Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. I never thought I’d say this after the 90’s, but I really need a scrunchie. Really, really. I like to keep my hair up in a messy pony/bun whenever I’m at home because I can’t stand having hair in my face, but I’ve noticed a little bit of breakage higher up on my hair where the elastic goes, and I’ve heard that scrunchies are supposed to reduce that. Do they even sell them anymore? I need to look into this.
2. Another thing I haven’t done since the 90’s? Painted my nails black. Okay, so it was probably the early 00’s, but it’s been a good handful of years regardless. Not too sure why I stopped – I love the way it looks.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, this is Essie’s gel couture in Hang Up The Heels.
3. Please tell me I’m not the only one who always seems to have the FedEx or UPS guy show up at the most inopportune time. It’ll either be when I step out for 10 minutes after waiting all day, or when I’m in the middle of something. Yesterday, he came while I was doing my makeup. I had one eyebrow on… and the doorbell rang. And it’s not like I could have just haphazardly pencilled the second one in – that shit takes time! So yeah… I opened the door probably looking all sorts of crazy, but I couldn’t exactly ignore him because he had my favourite Hot Cinnamon Spice tea.*
4. Speaking of eyebrows, when did they become such a huge thing? I definitely didn’t do anything with mine prior to a few years back, but now I’ll fill them in even if I don’t do anything with the rest of my face. And I just keep going bolder and bolder.
5. Back to the 90’s and my favourite Disney movie of all time -> please tell me you’ve seen the trailer for the new Beauty and the Beast movie coming out in March. The music at the beginning gets me every.single.time.
6. And speaking of music, you NEED to listen to this remix of The Weeknd’s Starboy. You’re welcome.
7. It’s come to my attention that I need to get my butt out to Bux and take part in some holiday cup action. Have you seen the new cups? They did good after the disappointment that was the plain red ones from last year. I also think I need a cappuccino after 3 months of nothing but instant coffee.

8. And last but not least, we have this month’s Ipsy* bag. I seriously love this thing and can’t believe how much mileage I get from each of the products.
9. Have a happy Thursday, friendly faces! Sorry for ending things on an odd number 😜

Black nails. Black glasses. Dark hair. Classic black jacket you always wear. Black lululemons. Black heart. I mean black jelly beans.
I hope the next time fedex comes, you are wearing your mumu.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
1. I am still working through the stuff from my Birchboxes and my subscription ended in June. You get a lot of mileage from those little tubes.
2. I’d love to see the new Beauty and the Beast movie.
3. I’ve had the FedEx guy show up when I was nursing Ave. Thankfully, 98% of the packages I receive don’t need to be signed for and he just left it on the porch.

I like ending things on odd numbers.
I haven’t gotten a red cup yet either but I’m heading there to write later today.

Scrunchies are back! I see them popping up everywhere here! I don’t know whether or not it’s a good or bad thing…. Like the choker trend…. Should we wear these things second time around!?!
I’m not 100% convinced about Emma Watson as Belle… There is just something not quite right for me. But I will see the movie and I hope it’s good as I treasure the original.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually think she fits pretty well, but it’s Beast I’m not too crazy about. And I don’t think I could do chokers again even if they do come back 😆
Chelsea's Healthy Kitchen
I started filling in my eyebrows in the past few years too and I’ve noticed it makes such a difference, especially since I have such naturally light coloured eyebrows. I waffle between which products I use. I started with Benefit’s eyebrow filler but I would go through it in like a month, so then I switched to Maybelline’s but I haaaaated their brush, so now I’m onto MAC’s. Might go back to Benefit’s though because I find it the easiest to apply. What do you use?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I really like most of Anastasia’s brow products. I used her Dipbrow for a long time, and I really liked it and found that it lasted forever, but the only downside is that you have to apply it with a brush. NYX has a great eyebrow pencil, and I found the one from L’Oreal works pretty well too as far as drugstore goes.
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass
Haha, I rocked black nail polish hard in 7th grade, ya know, ’cause I was a rebel. Now, I still do it, except I’m “trendy”. FINE BY ME!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Lol funny how that works, eh? Black nails seem to be a lot more “high fashion” now.
Lindsey @ livinglovingrunner
I always need a scrunchie…I found that putting my hair in a braid breaks my hairs too… 🙁 I haven’t been someone that could ever pull off black (or dark) nail polish. I love the variety of the Starbucks cups this year! I really could care less what color they are as long as they keep my coffee warm 🙂
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy
My husband doesn’t understand why someone who doesn’t actually “work” can’t just always be at home to wait on a packaged that needs a signature. Um, because I still have a life? And you like to eat? And the dogs need to be walked?
So yesterday I knew that there was one coming, went out for a run with Bandit, and saw UPS heading towards our house. Then coming back. Then stopping. I actually asked if he had the package, and wouldn’t you know my husband had come home early for a business phone conference and had already signed for it!
Alaina @ thesimplepeach
Yes yes yes to black nails and scrunchies! I recently bought some on Amazon. I use them when I’m at home and when I sleep. They really help my hair from creasing so I can get another day out of it. Dirty hair don’t care…sometimes. 🙂
Megan
I cannot stand my hair in my face either but I too am noticing the breakage in my hair.. Scrunchies definitely need to come back into style. 😉 I’m going to keep my eye out for them.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
A few people have said that they’re actually starting to show up everywhere. Even Lululemon has them, apparently.
Bethany (Lulu)
Haha, I love the eyebrow story, it seems like that always happens to me too! I’ve answered the door with a wet head, half of my makeup on, and in my pajamas (and my pajamas aren’t those picture perfect adorable ones lol.) I agree too, I don’t know when it became “normal” to pluck, fill, and trim eyebrows, but if I don’t do it often, I feel like a gorilla. 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I know! I don’t even understand people who wear picture perfect PJs. Mine are pretty much the scrubbiest, comfiest clothes I own.
amanda -runtothefinish
My hair can break easily due to the hormone imbalances, so they told me to just keep changing where I put my ponytail and if I can leave ti down at home to do so. I think that’s helped!
Jo @ Living Mint Green
Scrunchies are back IN. I’ve seen them everywhere lately. Even lululemon carries them!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
Winter break goals: figure out how to do my eyebrows without looking crazy. I love thicker ones, and mine aren’t *bad*, but I want to play with them. Also, I’m going to admire your nails from afar. Mine grow so nicely but I cannot stand to live with them once they grow past my fingertips. 🙈
I am SO excited for Beauty and the Beast. It comes out right at the end of finals week and right after my 21st birthday and I will sooo be seeing it over spring break.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Long nails can definitely be a pain in the butt. I can handle having mine long for a little while, and then I start to feel a major itch to cut them since they make everything (even typing) a little bit harder. And definitely experiment with your brows! They can change the shape of your face so much.
Emily Swanson
The Starbucks cups are SO PRETTY! 🙂 And I used scrunchies a lot when I was younger; they were my favorite kind of ‘ponytail.’ And I know what you mean by the Fedex or UPS man coming at odd times. They usually come when we’re having family Bible time; so we just let them leave the package on the porch. 😀
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m always afraid that they’re going to leave me a note telling me to come pick up my package the next day! Sometimes they leave it, and then sometimes I have to go get it. I can never call it.
Shashi at RunninSrilankan
Amanda, scrunched are alive and well… buried deep in the aisles of Walmart… and I think I even saw some at the dollar store the other day! They sure work well for me too… especially when I forget and sleep with one! Unlike an elastic band, I don’t wake up with extra tangles when I have a scrunched on.
I’ve gotta get to Bucks aND redeem my free drink…in one of those gorgeous cups! Did y’all have the green unite cups there? They lasted for a hot minute here in Atlanta b4 they disappeared. Happy Tol-ing Thursday, sweet friend!
Shashi at RunninSrilankan
Stoopid spell chk, scrunched = scrunchies
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh that’s great to know! I’ll have to go hunt some down then. And I actually haven’t been to Bux in so long, so I didn’t see the green cup. I heard people were upset about it, though?
Jen Rawson, RD (@PrettyLilGrub)
Scrunchies are the best for at home hair! You can get them at Ardenes for super cheap. I have a neon orange one – it’s super hot. 😉
I am so excited for Beauty and the Beast, it’s my favourite Disney movie too.
mary
Lululemon now sells a scrunchie (with reflective details no less) so I’ll bet you will soon be seeing them everywhere.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha no kidding!? Well that’s good to know, I guess.
AnneL
I hear you! I had just got my hair in the process of coloring and Fedex dropped by! so I had to put a towel (yuck a towel) around my head. at least he didn’t see the color! and I had an old t-shirt and flannel bottoms! what a great picture that made!
Denise
Beauty And The Beast has been and probably always will be my favorite movie. I remember as a child, family members had to take turns taking my 6 year old self to go see it because my parents got tired of taking me. The Broadway version was pretty epic as well, so I know not to let the two movies compete for my heart. (lol) I was stoked to find out Alan Menken was going to be apart of this with new songs as well. I’m a 31 year old child lol.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I can pretty much say ditto to everything you said. I mean… you should see my collection of Disney movies 😛
Kat
When done right I absolutely love black nail polish. Obviously it chips easy and then looks raged but freshly painted? I don’t think there is any other polish that looks as chic. I love going black 😉
And THANK GOODNESS someone talked some sense it Bux. What the frick does a solid red cup say? NOTHING! Spread holiday cheer with some freaking designs people!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Have you tried the Essie gel couture polishes? I get insane wear out of it. Like I’ve had my black polish on for 5 days so far and no chips at all.
Heather @ Polyglot Jot
Ive seen scrunchies at random clothes stores still! Cant say I’ve bought any in many years, but I’ve seen them! I actually think they’re coming back in style as the norm for hair and i find that so weird! I’m so excited for Beauty and the Beast!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Fashion is funny like that, eh? Next thing you know, bellbottoms and huge hair will be back in style.
Catherine @ A Cup of Catherine
I used to have a matching scrunchie to all of my outfits and leotards (gymnastics). Not going to say I miss them…but maybe a little?
Love the black nail polish and the new Bux cups. Yay, Christmas! 🙂
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
They definitely still make scrunchies, I’m seeing them pop up everywhere! I’ve had Starboy on repeat so I’m definitely going to check out the remix version!
Jess @ Keeping It Real Food
I laughed out loud over your eyebrow comment. Even though I don’t *think* mine have changed, all of a sudden this month I’m bothered by even the slightest patchinesss and asked my sister for eyebrow pencil recs since she’s way better at all that beauty stuff than I am. I’m a swipe of black liner, mascara, red lipstick, and out the door type. I’m learning…
And OMG—that hot cinnamon spice tea has been my favorite for a few years. I get cranky when my supply starts running low.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right?! I think I’ve had at least 1 cup a day since I first found it about… 7ish years ago? Lol I literally order like 10 bags at once.
Emily @ My Healthyish Life
I laughed at your eyebrows comment. I’ve become somewhat of an eyebrow snob and want mine very thick. So weird…Speaking of the 90’s, that was NOT the style back then.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right?! Back then it was these pencil thin brows, and I’m betting that people who over-plucked back then are regretting it now.
Rachel @ athleticavocado
Haha I’m all about those scrunchies since I need them to hold up my hair during gymnastics! But let’s be honest, I wear them when I’m not doing gymnastics too 🙂
Rachel
I still wear (never stopped wearing) scrunchies for that exact reason. And I never stopped wearing black nail polish either! Lol
Our UPS guys in the states don’t wait for someone to come to the door. Half the time they don’t even knock or ring the bell. What’s up with that?
Thanks for the linkup!
kaci cheeseman
That is an excessive amount of Starbucks cup options! I think you have a point about the relation to the boring red cups last year… I wonder if they are trying to make it up to the consumers or to the designer(s)!!
The irony is, research shows that the more options we have, the less satisfied we tend to be with our decision.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Because we always think there was a better option than what we got? I could definitely see that being a thing.
Katie
I have curly hair that breaks SO EASILY. I’m always trying to do something to limit the damage. One thing I can’t recommend enough is sleeping with a satin pillowcase. Feels luxurious and is so much easier on your hair! And literally just two days ago I bought a scrunchie at the Dollar Tree so I can “pineapple” my curls at night. So they do make them and you can get them for cheap, always a plus!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That’s great to know. And I’ve heard good things about satin pillowcases… not only for hair, but it’s supposed to be great for your skin as well.
Susie @ SuzLyfe
My hair is always in a ponytail at night. I started doing that when I was in grade school at the advice of my stylist because I would get so many knots. ANd I”m sure I used a scrunchie back then.
BTW, my link isn’t being accepted because it is saying I don’t have a backlink in there. Which is dumb, because you know that I do! JSYK http://suzlyfe.com/dont-give-up-inspiration/
Susie @ SuzLyfe
Nevermind, it finally went through!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Sorry lady! No idea why it does that to some people’s links. But I try to go through it regularly and get people out of the queue.
michele @ paleorunningmomma
Oh yeah there are scrunchies around here. Then again I DO live in NJ so maybe they never left 🙂 Now I feel like I don’t do enough to my eyebrows. My eyebrows and nails are way neglected.
Hollie
I actually sleep with my hair in a scrunchie as well. I find it keeps it from being as knotty in the morning.
meredith @ cookie chrunicles
I sleep with my hair in my islanders scrunchie which is totally from the early 90’s!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m impressed that you still have it! I have no idea what happened to all of mine.
