I’m a little ashamed to admit this, but one of the best parts of my Monday morning was waking up, grabbing my phone, and seeing that Google Reader still worked. The second was coffee tea…
And the third was breakfast…
Eggy oats layered with plain Greek yogurt and topped with almond butter and honey.
Blogging, brewing, and breakfasting… not a bad way to start any day if you ask me. Except that things didn’t go quite as well when I tried to do the same this morning…
RIP Reader…
Not a good start, mobile Feedly. Not a good start. And never mind the ridiculous time I was awake… Sleeping in (read: sleeping past 5 AM) is pretty much wishful thinking for me at this point. I have no idea what it is, but I’m trying to cut back on caffeine to see if that helps…
Considering I didn’t have any coffee yesterday and still woke up at the crack of dawn today, I’m going to go ahead and assume (read: hope) that’s not the issue. Too many things on my mind, I guess? Hopefully things settle soon.
Anywho, I spent the rest of yesterday running a lot of random errands that I’ve been putting off, but I won’t bother boring you with those (think banks, car wash, drycleaners, and a trip to the hardware store). I will, however, share my grocery haul with you guys, since I know we all like food…
Pantry: Kashi Blueberry Oat Clusters // Barefruit apple chips // Crofter’s North America jam // Mott’s applesauce (strawberry, peach, blueberry)
Produce: celery hearts // tomatoes // baby greens // baby carrots // cucumbers // apples // pears // bananas
Perishables: vanilla Almond Breeze // Amy’s margherita pizza // salsa // Oikos 2% plain Greek yogurt // kombucha // Natural Selections deli chicken
See that epic stash of bananas? I wasn’t kidding when I told you guys that I was slightly obsessed with them. Those should last me to the end of the week, and if not, you can bet that another trip to the grocery store will be happening – running out of bananas just isn’t an option around these parts.
Actually, let’s talk about grocery shopping for a sec…
I used to love it. I had no problem making multiple trips a week (I could seriously have gone every day), visiting multiple stores to pick up everything that I needed, and spending a good chunk of time walking up and down the aisles, trying to find new and exciting products. Now, though? I’ll only make 2 trips a week max, and I like to be in and out as quickly as possible, which usually isn’t a problem since I basically buy the same things every time and have my route pretty much mapped out.
I’m taking it as a good sign, though. My grocery obsession coincided with my eating disorder, (and I’m not trying to say thisis the case for everyone who likes to shop), so I’m taking the fact that I no longer have such a big interest in it as another sign that I’m well on my way to healing. Squee! Either that, or it just means that I’d rather spend my time/money shopping for makeup… but let’s go with the former – it sounds better 😉
Happy Tuesday, friends!!
. – . – . – .
Do you enjoy grocery shopping? How often do you go?
What’s your favorite thing to shop for? Clothes? Food? Makeup? Home decor?
Brittany
I LOVE to grocery shop. It’s my favorite form of shopping haha. I will go as much as I cannnnn. Is that a passion tea I see?? Passion tea is my go to when I want a drink, but don’t need any more caffeine! SO refreshing.
Liz @ The Girl on Fire Now
I sort of enjoy grocery shopping. It depends on who I go with (teen, so I don’t do my own) Sometimes my parents buy things I don’t want, so then I know I’ll have to eat it later
I love to shop for journals/notebooks or at bookstores/Christian stores. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I had the -biggest- obsession with shopping for journals when I was younger. I’d get all pumped to start a new one, write in it for a few months, fall off the wagon, decide I wanted to start up again, and reason that I needed a new journal to spice things up 😆 Long story short, I have a lot of journals lying around that are pretty much half empty.
Alice
Happy Tuesday!
I literally love grocery shopping, especially whole food stores. Not so good for my purse though (which is currently crying with the amount of food I’ve been buying…oops).

Happy Tuesday!
I literally love grocery shopping, especially whole food stores. Good for smiles but bad for my purse.

Ashlee@HisnHers
I love those refreshers! Theyre so tasty in the summertime!
Ari @ The Pace of it All
Yay, glad that your grocery obsession is gone! Honestly, I hate grocery shopping. Something about it just reminds me of it being something I would do weekly with my now ex and doing it alone just bums me out. Silly, I know.
Those applesauce flavors sound neat btw!
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I love love love going to the grocery store. I definitely take my time. I usually only go about once a week or 10 days, but I love to go. I think that’s the food/healthy nut in me. I really like to shop for clothes, but I haven’t had much luck lately!
Sky @ The Blonde In Black
I’m the same way about bananas. If we don’t have any at home I make it a point to go to town to get some. However, yesterday the grocery store only had super green bananas! This is day three without a banana and it’s getting to me. I truly enjoy grocery shopping. If I lived near a Whole Foods or Trader Joes they would have to start placing restrictions on me because I would go all the time!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Day three?! Oh girl, that sounds horrible 🙁 I’ve had to deal with yellow banana shortages as well, and during those times I’m super grateful that my parents aren’t the biggest fans of bananas so I can always steal some from them…
Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness
I’m the same as you! I used to love to grocery shop when my eating disorder was at it’s height but now I like to be in and out as quickly as possible. I do enjoy the occasional whole foods trip to browse, but for the most part I try to make my trips few and far between!
sophie
I so used to have the supermarket love with my ED. It’s so twisted, like self torture. I’d buy things for others but really want to try them for myself!
I love shopping for things like facial products or books. So. Many. Books.
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I couldn’t figure out what your tea picture was and then felt really stupid when I finally did figure it out. Your banana stash looks amazing! I love grocery shopping! I usually end up buying the same things week after week but still love browsing the isles.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 It looks a little wonky, but in my defense, it was something like 4:45 AM when I snapped that picture…
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
Yeah, def not a good sign that Feedly already has problems.
I’m like you with grocery shopping and only go once a week. I just ont have time for more than that.
Ashley @ OurPersonalRecords
I like grocery shopping because it means more food, other than that I hate it. I try to go as late at night as possible so I don’t have to deal with people walking at a snail’s pace, or crying children. I only go once a week or every other week. I really wish I could tolerate it better because if I go every other week that second week is not good as far as cooking goes. I’m usually digging through the cabinets to see what I can find.
Khushboo
I’ve totally noticed a lack of interest on my part in grocery shopping over the past year too..and this is coming from the girl who would sometimes go daily just to wander the aisles and look at every label. I still love a welll-stocked fridge but not so much the process anymore. That being said, I just arrived in London and am psyched to hit the stores and indulge in groceries not available in Mumbai (I’ve already purchased a looot of Greek yogurt, blueberries and cottage cheese)! Also with all those pears, try making pearsauce- it’s super delicious and I know my fellow applesauce lover would love it!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
My love for grocery shopping is definitely re-ignited when I’m in a new place with completely new products… hence why Whole Foods is at the top of my list of places to visit when I’m in the States 😉 And pearsauce?! Do you make it just like applesauce?
Khushboo
Yes ma’am..just like applesauce!
Pickyrunner
I never used google reader and always used bloglovin but now that I’m self-hosted I’m sad to see my reader in WordPress go. Unless there’s a way to still use it. This adjustment period is frustrating though. I still love grocery shopping but I don’t go up and down every aisle anymore like I did back then and it has definitely lost its excitement. Except when I buy those Amy’s pizzas. Those are bomb.
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
It’s pretty funny that you asked the question about grocery shopping because I was just having this convo with my husband on Friday. My husband usually does all the grocery shopping on the weekends, but every once in a while, I’ll go to the store during the week to pick-up a few odds and ends or some specialty items. So, on Friday after work I decided to go to Wegmans. I had a list and new just what I needed, but as I started my shopping, I became so overwhelmed. I had to ask for help for some of the items, even though they were staring me in the face. It was so weird and I tried to get out of there asap. Weird thing is…I’ve had this happen to me at the grocery store before and it seems to ONLY happen to me at the grocery store. The whole experience kind of freaked me out…maybe I have a grocery store phobia!
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green
I love to shop at farmer’s markets when I get the chance but I also love to hit the grocery stores. I could spend hours in Whole Foods. My finacee HATES to grocery shop so he doesn’t usually come with me, which I don’t mind because I get to spend more time browsing.
Carly @ Snack Therapy
I miss Google Reader so much already. Sad life.
I actually love grocery shopping when I’m not super busy. If I can get to the store on a Sunday, I love having fresh groceries, I love perusing the aisles… But, if I have to go during a weekday, forgetaboutit. Uh uh. Not gonna happen. But YAY for your healing <3. XOXO.
Cori @ olivetorun
Going with Feedly? I use bloglovin on my laptop and phone and haven’t had any issues with it yet.
My all time favorite thing to shop for is running shoes but that is no surprise… really anything that is running gear related is right up my shopping alley. Other than that I hate all things shopping 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
After this morning, I’m warming up to Bloglovin’ a bit more. Right now I’m playing both fields, but right now Bloglovin’ is inching ahead… especially with that handy dandy tool bar that they have.
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
Even now, I enjoy grocery shopping. I like finding new foods and creating recipes in my head that I know will never happen. 😛 Sometimes it is more of a pain than it is fun, though…especially when you’re also shopping for someone who’s a really picky eater (my sister).
My favorite thing to shop for would definitely be athletic clothing, shoes, and accessories. I could try them on for hours on end and never get bored…
Becky @ Olives n Wine
I love grocery shopping! I tend to go 2-3 times per week mainly because I go through fresh produce like it is my job and I need to restock 😉 I’m with you though – I used to love shopping, any kind really, but now it seems more of a chore. Maybe it is because I am trying to be more responsible with my money?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 Maybe… having to grow up and be responsible really sucks the fun out of life.
Katie @ running4cupcakes
I try to limit trips to the gorcery store to once a week. helpful for my grocery challenge too! I find meal planning really helps eliminate extra trips too.
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
I love going grocery shopping! I love seeing and trying all the new products. Plus if I don’t go, then I know my family isn’t going to pick up what I want/need. And I love coupons haha.
Sabrina
Grocery shopping for me! Clothes don’t excite me as much and I’m minimal when it comes to makeup. Funny how your favorite things all start with a ‘B’ 🙂 You’ll get some lovely spotted bananas by the end of the week, if they last that long!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
Ooo, that new Kashi cereal sounds tasty! I will be on the lookout for that. I just bought the vanilla graham GoLean flavor and I cannot wait to try it! I must be in a vanilla mood, because I am loving the Vanilla Chex cereal right now, too!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Definitely try out the blueberry cluster one if you come across it! This is my third box, so I guess that means I must like it 😆
kaila@healthyhelperblog!
I am the same way with grocery shopping. While I like restocking and getting food back in my house, I like getting in and out and I don’t even have to make a list any more because I know exactly what I need to get and where everything is! Very efficient! Haha!
Alyssa @ Road to RD
I find I like grocery shopping a lot more if there’s other people I’ll be shopping for. If I’m buying food for just me, I’ll put it off until I’m out of basically everything!
Lisa
Haha funny you said that about your Monday morning because I wrote that on twitter yesterday, I was quite pleased it still worked.
I love looking in others shopping bags – must be the nosy part of me, I guess that and seeing what other people eat.
Oh and I had to smile at your title – because those are three of my favorite things, obviously.
I think you’ll be sleeping better soon as soon as a little something starts up for you 😉
I think you know my favorite thing to shop for is makeup. I just love it, but I do love grocery shopping as well.
I can’t pick a favorite.
Liz (formerly VeggieGirl)
Sorry about Feedly – now I’m especially glad I chose Bloglovin, haha.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve actually been warming up to it a little bit more myself. Right now I’m kind of playing both fields, but it’s getting a little complicated.
Liz (formerly VeggieGirl)
You player, you! haha
Sarah Pie
I used to like grocery shopping (I’m not allowed while living at home because my mom thinks I take up too much fridge space…) but down at school I was a several trips a week kind of gal and I loved it! Besides food I love shopping for clothes at places like TJ Maxx and Goodwill, the thrill of hunting down that perfect dress gets me every time 🙂
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
Blogging, brewing and bananas….. you really got my attention with this title and three of my favorite things! I like to grocery shop, but only at certain stores. My favorite thing to shop for is clothes….when I have money to burn. 😉
Kat
Ive seriously been so horrible with sleep lately, that its actually starting to depress me. Im running out of ways to make myself fall asleep at night and its really getting to me!
I do however, love to grocery shop. I think its because Im so addicted to finding good deals though. Like it is my mission every week to find the best sales and deals on food that I can find (even though I only shop at 2 stores lol) Its just such a feeling of accomplishment to save money!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I seriously need to take after you. I’m -horrible- when it comes to shopping deals. I take advantage of them when I come across them, but I’m definitely not a couponer or deal-scoper-outer.
sara @ fitcupcaker
I love Amy’s pizza’s. I think I love grocery shopping more than I love regular clothing or anything else shopping lol. I spent like 2 hours in whole foods this weekend!
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers
I go grocery shopping once per week, often with one little mini trip for stuff I forgot thrown in as well. I sometimes enjoy it because I like shopping, but I often just hate that it’s one more friggin errand to run.
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy
I love shopping for home décor! We move in 30 days and I’m soooo excited to decorate! We have a store called hobby lobby and when I walk in my heart just gets happy. It has everything art wise you could imagine and the whole middle of the store is home décor. Just mirrors, vases, ect… The best part is half of the store is 50% off one week and the next week the other half is 50% off. You never buy anything full price there.
I love grocery shopping too as long as it’s without kids! Scarlet doesn’t like sitting in the cart too much. Yes, I become “That mother” with the screaming child running around knocking things off shelves. (Head down in shame)
Jo @ Living Mint Green
I am a fellow banana hoarder too – wanna know something bizarre? I wanted to go for a walk the other night and our banana stash was dangerously low, so I grabbed my backpack and walked 8k round trip to get bananas. Hahah. Ummm… have you ever tried walking with a backpack filled to the brim with bananas? It’s so uncomfortable!!!
I love grocery shopping- but I have to go really early in the morning before it gets busy or I get angry. Oooh I’d have to say shopping for makeup & accessories is prob most fun – esp at Winners! I love going through all the shampoo, lotions, nail polish, etc.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 I’ve definitely made those excuses to hit up the grocery store. Two birds with one stone… what’s not to love? And I’m kind of Winners obsessed too, but for me it’s more the Homesense part… I can’t even tell you how many pieces of decor I’ve picked up from there…
Kelly @ Femme Fitale
I actually love grocery shopping, minus carrying the food into my house and putting it away. Especially now that I’m simultaneously wrangling a 4 month old. Your food pictures make me excited for my first Canadian grocery trip (3.5 weeeeeks)!! I miss the Superstore!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
!!! You’re going back home? Where will you be?
Kelly @ Femme Fitale
Just for 5 weeks..to the East Coast (family time). Sadly not making the trip to Alberta this time around. Can you believe it was an extra $1000 to add a stop over in Calgary to my round trip ticket? Thieves, I tell you!
Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes
I love grocery shopping and filling my trolley wil lots of new things to try…sad I know! 🙂
Ksenija @ Health Ninja
Uh, though I an totally relate in terms of being grocery shopping obsessed before (other girls loved to go buy shoes, I loved to buy some “healthy foods”) and happily healed now – I make a list, I choose one store and if I don’t get something what I want there, it’s alright I pick it up next week when I go to the other one. But I still love to see other people groceries. Guess that’s part of being a food blogger nerd 🙂
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
When I had a car, I loved grocery shopping. Then when I didn’t have a car but lived within a block of a whole foods, I still loved it. Now that I live about a mile from the nearest grocery store, I hate it. It’s a very delicate balance of what I need, what’s on sale, and how much I can physically carry the mile back to my house.I actually have a whole system of weight distribution in various bags, so I can carry quite a bit, but still, it’s not fun. favorite thing to shop for, hmm, clothes. I gotta go with clothes on that one. anyways i tried throwing some chopped up bananas in the freezer last night and this morning, omg, i was so happy 🙂 you’re right. they’re SO good.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Eee that definitely doesn’t sound like a good time. Actually, thinking about having to do that in the dead of Canadian winters is kind of terrifying… So let’s think about frozen bananas instead 😉 Glad you loved ’em!
