etc. I love loaded cookies! I always lick the bowl or spoon after all the cookies are in the oven, I don’t really think about the raw eggs in it.
Sophia
Cookies and Milk just got a serious upgrade! Perfetto ๐ licking spoons is heaven and not to lick- much like a baking brake is bordering on blasphemy. I just like cookies- Or “biscotti” no discrimination. love Sophia
Sophia
And I nearly forgot we dip biscotti in vin santo or marsala all the time- the third and only option that may leave you a bit tipsy ๐ xo
Christine
Recipe please!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I used this one from SkinnyTaste http://www.skinnytaste.com/2011/03/low-fat-chewy-chocolate-chip-oatmeal.html but I used 1/4 cup coconut oil in place of butter.
Christine
thanks Amanda! can’t wait to try it!
Andrea @Pencils and Pancakes
Bah… always lick the spoon. Bad habit, but hasn’t bitten me in the butt yet….lol
Eating 4 Balance
This is a perfect idea for those who are not patient enough to make ice cream sandwiches ๐
Reminds me of dipping food into a frosty. Oh goodness…. A cookie dipped into a thick vanilla milkshake would be heavenly!
Sarah Pie
I always lick the spoon, and bowl, and my fingers… ๐
I probably would have solved your problem by throwing in both, chocolate covered raisins are good so why not chocolate, raisin oatmeal cookies?
sarah
I’m an equal opportunist when it comes to chocolate chips V raisins in my oatmeal cookies :). Oats are pretty much a must though.
Did you ever consider the oatmeal raison choc chip cookie? (As in, raisins & chocolate in the one cookie)
Actually, I really love the combination of chocolate chips( or chunks!), dried cranberries , sunflower seeds and coconut, in my cookies.
Actually , I just really, really love cookies.
Xxx
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve thought about putting both in one cookie, but the last time I had that combination was when I was a little kid, and I remember hating it… so I’m scared ๐
Liz (formerly VeggieGirl)
How about oatmeal cookies with raisins AND chocolate chips? Am I too greedy? haha ๐
I don’t lick the spoon either – my body is too sensitive to risk raw egg issues.
molly @ heart, sole & cereal
i am a HUGE fan of cookies and ice cream – in fact i’ve been thinking of making homemade ice cream sandwiches with chocolate chip cookies ever since i tried out my ice cream maker. want to come over and we can eat them together? and i am SO in sync with you on the oatmeal raisin thing. i used to get furious about it but honestly now i love them in cookies. i think oatmeal raisin are getting closer to the top of my list of favorites.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Homemade ice cream sandwiches?!? Of course I’m there! Who in their right mind could turn down an offer like that!? All I need is a time and a place
Andrea @ mainerunnergirl
Now I want cookies! And always I would choose chocolate chips over raisins.
Emily
Mmm…oatmeal raisin cookies have definitely become one of my favorites over the years. Although, tossing some chocolate chips in there never hurts either. (:
I’m not going to lie, I have cookies and ice-cream on a regular basis. Such a delicious combination! My favorite is snickerdoodles with vanilla ice-cream…mmm!
Brittany
I am SO with you on the oatmeal raisin cookies..I did not care for them AT ALL when I was younger, but I JUST LOVE the flavor combo now!! Throw in chocolate chips and oh man..explosive. COOKIES AND ICE CREAM are the best ever combo! OMGG I want cookies now..shit.
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
Chocolate chips always. I do love me some raisins, but chocolate wins every time. I never have milk with my cookies…so maybe I’m just a weirdo!
Yes, I lick the spoon when I’m baking. I know it’s not good for you, but you gotta die of something, right? I’d wanna die happy ๐
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
๐ Now that’s just the best reasoning I’ve heard in a good long while.
kris
cookies + ice cream is WAY better than cookies + milk any day ๐
Oatmeal cookies with raisins AND chocolate chips, please. I love raisins. I actually used to hate them and couldn’t understand why anyone in their right mind would want to eat them plain. I was okay with oatmeal raisin cookies though, which is probably why they are one of my favorite cookies. I just find that they are often too sweet when purchased from stores. That’s why homemade is best ๐
Kat
Oatmeal raisin cookies were always my favourite kind of cookie, even when I was very young. I think I must’ve been the only kid who preferred raisins to chocolate chips (and who still does at twenty). Oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips just don’t seem right to me and I don’t like them at all.
I’ve never been afraid of getting sick off of eggy cookie dough or cake batter. I always lick the spoon and it’s yet to make me ill.
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Mmm…. cookies and ice cream ๐ I’m not a huge milk fan so every once in a while I will treat myself to a delicious bowl full of ice cream and cookies! I also used to hate raisins and cookies but as I’ve gotten older I am learning to like them, especially if there’s chocolate involved!
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
I love oatmeal raisin cookies with vanilla ice cream! When I was little, my dad used to always have that for dessert while everyone else in my family ate something with chocolate involved. I didn’t appreciate the combination that much when I was younger, but now- omg it’s soo good! and yes I always eat the dough. always.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I didn’t believe it when my mom told me that I’d learn to love raisins when I got older either, but lo and behold… I hate how she’s always right ๐
Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin
I actually never eat cookies with milk..and never did growing up. I have hated plain milk my entire life so I didn’t want to waste a whole cup just to dunk my cookie. But I did have ice cream and cookies many times as a kid and cookie sandwiches are one of my favorite things. To sum it up, I 100% agree with you that cookies and ice cream > cookies and milk.
Katherine
now i need cookies.
Kate
Love me some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! I do actually like them with raisins, too – it’s a very different kind of thing and obviously doesn’t work when I’m craving chocolate, but sometimes I’d pick them over chocolate chips. Combining them is genius though! Best of both worlds! And I totally agree – Cookies + ice cream is like 100000x better than cookies with milk. Chocolate chip cookies with a cappuccino though – now THAT’S where its at.
Courtney
Those cookies look sooooo good! And cookies and ice cream is a MUCH better combo ๐
Jess
Personally I’m a sucker for chocolate covered raisins, so I’d put both chocolate chips AND raisins in my cookies. Greedy, I know ๐
Ah, with vegan cookies one can lick the spoon without fear! Personally I could never taste the difference between vegan and regular cookies anyway, so long as the ingredients are all ‘non-voodoo’ as Hollie would say ๐ So I do like vegan cookies very much – Nana’s always used to make gorgeous gluten-free ones but I can’t find them in the shops over here any more. Shame!
xxx
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve never been able to taste the difference between vegan and regular cookies either, and it definitely makes the baking process a lot more fun since I’m able to eat the batter ๐ And I’ve heard good things about Nana’s… but they’re not sold around here either ๐
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
Eating raw cookie dough is the best part about baking! Unless you’re eating the whole batter you won’t get sick.
Liv @ Life As Liv
Can I say raisins AND chocolate chips? Honestly, why limit myself to just one delicious filling when I can have two…? ๐
Khushboo
Has anyone ever told you that you are a genius my friend! Cookies and ice cream are one of the best combos known to mankind! My favorite restaurant here serves freshly baked choc chip, peanut butter or oatmeal raisin cookies and ordering a side of hazelnut ice cream has become almost a necessity! That bit about raisins made me laugh- I am just the same! I love them in cookies and may just enjoy oatmeal raisin as much as choc chip! And salmonella balmonella ie I most definitely lick raw batter!
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
Hot cookies + cold ice cream is the best. Warm brownies + cold ice cream is also DELICIOUS.
I can’t stand cookies that have raisins in them. I like raisins on their own, but in my opinion, they just don’t mesh well with cookies!
Licking the spoons/bowls is the best part! You’re missing out. ๐
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh don’t worry, girl – I do plenty of spoon/bowl licking when eggs aren’t involved ๐
Lucie@FitSwissChick
Hmmmm. Can I come over??
I would do the same – 50% chocolate chips, 50% raisins. Perfect. And as much as I dislike coffee, it’s the only time I actually like it – when I can dip a cookie in it. I know it’s strange, but well…..Milk is a no, unless it’s coconut.
YES, I always eat the batter no matter if raw eggs are in there or not – I hope my trust won’t be punished one day…..
Karey @ Nutty About Health
Your cookies look fantastic! I agree, cookies & milk are overrated… cookies & ice cream sounds amazing!! Yummo!! I’m w/you on loving raisins in cookies… used to hate them too, but now I love them. Prunes too (well, not in cookies)! ๐
Pickyrunner
Oatmeal chocolate chip is the only way to satisfy my 4 year old taste buds. Love grapes but not so much the wrinkly variety. I totally feel you on the need to bake though. I hadn’t done it in far too long until my mom came and we made brookies last night. Good decision.
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
I’m a huge fan of oatmeal cookies in general, but I think I have to lean towards the chocolate side of things. But whenever I’m offered the choice between chocolate and something else, the answer is always chocolate (unless it’s ice cream. For whatever reason, chocolate ice cream doesn’t really do it for me)
And I’ve never been a fan of the cookies and milk combination. Probably because I’m not a big fan of milk! I only buy almond now, and that’s because I can buy the unsweetened flavoured varieties which are a little more palatable to me. I have regular milk in the fridge now that I needed for a recipe, and I’m pretty sure it’s the first time in about six months that I’ve had regular cow’s milk on hand.
And I always eat batter…I’m pretty sure I prefer raw cookie dough to the actual cookies. It’s probably slightly miraculous that I haven’t gotten salmonella by now, actually.
Happy Sunday! <3
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m actually with you on the chocolate ice cream – I don’t think I’ve ever come across one where the chocolate flavor is intense enough for me. Vanilla all the way ๐
Lisa @ Live and Be Awesome
YUM. I’m on a month-long kick of no sugar added and only 100% whole grains, so this is like torture haha. Oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips sounds amazing.
Alyssa @ Road to RD
That may be the best idea ever! I prefer raisin cookies to chocolate chip because I find that I can stop myself after a few, and I eat much less of the batter!
C
eh I don’t really like oatmeal cookies in general…I’m more a chocolate chip or peanut butter or flourless peanut butter chocolate chip kind of girl ๐
And I most definitely lick the spoon and bowl!
caitlyn @ city and the cubicle
oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips! i’m slowly accepting oatmeal cookies with raisins, but chocolate chips will always be preferred. I LOL’d at the part about wrinkly grapes. I wonder if i’ll ever come around to them.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Anything is possible! I’ve even come around to prunes ๐ฏ
