Herro der! (read: hello there) Happy Tuesday!
Tuesdays are a good day for surveys. Why? Mostly because Mondays tend to be pretty manic and, by the end of the day, I need specific questions laid out in front of me to direct my thoughts in some coherent way.ย I’ve been seeing this survey floating around the blog world lately and figured I’d join in on the fun. So may I present you with:ย The ABCs of Me…
A. Attached or Single?ย Mum’s still the word on this one for now ๐
B. Best Friend?ย Coffee. It really brings out the best in me.
C. Cake or pie?ย Definitely cake – especially if we’re talkingย Black Forest. Truth be told, I don’t really like pie… The cream ones are still tolerable, but if we’re talking things like apple or pumpkin? Not so much.
D. Day of choice?ย I honestly don’t have one. I’ve had crappy Saturdays and amazing Mondays… and vice versa. Every day has the potential to be good or bad, and since I wake up ridiculously early regardless of what day it is, it’s really all the same to me. Back when I was a kid, it was definitely Saturdays though. Eating cereal and watching cartoons in my pyjamas? Bliss.
E. Essential Item?ย Contact solution… or I suppose if we want to get down to theย bare essentials, glasses. My vision is pretty bad (like -4.5 and -5.0) so without my glasses/contacts, I’m pretty much useless.
F. Favorite color?ย Black. I like other colors, but no matter how often I try to add more color into my life, I always gravitate back to black. And I know black isn’tย technically a color, but let’s not get caught up in details.
G. Gummy bears or worms?ย Bears, simply because they’re easier to pop into your mouth and you don’t have to worry about biting them into smaller pieces.
H. Home town?ย Edmonton, Alberta. Born and raised.
I. Favorite Indulgence?ย Beauty products. I think it’s probably pretty obvious by now that I’m a complete beauty junkie. Makeup, hair products, perfumes, creams… I’d go as far as to say that I prefer shopping for and buying these things more than food.
J. January or July?ย I feel like I should say January because of my birthday and all, but let’s be honest… no one in their right mind would choose January over July… especially if you live in Canada.
K. Kids?ย I’d love to have some someday. For now, I have a plant… And I’ve nearly killed him more times than I can count, so let’s hope I do better with little people.
L. Life isnโt complete without?ย Love, laughter, and chocolate…
M. Marriage date?ย Awwwwkward…
N. Number of brothers/sisters?ย Zeer-oh. I’m an only child, and I’m seriously starting to feel like a rare breed – seems like everyone has brothers and sisters but me! I remember loving the fact that I was an only child when I was younger, but now I really wish I had a brother or sister to confide in.
O. Oranges or Apples?ย Apples. I love both, but considering I probably eat around 4 apples a day between all my chips and applesauce, I’m going to go with apples.
P. Phobias?ย Needles. There are other things I don’t like (snakes, horror movies, dentists, being in water where I can’t see my feet), but those I can still tolerate… Needles, on the other hand? No way. No.freaking.way. I actually have to drug myself when I need to get blood taken or there’s just no way I can do it.
Q. Quotes?ย You can check out my Pinterest board if you’d like to see more, but a few favorites are:
R. Reasons to smile?ย Everything? Honestly, whyย not smile? Sure, there are plenty of crappy things to deal with, but it’s all about what you choose to focus on. Keep your attention fixed on the negative and, sure, you won’t find many reasons to smile; but they’re always there if you just open your eyes to them.
S. Season of choice?ย Fall. Even though it’s slightly tarnished by the fact that winter is right around the corner, there’s nothing [else] not to love about fall. Beautiful colors, delicious flavors, fun fashion trends, and that calm and cozy feeling in the air. I only wish that it lasted a little longer…
T. Tag 5 People. Nope.ย I don’t play favourites.
U. Unknown fact about me?ย I actually considered trying to become a professional race car driver. I don’t talk about it a lot here on the blog because I have a feeling that not many people in this community share my interest, but… cars [and driving] are another one of my biggest passions. I blame it on the fact that my dad’s in the business and I basically grew up in a garage, but I have a serious love affair going with all things automotive related. I’ve rebuilt engines, I’ve raced on and off the strip, and there’s almost nothing I find more therapeutic than going for a cruise late at night. So yup… cars – I like them.
V. Vegetable?ย Corn. Whether it’s fresh, frozen, grilled, popped, or in candy/cereal/grain/chip form, corn is pretty much amazing no matter which way you choose to eat it.
W. Worst habit?ย Oh geez, where do I even start? I guess I’ll go with the fact that I tend to put everything off until the last possible minute; aka: I procrastinate like crazy. This was a big problem when I was still in school because I’d put off essays until the day before they were due and end up writing them until 3 in the morning, but even now, I tend to procrastinate until I really can’t get away with it anymore… and my bad habits are only reinforced by the fact that the outcome is always positive.
X. Xray or Ultrasound?ย Does anyone honestly have an opinion on this? The only way I could ever see someone preferring one over the other is if they were pregnant and able to see their baby. Otherwise, both probably mean something is wrong so it’s like choosing between shi… two undesirable things.
Y. Your favorite food?ย Almond butter. Not only is it amazing on its own, but it makes everything you put it on taste 100x better. I can’t even tell you how many kitchen failures I’ve saved by smothering the disastrous results with almond butter. This stuff can do no wrong.
Z. Zodiac sign?ย Capricorn. I don’t really pay much attention to horoscopes or Zodiacs, but I have to admit that most of these are spot on…
. – . – . – .
How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Do you put much weight in Zodiacs and horoscopes?
Take the first letter of your first and last name and answer the questions associated with it!
Sophia
Oh Amanda, the first letter of my name and last name- ugh. Season- spring, love thee green and new birth the planet goes through. Atached/single this is where it hurts ๐ I am so happy for you keeping mum on that question- I am taking it as you have a lovely man who’s too good to share ๐ I have two brothers, one is older and the other younger. The older one is a philosophy professor and the younger is in year 8 at school. I am a Scorpio, The weird thing is my mama is too, and my nonna and my great grandmother! I am not sure what that means…… Lots of love Sophia
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Sending hugs for your huts, love <3 It'll get easier soon. And I very much look forward to you changing my mind on apple pie ๐
Sophia
:)None can resist Nonna Lucias apple strudel recipe
meredith
I am actually an only child…and I totally believe in horoscopes and zodiac signs although I am a Gemini and not at all bipolar lol..I also believe in psychics and mediums and all of that stuff too. I think there is just too much there for it all to be coincidence.
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen
I would definitely choose beauty products and clothes over food purchases. Hints why I eat so much quinoa + veggies haha! Also, I’m an only child too! I’ve always wanted siblings though, but I’m lucky to be so close to my parents. ๐
Lauren
L- Life isn’t complete without… love. Hands down, most important thing.
I have two older brothers so I’m a pretty tough girl. Maybe not so much emotionally, but I know a lot about how guy’s think which helps me in a lot of situations. Haha!
Aquarius (we share a birthday month!!!). I didn’t believe in Zodiacs until one of my hs best friends gave me a birthday book which describes you based on your birthday. Mine was spot on in CREEPY ways. Like, really creepy.
Laura Agar Wilson (@lauraagarwilson)
Oh I love these surveys! That chocolate sounds amazing, yum! L – well I would like to take the same answer as you for that one, but perhaps I’ll add good coffee, friends and family to the list. A – attached of course and W – well my worst habit? That’s a hard one, probably stressing over little things!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That’s something I could definitely work on too!
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Cute! I love learning about bloggers via surveys ๐ K – Kids – Err… none right now, not really sure if I actually want them. (sorry mom!) BUT, I do have a dog and he counts, right? ๐
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green
Cute post! These posts are a great way to get to know bloggers. I don’t follow my horoscope either.. but my birthday falls on a date that makes me both an Aquarius and a Capricorn so I have to read both to get an accurate reading.
Liz (formerly VeggieGirl)
This is fun! ๐
1.) I have 2 older brothers and 2 sisters-in-law.
2.) I’m an Aries and, I have to admit, my horoscope is usually spot-on when I read it.
I’ll use the letters for my nickname and last name instead of my “proper” first name:
L: Life is not complete without supportive family and friends.
S: Fall. Your explanation for why Fall is the best season says it all!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
LOVE this! I just might have to steal it for a future post ;).
Also, is it weird that I sort of forgot that popcorn actually comes from a vegetable?!? I guess I just associate it as a snack food, and totally forgot it is actually corn. Goodness…
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
I love surveys like this, it’s always neat to learn new little tidbits. Yes, we all know you’re a beauty junkie! Beauty bloggers get sent some of the newest stuff to try, have you ever thought of going that route for a section of your blog?
As far as Ultrasound vs Xray, uh, Ima have to say Ultrasound since that’s what I do and there is zero radiation which is a major plus in my book! ๐
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’d honestly love to go that route, but I have no idea how I’d go about doing it! I’ve been part of the HLB community for so long now that it would feel kind of strange to try and switch things up.
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy
I’m attached to a bf. Not married though.
Cake definitely beats pie. Hands down. Carrot Cake is my favorite!
Lisa
I totally agree, there is nothing not to love about fall! The Fall is definitely my favorite time of year!
kris
eee, i love these! and uh, letter U. Racing cars?? That.is.awesome!
Siblings – I have one of each. Can’t live with em, but can’t live with out em. haha
K – I’m right there with ya sista! First I need to learn to remember to water a plant. hehe
C – Hmm this one is a toughie for me. I loveee apple pie. But I also like a good slice of cake! I’d have to go with cake since there are a lot more cakes I love than pies.
Ari @ The Pace of it All
I love fall, that’s so my favorite season! Makes me sad that we only get fall for like a week in Texas. Grrr. Yum, corn is my favorite too! And why so secretive with the attached/single question?? ๐
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I just find dating and new relationships to be too complicated and sensitive of a topic to blog about.
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
Love this! I have one brother and one sister. I don’t put too much weight in zodiac signs, but I do have to admit I fit the characteristics of a Leo to a tee!
K- I have three kiddos…16, 12 and 7….and by the way it’s almost impossible that I have a 16-year-old. I was pretty darn young when I had her. ๐
L-Life isn’t complete without family, good health and COFFEE!
Meghan @ fitnesscrEATures
I love reading these things! Coffee is my best friend too – every darn day we hang out. Your cosmetics obsession is wonderful – keep that up! ๐ I can’t keep a plant alive either, it’s embarrassing. I have one younger sister, but I know lots of only children! Though, you’re right, it does seem to be a rarer breed. Embrace it! ๐
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Ahhh stealing this in the future!
I knew you were into cars, but I didn’t know you were into racing them – that’s all kinds of awesome. And I feel you on the contact/glasses thing…I have a weird paranoia that one of my contacts is going to rip somehow when I’m out of the house and I won’t have my glasses and I’ll be completely useless because my vision’s so bad. LASIK is in my future.
Annnd I find zodiac signs interesting, but I don’t know how much I really believe in them. Although, I’m a Scorpio, so apparently I’m jealous, passionate, sexy and mysterious…which seems pretty accurate for me (I think, anyways).
S – season of choice: I’m going to agree and say Fall. It’s not too hot, the leaves are gorgeous, there’s my birthday and Halloween, and with school starting in September it always feels like new beginnings.
K – kids: I told Eric that I am a package deal that includes future children, I know I really want to be a mom someday. Not quite there yet, but it’ll happen.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve thought about LASIK but I’m seriously paranoid that they’re going to botch it and I’ll end up blind ๐ฏ And I have astigmatism so I’m not even sure I’d be qualified for it… But oh man, it would be SO good to be free of glasses and contacts…
Lauren @ The Homeostatic Mindset
Saaaame. My distance vision is CRAP, and I have astigmatism in both eyes, so contacts and glasses rule my life. I really wish I could get LASIK or something too, but like you, I’m too terrified they’ll screw it up!
Lauren @ The Homeostatic Mindset
This was a fun post! I have one sister, and she is my best friend. I honestly don’t know what I would do without her. I’m a Pisces and it’s pretty much dead on for me too. Ugh, and since my last name letter and first name letter are both L, that’s no fun. I would have to say though that life is not complete without family, laughter and animals. ๐
Jess
That’s a brilliant fact about you – I’m petrified of cars and I can’t drive (I suspect I never will) so I seriously respect you for being so fearless and so skilled when it comes to racing.
Okay, so random facts:
J: July!!! Who the heck would ever pick a month full of snow, ice and hideous weather?
R: Oh, crap. Why did I get reasons to smile? Well, since I have none, I’ll slap on a happy face and just post a smilie instead: ๐
xxx
Khushboo
Ah that’s SO awesome about your hidden automotive talent and passion- l love learning things about people which are so unexpected. You’d be ashamed to know that I am yet to get my license- I started taking lessons but then that just got lazy. You’re motivating to restart them..even if it’s on an automatic car this time round (as opposed to stick)!
I have one older brother and sister- as much as they drive me crazy, I couldn’t imagine life without them :)!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Heehee. I’m kind of ashamed to admit that I went to get my license the morning of my birthday. Before opening presents or having any cake, I was waiting for the registry to open so I could take my test ๐
Catherine
Fellow only child here (& so is my husband, which means we pretty much have to have kids if we want somebody to take care of us when we’re old, ha!).
I don’t put too much weight in astrology, though I do seem to have all of the personality traits of my sign (aquarious). Sometimes it’s fun to read horoscopes, though.
C: cake or pie? Umm…cake, but I love me some pie, too.
Oh…and while I’m not much into racing (despite Nascar being really big in the south), I think it’s so badass you thought about race car driving! My cousin used to (still does?) race & was actually really good at it.
AC
I don’t pay any attention whatsoever to zodiac signs…
A: Love apples! But only granny smith…Got that from my mama ๐ I like gravensteins in applesauce though
C: Cake, especially flourless chocolate cake ๐ but I like pie, too, especially sugar pie
Alyssa @ Road to RD
For some reason the marriage date question reminded me of Miss Congeniality where Cheryl is asked to describe her perfect date and she says April 25th because it’s not too hot, and it’s not too cold. All you need is a light jacket! ๐
Katie @ running4cupcakes
Great – now I am totally hungry for almond butter – love that stuff!
R: reasons to smile – my 14 month old, my puppy Abby, teaching body pump this morning, caramel skim lattes.
C: CAKE!! seriously I love it – it is one of the main reasons I run so much, so I can eat more. ๐
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
๐ That’s as good a reason as any ๐ But the question is… cake or frosting??
Katie @ running4cupcakes
OMG that is such a hard question. .. but I think I would have to go with a really good moist thick chocolate cake. . . My husband loves frosting, maybe even more than me.. . and so it works out for him to eat the frosting and I eat the cake. But the best is cake with a good layer of buttercream frosting. . . drool.
Carly @ Snack Therapy
I don’t believe in astrology at all, but my sign (Virgo) describes me perfectly. It’s kind of weird. And I love that you wanted to be a race car driver! I know nada about cars, but I still find it very cool ;).
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
I loooove this survey — I’ve seen it floating around a few times, I have to try it. I love learning more about my fav bloggers. ๐
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
I love fall, as well. Mainly because (1) winter’s too cold, (2) I have terrible allergies in the spring, and (3) summer’s too hot. I’m picky when it comes to the seasons. ๐ But I love the leaves falling, red and gold and orange everywhere, the cool, crisp air…ahhhh it makes me want fall to come!
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
Loved the survey!
How many brothers and sisters do you have? I have one brother. He’s 2 years younger than me.
Do you put much weight in Zodiacs and horoscopes? No…not at all. I don’t even pay attention to my horoscope.
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I have one brother and one sister. I don’t really follow the Zodiac, but I am a dead ringer for a Leo. Positive and negative qualities.
R: Reasons to Smile…. life. I have a great life and there’s something good in every day to be happy about, even if things don’t go my way. I know that’s basically what you said, but I believe it!
M: Marriage date: None…
Jessie
Survey’s are my favorite! I agree with a lot you had to say… except for the January or July. You see I’m a July baby, so it’d only make sense I’d pick July ๐ ๐
p.s. if you ever become a professional race car driver, can I come to a race… and you autograph a nut butter jar (forget t shirts) for me?
Cori @olivetorun
I feel better now that I see you ultimately agree with me on the January-July argument. ๐ In all seriousness I don’t hate January, I actually like it but it’s only for about 2 days and then I’m over it and ready for July again.
p.s. The fact that you love race cars makes me happy.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
๐ It really is a horrible month… Everyone’s coming off the high of Christmas and in a bad mood because of outstanding credit card bills. Bad planning on my parents’ part…
Lucie
Hey!! Did you forget all about me?? I am your SISTER!! ๐ ๐ just kiddin’…but seriously, I am. The older one. We just got separated, that’s the problem. Now we somehow have to manage to finally meet, and you learning Swiss German and me Polish and a better English. Easy.
I have an older brother. I loved him as a baby (he taught me to walk and protected me), hated him as a Teen (he teased me ALL day and was stronger) and love him now again and forever.
i read horoscopes, but only believe in them when they say something positive. It actually works. Because you believe in it, it happens. Perfect.
Ashley @ OurPersonaRecords
I have two older sisters. I don’t put any weight in horoscopes. I do find that the qualities of an Aquarius are pretty spot on for me. I agree about Fall. It really is my favorite season, but it is bitter sweet because of the winter. But I just love the feel of the cool fall air and all the delicious smells associated with fall.
Megan @ runningonjava
Almond butter is surely the cure for all kitchen disasters. Oh, and my best friend is coffee as well ๐ I love your inspiration board – I have one as well. I find myself highlighting favorite quotes and writing in the margins of books. I can seriously find inspiration anywhere…although the best place is Starbucks, yes?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
#truth. I stand by my “caffeine saturated air” theory.
Molly@This Life Is Sparkling
This survey is so fun. I think I may need to fill it out ๐ And that’s so neat about the race car driver! I always wanted my own junior dragster growing up. My dad still does drag racing and I grew up going to the track to watch him and was always so jealous of the kids who had dragsters.
Sarah @PickyRunner
Ha love these surveys. It’s an easy way to learn more about other bloggers. I’m with you- cake allllllll the way. I don’t really have a favorite day of the week either. I’m pretty indifferent about all of them. Brothers and sisters: 1 brother. Fall is definitely the best season- totally with you on that one. The weather is absolutely perfect!
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
I’m an only child too! I think it makes us more independent because we’re used to doing things on our own.
A- I’m attached to the boyfriend for 7 years now.
B- Best friend would be my dog hehe ๐
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
omg that “oh hey by the way, i almost became a professional race car driver” is the coolest thing EVER. like, ever. what an awesome skill to know how to rebuild an engine- i am a complete mess when it comes to cars, probably why I havent owned one in 7 years and stick to cities i can walk everywhere. and this: “Kids? Iโd love to have some someday. For now, I have a plantโฆ” made me lol. i’m right there with ya ๐
Jo @ Living Mint Green
-I LOVE that you wanted (you still could?!) be a race car driver. That’s awesome. I’ve always wanted to be a unicorn. ๐ ๐ ๐
-My mouth literally dropped when you said you didn’t like apple or pumpkin pie. Amanda, I don’t know if we can recover from this…
-I’m a Cancer, and yeah, I totally identify with my birthday week traits. Courts a Cancer too, and we’re both “the same” yet so different. We’re both quiet homebodies who love pouring our creativity into our home. I’m the more unconventional, down to earth, outspoken of the two, and he’s more artistic, detail oriented and somewhat materialistic. Wow that was a really boring story. Sorry about that! ๐
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
But see, we -can- get past it! Because if we were ever to meet and sit down to dessert, it would mean that there would be more pumpkin and apple pie for you ๐ Me? I’d head straight for the chocolate.
Lisa
Oh hey, we share the same best friend;)
Love that coffee.
I need to get on this survey, I’m always a fan of them.
I have one Sister – who’s younger and I have 4 step Sisters.
And I’m definitely not a huge believe in Zodiac signs, sometimes they can be spot on, but rarely.
