Sometimes things just don’t go according to plan. Yesterday I mentioned that I had a fun and somewhat different post planned for you guys today, and then life decided to jump in and have a good laugh at my efforts (read: major SNAFU). I might have still been able to pull it off, but it probably would have ended up being rushed and half-assed, which isn’t exactly the look I’m going for. It’ll still happen, but probably some time next week.
I learned two very important lessons from this whole ordeal. First, while you may be able to get away with procrastinating on a lot of occasions, it will eventually bite you in the ass — don’t do it. Second, blends are lifesavers. The lovely Cait tagged me with the Liebster award last week, and while I was planning on filling it out anyways, I had to do a little bit of rescheduling and move the date up. This isn’t the first time that blends have saved me in the midst of a blogging fiasco — I honestly don’t know what I’d do without them.
Here are Cait’s questions…
1. What would be your dream living location {in the US}?
… but I like living in Canada. I don’t really feel like I can answer this question fairly since there are so many places in the States that I haven’t been… especially when it comes to the east coast. That being said, I’ve done a lot of road tripping down the west coast, and I wouldn’t mind living somewhere in Oregon or the Bay area.
2. What’s your go-to way to unwind from a busy day/week?
Treating myself to an at home spa night. After spending so much time on everything/everyone else, it’s nice to be able to spend a little time on myself. I’ll light some candles, run a bath, toss in a bath bomb from Lush, throw on a DIY facial mask, and relax for a while before jumping in my PJs, whipping up a cup of hot chocolate, and giving myself a mani/pedi while watching a movie. Good times.
3. What’s something you always have in your pantry?
My hands π I’m a serious snacker, and since I work from home and have a standing desk set up about 5 feet from my pantry, sometimes I feel like I’m in there more often than not. But if we’re talking strictly food items in my pantry, then I’m going to go with almond butter and oats — their presence is non-negotiable and emergency grocery store runs will be made if either supply runs low.
4. If you’re going to the movies, what do you choose? Something sweet, sour, or salty?
Definitely not sour — I had a bad experience with a bag of Sour Skittles a handful of years back and I’ll never touch the stuff again. That being said, I love gummy/fruity candies, so I’ll usually go for a bag of bears or jelly beans. Oh! Or Junior Mints! I wouldn’t even necessarily say that I like them, but for some reason I always get hit with a craving when I set foot into a movie theatre. In short… sweet, always sweet.
5. Favourite cuisine to celebrate something over?
Is it weird that I don’t really care to celebrate over dinner? It’s not that I don’t enjoy it… it’s just that I only see it as a formality before dessert π Celebrations call for ice cream.
6. Quiet night at home or night on the town?
While I usually prefer quiet nights at home, I definitely need the occasional night out — balance. I don’t have the stamina that I had in my late teens and early twenties so I’m usually more than done by 11:30, but I’m the Dancing Queen until that happens.
7. Why did you start your blog?
Honestly? Originally as a way to distract myself while I recovered from my eating disorder. I had been reading blogs for a while and I really wanted to be part of the supportive community that I saw online. I fell in love with the creative outlet that blogging provided me with, as well as the amazing people it introduced me to. Publishing that first post was definitely one of the best decisions I ever made… as was coming back after disappearing for a while.
8. Favourite reality show?
Sometimes I feel like I’m one of the only people who doesn’t watch reality TV… which is especially awkward when everyone is talking about the latest happenings in The Bachelor and you have no idea who Juan Pablo is or what he did to piss everyone off π― I think the only show I’ve ever caught more than once or twice has been The Kardashians, so I guess I’ll go with that one.
9. What are three things you always have in your purse?
Besides the obvious things like my keys, phone, and wallet? Gum, chapstick, and snacks. Gum because my mouth gets bored, chapstick because there’s nothing more annoying than dry lips, and snacks because there’s nothing scarier than a hungry Amanda. I’m kind of OCD about keeping my purse clean so you won’t usually find anything strange in there. That being said, there was that one time with the lemon…
10. Go-to summer cocktail?
I’m going to go with sangria on this one… you know me and my sweet tooth.
11. What’s something you hope to gain or do in 2014?
I want to keep growing Spoons, get my health coaching business up and running, go back for more school, and keep living and loving life π
. – . – . – .
I’m technically supposed to tag a few people, but I don’t want to have to choose so I’m just going to go ahead and tag anyone reading π Hope you guys are having a great day! And I’ll see you tomorrow with a recipe for something I teased you with on Instagram a few days back π

Omg, I had a horrible experience with sour Skittles too! Scarred for life! Lol! I’m not much of a movie muncher, but every now and then I’ll go for some popcorn. Back in the day though I was all about some Jordan almonds, chocolate covered raisins, and Twizzlers!
I ALWAYS have at least one…ok, THREE boxes of cereal in my pantry at all times…and a shitton of protein/snack bars!
I’ve gotta say I’m surprised you went with ice cream and not cake for your celebratory food! π
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely
Always in my pantry? Definitely oats, some type of pasta I can quickly cook up to toss with some veggies and olive oil, and some of the hubby’s favorite Ritz Cheese crackers (he eats like a child sometimes, but so do I. ;-))
I’m NOT a fan of sour candy. They do that weird “rub the roof of my mouth and tongue raw” thing. Not a fan.
Kim @ Racing Bananas
Hahaha, I actually LOLed when I read that your hands are what you always have in the pantry. Best answer ever π
Tina Muir
Great to learn more about you Amanda! Totally with you on the sweets thing, not too much of a fan of sour candies, unless there is no other options. I definitely also celebrate with ice cream for many occasions! I need to get my hands on some justins peanut butter, but right now I am on a make it myself kick!
I love going into the movies with a selection of sweets, to reach in the bag not knowing what I will pick up π Pick ‘n’ mix π
Arman @ thebigmansworld
not liking this posting schedule π
sour candy…….oh man I had a similar situation with an entire pack of warheads- to the point it ripped off skin inside my mouth lol!!!!! sour peach hearts are epic though! Always have peanut butter and a knife in my pantry….or at least the former.
davs just got me into the kardashians. I hang my head with shame.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s the same posting schedule as before! Clearly you need to rearrange your sleeping schedule π
Gina @ Health, Love, and Chocolate
I think I speak for all your blends when I say we are certainly glad you game back after your little blogging hiatus. π
Kelly @ Femme Fitale
Love these little surveys, and especially love your “way to unwind”. Makes me realize that I could desperately use a time out. My parents arrive this weekend for a visit, so I’m looking forward to having some help with the little one!
YesYesYes to sangrias!!! π
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Healthy Kitchen
I have the same answer as you for your first question – I always have oats and AB in my pantry too! Plus some kind of chocolate – definitely a necessity.
As for movie snacks, I really like popcorn and Junior Mints, but I don’t love the crazy prices. I prefer to just load up at the Bulk Barn prior to going to the movies – homemade trail mix, Swedish Berries, and Hershey’s Kisses are my faves! I’m not a fan of sour candy either though.
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves
Loved getting to know more random facts about Spoons! π
I must say, I’m surprised you didn’t choose Hawaii as one of the states in which you’d like to live. I mean, I guess I would miss the mainland eventually, but it wouldn’t be SO bad out there π
Always in my pantry: peanut butter and/or sunflower seed butter. And oats! Not like that’s a surprise.
Favorite movie snack: I’m actually going to have to say the salty snacks get me at the movie theaters! So against my normal inclination for sweets, but popcorn is where it’s at for me.
Sour candyβ¦.meh. I’d prefer Reese’s pieces or Junior Mints for sure!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I was -thinking- Hawaii, but while I love to visit on occasion (especially in the winter!), I don’t think the tropical climate is one that I could live in full-time — my body isn’t a fan π And where would I go snowboarding?!
Jenna
I agree with you on the sweet movie snacks! My movie theatre has froyo, so I usually get that! I wish it was self serve though.. they never give me enough π I also don’t watch/don’t like reality tv! There are just so many good scripted tv shows to watch, I have no interest in reality tv! π
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Now you have me even MORE intrigued about what’s to come! Secrets, secrets… And you know I totally agree with your statement that blends are lifesavers. So freakin’ true! I have met some of my bestest friends through blogging over the past year.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π Now you have me feeling like it has to be some big huge thing because I’ve worked it up so much. It really isn’t, though! Just something a little different from the norm around these parts.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Hmmm always in my pantry…probably oats, rice, beans. For some reason I have a hoarding mentality without the clutter, so I always like to have a back up handy. One can of tomatoes is never enough; there must be two. You get the idea.
My purse has Chapstick, pen and paper for my lists, my ID badge for work, and lotion.
Popcorn with extra butter.
Heather @PrettyHealthyMostoftheTime
I always have at least 2 kinds of almond butter around (I like my options!) My favorite movie snack is definitely the popcorn with pretty much ANY candy. I love all forms of candy (sour included).
My husband doesn’t like candy and I’m not sure if I should pity him or be jealous…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π That seriously made me laugh out loud. I’m not really sure either…
Lauren @ LoveChocolateLife
I also agree that celebrations call for ice cream !!! Love it !!
What do you always have in your pantry? hmmm I always have chocolate or chocolate chips.
Whatβs your favourite movie snack? Those polar caps what are they called ? the snow cap thingys !!
Are you a fan of sour candy? Yes I love sour patch kids but am def a sweet over sour person !!
PS I made your muffins this weekend… SO FREAKING GOOD. thank you π
