Happy Monday, friends!
I’m not quite ready for this week to begin, but ready or not, here it comes. The weekend went by way too quickly and I’m still feeling a bit groggy from it, so we’re going to forgo fancy intros and proper sentence structure and recap the past couple of days selfie As We Speak style…
As we speak, I’m… not quite ready to speak. It’s 6 AM; I’ve been up since 4; I haven’t had my coffee; and we’re on the road with no java stops in sight…
As we speak, I’m… taking pleasure in some one-on-one time with my coffee and would prefer not to be interrupted…
Enjoy the scenery instead…
… especially since things got ugly fast. Gotta love those winter snowstorms!
As we speak, I’m… gearing up for a day on the slopes and looking rather antisocial, but actually very happy to be out of the car after a very trying 5-hour drive.
As we speak, I’m… thinking about how awkward I feel when I pose for pictures. Also… the snow. It was ridiculous. The visibility was so bad in some parts of the mountain that it was basically like riding blind.
As we speak, I’m… taking selfies while snowboarding, even though you can hardly tell it’s me under all that gear… which is unfortunate because I put it on to protect my face from the cold, but I ended up getting wind burn anyways. I spent a few days sporting a lovely lobster glow.
As we speak, I’m… winning! And the competition was pretty stiff, too. Get it? Ice statues? Stiff? 😉
As we speak, I’m… sneakily pretending not to take a selfie on the way back to town…
… while sneaking some snacks…
As we speak, I’m… not so sneakily taking a selfie in the hotel bathroom…
… before heading out for a night around Banff, which was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday.
As we speak, I’m… awake before the crack of dawn, enjoying the relaxing ambiance of snoring roommates…
… and thinking it wouldn’t be a bad idea to give my bangs a trim…
As we speak, I’m… having yet another moment with my coffee, made more enjoyable by the fact that I’m not sitting in a car and driving through a snowstorm.
As we speak, I’m… out and about in Banff [with my coffee]… [and hat].
We opted out of spending another day on the slopes and explored Banff instead. I would have preferred to do some more boarding, but I was overruled 😡 At least it was pretty…
As we speak, I’m… on my way back home and looking deceptively cheery considering how badly I have to pee. Dang road trips.
But at least it was pretty…
And that’s that. Hope your week is off to a great start!
Are you ready for Monday this week?
Do you need coffee to get going in the morning, or are you fine without it?
Where did you go on the last trip you took?
Alysia @ Slim Sanity
So pretty! But it looks so cold 🙂
I AM ready for Monday… for once. Things are going smoothly! I do coffee or tea every morning. Lately, It’s been mostly tea. Although I did have both this morning. Haha oops!
Hope you have a fab day!
Cassie
so pretty!
Jodi @ underamexicansky.com
Wow, your photos are amazing. What a beautiful part of the world!
Amy@Long Drive Journey
Looks BEAUTIFUL, and for the record, I truly think selfies are a lot less awkward than posing for pictures alone. At least when no one sees you taking the selfie…
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I’m not a fan of snow or the cold but the pictures you have of the mountains are stunning. I’m glad you were able to enjoy some snowboarding even though your face got wind burned through all that gear. I know I would be so bundled up I probably wouldn’t be able to move.
Lauren-Kate
The scenery looks incredible! My Boyfriend trained to be a boarding instructor on his “gap yahhhh” and says we have to go. I really want to try it but I think I would spend most of the time falling over? I am no graceful ballerina… My Dad used to say I was like an elephant… Anyway – I love coffee but I can’t drink it anymore – sends me nuts!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Not gonna lie — the learning curve is STEEP and involves lots of falling over. But it’s not so bad once you get the hang of it 😀
Chelsea
I love the ‘as we speak’ posts 🙂
I’m not a big caffeine drinker, but I do enjoy a warm tea in the morning.
Love the pictures of the mountains.
I was 100% NOT ready for Monday!
Chelsea
Also. Mega proud of you for wearing a helmet. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
<3 I like my head/brain… And reading about all the accidents lately has been giving me the heebie jeebies.
Chelsea
As they should. Preserving brain-meats with helmets is wonderful. Bonus points? They’re mega warm!
Marina @ Lazy for Diet
I actually not big fan of coffee. I really tried to drink it few years ago (in sweet 16 ;)), but I needed so much milk and sugar to muffle bitter smack… Simply not for me. I perfectly manage tea. Though really awakes me only a breakfast 😉
Laura @losingrace
Those pictures look amazing. I am not even human without coffee or some sort of caffeine in the morning. When I do my morning gym sessions a few times a week I look like a zombie walking in, and usually have coffee in my water bottle, (no joke).
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 At least you put yours in a water bottle — I’ve seen people walking around with regular old paper cups from Starbucks or Tim Hortons…
Laura @losingrace
I’ll be honest I have done it before- but usually I put it in my water bottle. Sometimes laziness wins over though :
Laura
This looks awesome, and the scenery is breathtaking!! (As are you, of course!)
I’m glad you enjoyed your trip. It looks like so much fun!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
Love the beautiful photos!
I wouldn’t exactly say I’m “ready” for Monday… It seemed to come all too fast! But, gotta do what ya gotta do, right? 😉 And yes, I definitely need my coffee to get me going in the morning!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye
GORGEOUS views! I love how beautiful the mountains look and glad that you had a good trip :). I went skiing up at Tahoe a few weeks ago and had a blast! It wasn’t nearly as cold as what you’re experiencing, though. Br.
And ahhhhh.. COFFEE. Elixir of life 😉
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
Do we really need to discuss how I handle a morning without coffee? I think it is safe to say that my morning’s must begin with a cup of coffee even though I have always been a total morning person. My body knows when it is missing and I am quite OK with this. lol. I am due for a trip to Florida actually and I am trying to figure out a weekend to go. Too bad your snowboatding doesn’t take place near me in upstate New York – I would totally road trip my way north to say hi!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I have no idea why, but I never seem to make it too far east 🙁 I’ve been wanting to visit NYC -forever- now, and have yet to actually make it out there. BUT… hopefully we’ll still be able to run in to each other at a blogging conference this year 😀
Lucie
Oh girl, I admire you for boarding in this weather. I am such a wimp when it comes to snowy days, I rather sit inside. Not tough enough.
The scenery looks beautiful though!! So do you, as always.
No coffee for this girl 🙂
Heather Murphy
It’s gorgeous and I am glad you had a marvelous time! The beach is about 5 hours from us, so we usually head down a few times a year. I love it, but I would like to mix up our vacations by venturing north.. Maybe next year!
Elise @9toFit.com
Have I expressed to you how jealous I am that you are snowboarding away while I sit at my computer and crunch numbers.. 🙁
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Don’t be jealous because I’m currently trying to play catch up and crunching numbers x2 😕
Emmeline
Looks beautiful! Some days I need coffe, some days I don’t. Today I definitely did.
Last trip I took was to Switzerland 2 weeks ago!
Emma @ Life's A Runner
I can’t believe you made the trip there one day and back the next! I can’t count how many times I’ve done that drive (well…sat in the car while someone else did) and I think I would rip someone’s hair out if I didn’t have at least a little time in between. But that being said, I actually haven’t been to the mountains in YEARS, which shocks me considering how often I used to go. So maybe I wouldn’t mind too much. 😉 Glad you enjoyed, your trip looks like it was so fun!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It definitely makes for a jam packed couple of days, and while I would have loved to go up for longer, real life kind of makes that hard to do 🙁 The drive is definitely brutal though… the one to Jasper is so much prettier.
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
I’m so jealous of your scenery–snow storm or not, the mountains is one of my absolute favorite places to be. And because you don’t have to return to reality today… you lucky person, you. Fun fact: the only reason I recognize the name Banff is because in a season of the Bachelor, they went to Banff National Park. 🙂 Regardless, it looks beautiful!
Sarah
Loved the weekend recap. I’m the worst when it comes to road trips. Not only am I prone to motion sickness, I have to go to the bathroom waaaaaay too often.
I’m ready for Monday. Tonight is improv which I missed last week (darn L.A. traffic!) so I’m in dire need of some fun!
I’ve never been a coffee drinker (the real reason I was forced to leave Seattle.)
Last trip was home to Edmonds for Christmas.
Elizabeth@myneonrunningshoes
Glad you had an awesome weekend girl! It’s crazy to see snow… it was 70 degrees here this weekend and we were in shorts! Enjoy!
Ksenija @ With An Open Mind
Love this “as we speak”-format and lady, I don’t know how you do that: always when I’m planning to take a day of selfies, I tend to forget it after my first cup of coffee and remember when I am back home. Thumbs up for that. Also, looks like a pretty awesome weekend trip. Do you always have to go this far if you wanna go boarding?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
If I want to go to the mountains, then yes — at least 3.5 hours. We have a couple of local hills here in the city, and while I’ll go to get rid of the boarding itch, it’s nowhere near as enjoyable as being up in the mountains.
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
So fun and so many gorgeous photos! The scenery looks beautiful! Love the look of that town too. It looks so quant.
This weekend did go by exceptionally fast! I was definitely not ready to come back to work. I could have used another day for sure! Well, at least next weekend is a long one – yay for Martin Luther King Day!
Kim@hungryhealthygirl
Wow that snow and what amazing scenery! That town looks really cute too. Hope you had a great time! The last road trip I took was to the beach in Florida and was a blast. Have a great week, Amanda!
Mary Frances
You are good at sneaky selfies! (practice, huh? 😉 The scenery is gorgeous! The mountains are incredibly beautiful AND fun to ski/snowboard on. Coffee is always the first thing I have when I get up. After that, I’m good to go … until about 1:00 and then I need another one. Love Starbucks!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You just have to pretend that you’re texting… or that you’re taking a shot of some scenery 😉 That being said, there are definitely times where I don’t aim properly and end up cutting off half my head…
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green
Ah looks like so much fun and the scenery is gorgeous! I went to Banff a few years ago and loved every second of my trip. I was there in the summer though, would love to come back in the winter!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s gorgeous in the summer, but it’s -so- cozy in the winter. They still had most of their Christmas decorations up too, which made it feel like the most adorable Christmas village. A little chilly though 😆
Caitlyn@BareBalance
Ugh – the mountains look absolutely beautiful.
So not ready for this week, three poors sleeps due to high winds in Nova Scotia – ew. I also had way too much coffee this morning, so I am in over-load! Sometimes I just can not seem to get enough o’ that sweet nectar of life.
Diana @sosmallsostrong
Hey Amanda!
As we speak… I am jealous of your trip! It looks absolutely beautiful up there. I don’t need coffee to wake up but I WANT coffee always!
I feel like my last trip was Mexico during my summer vacation. Which makes me feel like I need to get trip planning! Have a wonderful day. 🙂
Ms.J
The snow storm seems so terrifying in a mesmerisingly beautiful way. And Baniff looks amazing! Love these posts :D, always gets me grinning . I’m positive no one can do a selfie as well as you! You’ve really got me itching to travel to a snowy place… snowboarding looks so fun. Tricky I’m sure?
I don’t necessarily need coffee in the AM, but I have to get it at some point in the day.
Last trip was to Cape Town <3
Davida @ The Healthy Maven
You are so damn adorable! I’m super awks in pics too. My poor Dad had to do a photoshoot with me in the gym on Saturday and I legit made him take 40 pics until one didn’t look awks.
Still haven’t been to Banff! Need.to.go!
Also I pee every 5 mins on roadtrips. No one wants to go with me….
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
YES YOU DO! Or at least come to Edmonton and we’ll take a road trip to Banff… even if we have to stop every 5 mins 😉
Shashi @ http://runninsrilankan.com
Gosh Amanda – that’s sooooo much snow! But, looking at it from behind a computer, it sure is beautiful!
I NEED coffee as soon as I wake up – 1 -2 cups of water and then coffee! and more coffee if the first one didn’t work its magic! I don’t remember the last time I was ready for Monday…but maybe with another cup of coffee 😉
Last trip my daughter and I took was to Charleston and Isle of Palms in South Carolina – spent loads of time on the beach and walked around exploring a ton and decided thats where we need to move to – some day!
Thanks for helping me travel to and thru Banff with you through your pictures – love the selfies!
Hope you have a wonderful day, gorgeous lady!
Danica @ It's Progression
so many gorgeous pictures!
And I actually cannot stand the taste (or smell!) of coffee, so it’s certainly not a part of my morning. I really wish I did like it though!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I used to be like that as well, and then university happened 😆 I started out basically drinking milk with a teeny amount of coffee, and somehow worked my way up to being able to drink it straight up black. It’s definitely more of an acquired taste tho!
Megan @ Meg Go Run
Wow, gorgeous! My last trip… Ocean City NJ and Atlantic City hehe.
Hayley@healthyregards
I am so ready for Monday this week, check my blog to day for my motivational monday post if you need it (: I NEED my coffee int the morning, literally cannot function without it
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Coffee = YES. In a bad, bad way. And I feel you on the posing for photos, especially in full-on ski/boarding gear! I always feel like a marshmallow puff and look ridiculous in those photos 😉 Looks like you had a very gorgeous weekend – “Happy” Monday 😉
Carly @ Snack Therapy
I sure hope you made it home safely and soundly. That winter weather is no joke! You really need to teach me how to snowboard. Or maybe I’ll just ski, because it’s wayyyy easier.
Hell no I’m not ready for Monday. Nope nope nope. It’s 5am here and I’m trying really hard to start my day off with a positive mindset, but I’m having a rough time.
Alex @ therunwithin
I kind of love when you post so many hilarious pictures – plus that snow and scenery is unreal. I am still terrified of all things snow sport related but you can take over in that game.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That’s okay — you’ve still got me beat on the running front!
Sarah @pickyrunner
I love ski/board trips, lobster glow and all. Those mountains look amazing, I bet it was much less icy than it is over on the east coast after all the rain we got 🙂
Jen @ SavedbytheKale
Looks like you had a fun weekend! Banff looks like a neat place to explore.
As far as coffee is concerned, well it is the first thing I think of when I wake up so if for some reason I am not able to have it then you probably do not want to be around me! 🙂
Ashley @ Kick Ash Mom
That looks like so much fun! My bf and I are talking about taking a trip to Colorado next year to snowboard. I’ve never been but really want to!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Colorado is gorgeous! I’ve never been snowboarding there, but I drove through a couple of times and fell in love.
Alex @ Kenzie Life
Blogger meetup in Colorado! 🙂 I live about an hour away from great skiing/snowboarding but sadly I’m an embarrassment to all native Coloradans because I don’t ski
Ashley @ Kick Ash Mom
I’m totally down!
