Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Is anyone else having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit this year? I know we’re still a good 3 weeks away, and that there’s lots of time left for the holly-jolly to kick in, but I feel like it usually hits me by now… and this year? Not so much. Heck, I haven’t even busted out my tree or the majority of my decorations yet ? Instead, I’ve been laxly putting up one thing here, another things there… which means that I should have everything done by Christmas Eve ?
2. I have, however, been keeping up with my Advent calendar from David’s Tea, and despite only being a few days in, I can already tell you that I love it so much more than the simple chocolate ones that I used to get. Why? Because the calendar itself is designed super well and feels really nice with all the sturdy boxes and little individual tea tins…
… But more importantly, because the tea is delicious, and I like that I can enjoy it for so much longer instead of it being over in one bite. It’s such a nice way to wind down at night.
3. Update on the missing Life Planner package that I mentioned last week! I got in contact with Erin Condren, and they [promptly] got back to me saying that FedEx apparently misplaced my package in one of their shipping facilities, and that they’ll update me when they find it. That was last Friday and I still haven’t heard anything new ? I’m really hoping it shows up [in my hands] soon, because I would love to do a review for you guys before the end of the year… especially since there are a few awesome changes in next year’s edition that are worth mentioning. In the meantime, you can check out my 2015 review here…
4. … while I stock up on fun planner decorating supplies. It seriously is an obsession, you guys; and I swear that getting creative and making my planner look all nice makes it easier to stay organized and get things done. Plus it’s just plain relaxing and enjoyable.
Anywho, I had a little bit of time to kill between appointments the other day, so I stopped by Michael’s to see what kind of new things they had in stock, and fell in love with a few of the things I found there. First up are these sticker sheets from The Happy Planner, which just so happen to fit perfectly in the Erin Condren planner as well…
To Do Stickers || Happy Sticky Notes || Get It Done Quote Stickers
And I also snagged some scrapbook paper (60% off, yo!) which has some adorable patterns to cut and paste. Spoons is getting crafty…
5. Unfortunately, I haven’t really had the same kind of luck when it comes to finding a new desk ? I’m currently in the process of setting up a new workspace at home, and I’m looking for a desk to go in this little window nook here…
Nothing too bulky so that it doesn’t cover up too much of my window, but something that feels sturdy enough to sit and work at… #highmaintenance. It’s been surprisingly difficult, and I was going to just default to a simple glass top from IKEA, but the dimensions are all wrong. The struggle is real, my friends.
6. In other news, I’ve discovered a foolproof way to tell if your avocado is ripe without cutting into it — drop it on the floor! If it stays in tact and maybe even bounces back a little bit, you should probably give it a few more days. But if it bursts open and splatters all over? You’ve got yourself a winner!***
(*** I “discovered” this on accident, and do not actually recommend trying it at home ?)
7. And because I’ve rambled long enough, I’m going to end things on lucky number 7. I hope you’re having a fantastijazzical day, and I’ll see you on Saturday with some tasty food!
No questionsβ¦ just tell me whatever comes to your mind! π

Bahahahaha the avocado made me laugh out loud!
I feel you on the desk issue. I still struggle with my setup
Omg! I went to a David’s tea for the first time while in Vancouver last month. AMAZING PLACE!! Super jealous of the advent calendar π
Anyways. Sorry for the random pop – in. Just thought I’d come say hi!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thanks for popping in, lady! <3 Missed seeing your face around the blog world -- hope you're doing well!
Arman @ thebigmansworld
omg lol! I thought the NOEL on your door was the Yves Saint Laurent insignia. I need coffee…number 2. I hope the planner comes today!
Heather @Fit 'N' Cookies
SO funny but we just discovered that trick too. Aaron dropped the avocado on the floor and it opened, so I checked it out and it was perfect! Good luck with the desk search. We ended up making mine because I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted.

So…I take it you wouldn’t recommend me going to the store and bouncing avocados off the floor there to see which ones are ripe? π
I sure hope you misplaced package shows up – is there a time frame? This Christmas, packages have been taking longer than usual here – now would be a good time to buy stock in the postal bizness! π
Hope you have a wonderful weekend Amanda!
xx
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape
Ah you know where I am at with the holly jolly’s! Putting our tree up this weekend so I hope that helps… Even our advent calendars aren’t doing much (although I am enjoying a little choccy every morning π )
Your tea calendar sounds amazing! Last year we had a Yankee candle one with little tealighs in it – so amazing! And the house always smelt so festive!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve seen those little candle ones in YouTube videos (lol?), but never in person. That would definitely be an awesome way to make things more festive.

I love me some Erin Condren! Was literally so bummed when they discontinued their jumbo desk calendar. It was my life. Now I resort to using their life planner with loads of washi tape! Just found your blog, and love it!

Brittany
I hope you were able to salvage some of that avocado!! HA. I’ve actually been listening to Christmas music on repeat, but other than that I haven’t done much in the spirit of the season. I’m not even a huge fan of this years Christmas Blend at Starbucks!! I preferred Thanksgiving Blend, and last year it was the total opposite!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
5 second rule π And is the Christmas blend this year different? Because I loved it last year so I’d be bummed if they changed it!
Brittany
Well…yes AND no. The blends aren’t changed, however each year is a little bit different due to crop growing (temps, locations, picking, etc…), but overall no..the blend is not different. In fact had I not said anything you might not have ever known, but I detected a less full body and it wasn’t as smooth to me this year. hahaa. I’ll still drink it though.
Ganeeban
I’m literally laughing out loud at my phone about #6! I’ll send some decorating vibes your way, since I’m all done π I love
Planners, but never see them through. They are so cute and I love how you can get so organized, I just get lazy and my phone is so convenient! Oh well, I’ll live vicariously through yours! Xoxo, ganeeban
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually started getting a little lax with mine for a while there, and then I accidentally happened across some planner decorating videos on YouTube and got sucked in all over again.
Emily @ Out and About
I’m not in the holiday spirit this year, either. I don’t think I’ve found the spirit since before I went to college, since our finals were in December. There was no time to focus on the holidays until after finals, and by then it was too late!
LOL on the avocado dropping on the floor trick. I’ve done that a few times, myself, and it does work!
Miss Polkadot
Oh, I hear you on the missing holiday spirit. It’s – much to my pleasure – a lot warmer than a year ago and that already makes a huge difference for me. We also haven’t gotten out the decorations yet and I don’t have an advent calendar. I may or may not be jealous of yours. Especially because I agree a non-chocolate one that offers longer lasting pleasure is much nicer. I had my heart set on an organic spice calendar but the store didn’t have it.
Fingers crossed for your life planner delivery! I’m currently waiting for a package, too, and getting a bit annoyed.
Kaila@HealthyHelperBlog
No lie, I saw a smushed whole avocado all over the side walk on my way home today! I poured out a little of my kombucha for it….HAHA! But seriously, who would waste a perfectly good avocado!? π
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
I LOVED my advent calendar from David’s Tea two years ago. Then they didn’t have any when I went this year. I did just go today though and get a soy eggnog latte made w cardamom French toast tea. It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever had.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh.my.GOD. That sounds incredible. Definitely need to ask for that the next time I go in.
Mattie
I thought it was just me with the Christmas spirit! Christmas music is making me kinda happy, but that’s it. I got our little fake tree out on Sunday and then realized the lights and some of the ornaments are at my parents’ and I’m not as devastated about this boring, unfestive, blank tree sitting there. My old stocking hooks also don’t work on our new fireplace and I thought I’d be depressed about them not being up too but nah.
That tea advent calendar is an awesome idea!
Jade
Dropping an avocado on the floor is actually a good idea to see if its ripe as long as it isn’t. lol
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
!! True story. Ahh well… most of it -kind of- stayed together, so at least it was still edible. 5 second rule π
Kate B
A tea Advent calender?! How cool! I never would’ve thought of that.
Also, I haven’t really bought avocados b/c I’m too scared of what I might get in the inside.
rachel @ athletic avocado
A tea advent calendar??? what!? Every year my Mom gets me the same kind with waxy-like chocolate and I never eat the chocolate because it’s not real but she still gets it anyways because it’s a tradition lol! I agree that Christmas is coming wayyyyy too fast! I feel like fall just started!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I used to get the waxy chocolate kind as well, mostly because they were the only chocolate ones I could find that were peanut-free. But it was horrible because I’d eat the chocolate and then just want more π
Shannon
I haven’t gotten into the Christmas spirit all that much either! Which is weird because usually it hits me right after thanksgiving!
Lynda@fitnessmomwinecountry
I think we are in the spirit of Christmas, but we get the tree this weekend. Maybe that will help. I keep things pretty simple so not to clutter the house. I have been looking for a new desk for my work area also. Something pretty, simple and not bulky.
Heather
Haha, I got so excited when I saw that you posted a tip to see if an avocado is ripe. If only there was a foolproof method. I get it wrong way too often!
Ange @ Cowgirl Runs
Wow, Erin Condren’s solution is to wait and see if FedEx finds it?! I’m so angry for you. I’d expect them to rush ship one out to you ASAP because those suckers aren’t cheap. I have a major love-hate relationship with EC. They’re pretty, but suuuuuper expensive, and their shipping/customer service can sometimes suck.
I hope it finds it’s way to you soon!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
They ended up not being able to find it :/ So they’re sending me a new one and expediting it. Hopefully it doesn’t get stuck in Memphis again π‘
