Gush. You guys sure do know how to make a girl blush π Thank you for all of the sweet comments you left on my last post. And Kaiah thanks you as well. A few of you asked what breed of dog she is, and the answer to that question is actually one that I’d love to know myself. Unfortunately, I have no idea…
She’s a mixie that we picked up at the local shelter when she was just a tiny little thing, and she came in as part of a litter of stray pups so the shelter wasn’t able to tell us anything about her, either. We’re thinking she probably has some shepherd, husky, elkhound, and border collie in her, though. Out of 5 pups, one other had the same looks as Ky, and the other 3 were black and white like a collie. They were also named after candy bars… Snickers, Hershey, Reese, Mars, and my little Aero…
That’s baby Ky’s mug shot!
Strange that I can usually barely even remember what happened yesterday, but I have no problem recalling random & useless info from 8 years ago π― And while we’re on the topic of yesterday…
… the date …
You guys wanted the deets, and I’m more than happy to oblige. Unfortunately, I’m less than happy with how it went – it was actually somewhat of a disappointment. Like opening a new tub of non-expiredΒ yogurt only to find that your morning snack has already been colonized by microbes….
… but maybe not as gross as that….
Actually, definitely not as gross as that *gag*. Thank goodness I had a Plan B…
Banana bread, apple sauce, cream cheese, caramel pudding.
… which is something that I reallyΒ could have used last night.
Not the snack; the Plan B.
Anyways, it wasn’t a terrible experience compared to some of first date horror stories that I’ve heard, and I didn’t need to pull out the mace or pepper spray or anything [note: I don’t actually carry mace in my purse], but it wasn’t all together enjoyable, either. Here’s how it went down…
We started off the night by meeting up at a coffee shop so that we could sit and chat for a while, and when I say chat, what I really mean is that he talked at me and I pretended to listen; but if I’m being completely honest, after 15 minutes my mind began to wander, and after 30 I was desperately trying to come up with an escape plan – all I could think of was “please God, get me out of here and I’ll be forever good…“
Good like this song that I’m currently obsessed with…
Good like unashamedly continuing to eat breakfast multiple times a day…
Lunch: vanilla tofu protein pudding; Greek yogurt with cereal and trail mix
But I digress… back to the date.
I don’t mean to sound prissy, but you don’t know what I was dealing with – I don’t think I’ve ever met a guy who liked to listen to the sound of his own voice as much as this one did. I admit that I’m not the chattiest person, but I do like to be included in a conversation and talked TO instead of talked AT.
And randomly name-dropping all of your friends? Not cool. I’m sorry, but I really don’t care if Jimmy scored the winning goal in your grade 6 Little League game and you all went to Chuck E Cheese’s to celebrate. Who the hell is Jimmy, anyways? Is he cute and single? If not, got any friends that are?
I’m pretty low-maintenance and a pro in the kitchen…
Quinoa, brocc, and shrooms with an egg scrambled in; topped with feta and nooch.
… or at least I like to think that I am…
Needless to say, it wasn’t a great time and I ended the night early. We were supposed to go somewhere else after, but I just wasn’t feeling it so I told him I didn’t feel well and headed home. Hey, it wasn’t a completeΒ lie – bored and disappointed don’t exactly qualify as “feeling well” in my books.
So my date night was pretty much a flop, but I’m glad I went anyways because you never know unless you try. Mr. Right is out there somewhere, and I’ll find him when the time is right. For now, maybe I still need more time to focus on myself before I can get involved with someone else. So that’s what I’ll do π
. – . – . – .
What really turns you off in a person of the opposite sex?Β Nothing sends me running faster than a self-absorbed horndog who doesn’t know when to shut up and listen. Oh, and bad breath or B.O.
Any first date horror stories to share?

It’s heartening to see platforms https://www.doulike.com/jewish-senior-dating.html and services dedicated to helping Jewish seniors connect with like-minded individuals who share their cultural background, values, and traditions. Building relationships in your golden years can bring a sense of joy and fulfillment, and Jewish senior dating provides a tailored approach to make that happen. It’s a wonderful opportunity for older Jewish adults to create new bonds and celebrate their heritage together.

Ahh..the classic, how to get out of a bad date. I am sorry you had to suffer through that…I have had some pretty bad and funny ones.
I once went sailing and I was helping the guy take the mast down and he accidentally dropped the mast on my head….that was pretty rough, I felt sooooo light headed!
Marissa
Aww, sorry about the cruddy date! I’ve yet to successfully meet a guy I like either. My mom keeps telling me my complete lack of interest in boys is unnatural… but she doesn’t KNOW the boys I hang out with! If she did, she would see why I have so little interest in that sorta thing. Haha.
Tessa at Amazing Asset
Blehhh being talked AT is the worst! I’m sorry it turned out to be a poop time, at least you got out there m’dear π
Jenn
Yucky story! My worst is when a guy started telling me how much had to eat in one day, how many calories he normally ate, his highest and lowest weight for over an hour of the date. He knew I struggled with ed issues, so I guess he thought we had that in common to talk about. I immediately left!
vegan aphrodite
Im sorry your date didnt turn out to be the best one.. But what a story π It made me smile so much! And im sure youll be out there dating again in no time- you are too beautiful (and too funny :)) not to!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin
I totally had that same thing happen to me with non-expired Liberte yogurt! Only… I was an idiot and took a giant spoonful of it before I looked down and saw the mould. It was disgusting!!!
Sorry the date was a dud! π I would have ended it early too, from the sounds of it. I hate self absorbed guys! Also I’m really turned off by smokers… I could NEVER date one!
Lauren
First dates can always be well….awkward!! ahh well the right one will come along! never fear π I like the brocoli and quinoa recipe! but haha whats a nooch? my blog lingo is still in the baby stages..well maybe toddler haha
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Nooch is short for nutritional yeast π
Lauren
Oh no!! Sorry about the bad date π Maybe he was just nervous? Or really did just like the sound of his own voice. Either way he doesn’t deserve your time. If it makes you feel better, on my first date with Joey he took me to a Rockies game (surprise surprise) and as we were walking to our seats he said “I hope I see some bangin’ babes here today.” Really now? I think he forgot I was his date and not his guy friend for a second. What was I thinking by giving him another chance?? π
Rachel
Sorry about the unfortunate first date! Your dog is adorable though <3!
My worst date was definitely a month ago. A guy I had been talking to surprised me with a picnic. It sounds like the start of a really sweet, amazing cute date, right? Well first of all, even though we had been talking for a while, and he definitely knew I was a vegetarian, he had packed NOTHING vegetarian except fruit salad. I really really politely told him I didn't eat meat, and then he decided to spend the rest of the afternoon talking about how "God made animals for eatin'!"
kissmybroccoli
Omg have I got a story for you! Ok so I got divorced in August and although I wasn’t sure if I was ready to get into dating, in January I allowed a friend from work to hook me up with somebody. He had tickets to a Predators game in Nashville and I’m sorry but, a hockey game? with killer seats? for free? SIGN ME UP!!
Ugh, I should have called it quits before the night even got started. In the 5 minutes it took for me to grab my coat and purse and walk with him out to his truck, he must’ve dropped the “F” bomb like 8 times!! Who does that on a first date?! THEN we get to the hockey game and he spends 90% of the time starring at ME!! I was like, “um do I have something on my face or something?” and he would just say, “no, you’re just gorgeous”…oh and if that couldn’t get any more uncomfortable, how about his actual words were, “no, you’re just so GD gorgeous” WTF?!!?
The car ride back was pure agony. I finally HAD to say something about the cursing and then he looked at me and was like, “oh are you…like, Christian or something?” Um, yeah I am, but what’s it to ya…NOBODY curses that much that isn’t currently residing on an Naval ship!
We ended the night with an awkward hug and just before I (almost literally) pushed him out the door, he had nerve enough to grab my a$$! Yeah, needless to say I haven’t been on a date since…I’m kinda scarred! π
Tasha @ Voracious
What a cute pup! Such a kissy face, I think.
Sorry to hear about your date. I agree with you about self-obsessed turds. I cannot STAND that. The reason I fell so quickly and madly in love with my husband is because he is truly the kindest, most genuine, and gentle man I have ever met. *swoon*
And yuck about your yogurt. But your plan b looks delicious!
Jessy (squeezetheday)
Ah, I’m sorry to hear your date didn’t go well. But you’re right – at least you gave it a try! Big turn offs for me are conceitedness and drunkenness.
Sara @ Learning to Live
Oh, awkwardddd.
My worst was very similar… we met up for coffee to chat & stuff & planned on catching a film afterwards, but he genuinely- no joke- started talking about how many girls he’d had sex with & how it was funny cos everyone thought he was so sweet & such a smart, decent guy. Oh, then he asked me for a similar track record… uh-nothankyou. THEN, he started fondling my arse whilst we were walking out of the coffee shop. Instant no-no. I pretended to have received a text from my little bro saying he was locked out of the house & that I needed to get home.
Needless to say I haven’t seen this guy again… funny though, cos everyone really does think he’s a smart, sweet, decent guy. Good facade, I’d say.
kabochafashion
Aw sorry to hear about your date lovely. God I really HATE guys who talk at me rather than to me so I totally feel you. It makes me so angry – it’s like ‘hello, I have a voice to y’know?!’ So totally good call for escaping after the coffee!
Kaiah is simply ADORABLE and quite stunning! I’m so jealous – whatever breed she is she is very unique. I am absolutely in love with her mug shot – HOW CUTE! No wonder you chose her, you can’t help but fall in love with that little cutie pie face π
Hannah
Awww what a bummer about your date! I know everyone always says this in consolation (but it’s TRUE!): you’ll find a keeper when you least expect it. Keep your chin up!
Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner)
Jeez what a douchbag!! I can’t stand people like that!! And he sure doesn’t deserve someone as awesome as you π
And ooooohman Kaiah is the CUTEST!! She is SO adorable and I love that she and her siblings were all named after candy! Brillant!! π
P.S. Screw men. Come live with me and cook for me please?! And bring Kaiah. That’s an order π
Lenna (veganlenna)
Oh my, it sounds like a terrible date! π I had quite many of those as well π I usually meet guys who are unable to shut their mouth OR who are doing quite the opposite – donΒ΄t say a word. And the things get much worse when I tell them I am a psychologist. You wouldnΒ΄t think that it may be a problem, but hey – it is. I met one guy and after telling him my profession, he kept on saying “Well, IΒ΄d rather not tell YOU” after every question I gave him π
Oh and once I met a guy who spent three quarters of our date on the phone with his MOM and he kept on repeating to the phone “Nothing, I am just in the city. No, alone!”. And I thought we were having a date together…well, my mistake! π
I am a queen of bad dates:)
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Haha I get the same response from a lot of people when I tell them I have a degree in psych. It’s like all of a sudden they’re afraid to say anything because they think I’m analyzing them. And that mom story… lol… hilarious π
Natalie
omg, that little mugshot of kaiah is making my heart melt. haha, way too cute. i love mixies! (and kaiah, what a cute name!)
sorry the date didn’t go so well!!! that really sucks – but you’re right, if you don’t try, then you never know right? haha guess the guy you were with was trying to impress you so much that he went overboard π for me, i can’t stand really obnoxious guys… ones who make a really big scene, are overly loud (or yeah talk a lot about themselves), or cuss a lot. all are dealbreakers!!
better luck next time!!!!!
stoppingfordaisies
Oh my goodness. I wonder if your guy is related to a guy friend I know. He’s mentioned a few times that I’m pretty quiet and don’t talk much.. which is true except he never gives me a chance to talk! He tends to go on for ages at a time and I’m like stop talking!
Anyway, at least you went… here’s hoping the next one is better. π
Serena
Ugh, sucky dates…well, suck. :S Yes, BO is awful but for me, too much axe/ bad perfume/ cologne is also a big turn off. Also, do you have the recipe for the caramel pudding? looks deee-licious
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
No recipe here – I just buy it π It’s Belsoy.
theprocessofhealing
OMG. I had a date JUST like that! Except to top it all off, he was all touchy/feely.. in a CREEPER way. Ew. Could not get away fast enough..
Aimee
Your date reminds me exactly of a blind date i went on last year – we met at a restaurant and seriously i did not get one word in!!! He spoke about himself the entire time!!! At least the restaurant was fantastic!!
Oh well, i’m sorry to hear it didn’t go as planned but im sure there will plenty more “better” dates in the future!!! Don’t worry Mr. RIght is definately out there somewhere – and as the saying goes – you’ll meet him when you least expect it!!!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss
Sorry about the flop date…but it takes some flops to get to the right guy. I’ve had a few flops myself..the worst one being with this one guy I had met at a party then texted for a few months while I was home for summer..we seemed to hit it off ok but then we went on an actual date and it was SOOOO borrinnggg. We had nothing to talk about and he’d sit there singing songs that were being played in the background at a restaurant. I literally counted the seconds until I could go home.
Then this one date I was on was fun and all..but he wouldn’t go home. We went to dinner and then back to my place to load some maps for geocaching (have you ever done that?)..but then he locked his keys in his car, we had to drive 30 minutes to meet his mom for the spare, wait another 30 minutes, then drive back, finally unlocking his car, still going geocaching afterward, then he wanted to come back to my place to play a card game…by that time I actually told him “It’s time you go home”. The whole night was miserable.
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
He probably locked his keys in his car on purpose just so he could spend more time with ya! π
Jess@HealthyExposures
can i just say that i love your ability to relate a bad date to disappointing food? you do speak truth, though. looking forward to something only to realize it’s no good is a bummer whether it’s food or a guy π
worst date? movie…not into the guy…sloppy kiss-planting out of nowhere. like, out. of. nowhere.
i’ve been scarred for life and don’t “do” movies unless it’s official now, ahaha. only partially kidding. ironically, i “wasn’t feeling well” after that, either π
sorry to hear about your bad date π i agree, though — mr. right is out there, and we’re still young. (uh…even if people in my graduating class are married and popping out kids, i can still use that as an excuse, right…?) is it too much to ask for a guy with no bo, no bad breath, no cockyness and has a little bit of hygiene?
…don’t i just sound like a princess…
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Lol ahhhh I know… It feels so weird that so many of my friends and people I went to school with are already married with kids. The only thing I worry about is all the good guys being taken!
sunshinevegan
Aww sorry about your sucky date :/ that guy sounds like a self absorbed douche and someone as pretty and cool as you deserves better! And with your awesome cooking skills I bet guys are totally falling over you. Just sayin π the right one is out there somewhere girl!
Albizia
Kaiaaaaaaah! Adorable! My puppy was homeless, too. It was living under an old car when dad took it in a plastic bag and brought it home as a birthday present for me π .
I’m sorry about the date. I have my own list of nightmare dates and I know it’s not pleasant. When a guy’s idea of romance includes a bench surrounded by a swarm of mosquitoes, when he talks about the ring of wedding bells on a first date, when he is two hours late and doesn’t even bother to bring me a flower, when he lets me go home alone at 3 a.m. while knowing perfectly well that my neighborhood isn’t a safe one, when he starts crying because I cannot respond to his eternal love after the second date, when he grows a whole new civilization in his kitchen sink… that just makes me sick. Once I wrote a very long post about it (unfortunately, not in English) and now that I look at it, I don’t wonder why I haven’t been on a date for three years. I don’t miss any of this. Sorry, guys.
Jenn @ Peas and Crayons
I bet jimmy is mr. right… go date him instead =) lol! frogs darling, frogs. the prince will come <3 and make it sooooo worth the wait =) tah-rust me
until then – get your butt in the kitchen and make me dinner woman! <3
i kid i kid
pumpedforpumpkin
Bummer the date didn’t go over well but you’re right you’ll never find Mr. Right unless you try! At least you cut it off after talking. I think that was a smart decision! You’re an awesome girl who deserves the best π
eva626
when someone thinks your desperate for him…lol when you thought that first
Sarah - feeedingbrainandbody
Wow, thats too bad that the date didn’t go well. On the other hand that’s great that you cut it off after the coffee and “talk”. I think that is just evidence at how well you feel with your self as an individual, a really desperate incomplete girl totally would have tried to make it work with the doornail of a guy. Clearly you are satisfied and smart enough to continue learning about yourself without a guy like that π
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate
Sorry about the bad date π
Katy
OH, I have a question! How did you get set up with him in the first place?
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
I went to school with him and he was a friend of a friend. I talked to him on a few occasions but it never went anywhere past that. Then one day outta the blue he called me up and asked me out, saying he got my number from my friend (GRRR!) and the only reason he didn’t ask for it himself because he didn’t think I was single. He seemed nice enough, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to try it out.
Katy
Hehe this kind of reminds me of a date I went on in February except it was the complete opposite -he wouldn’t say a dang word! It was like I had to force the words out of his mouth. It was kinda nice though, he took me to his favourite beach and we just talked (re: I talked and whenever he talked he spoke so quietly that I was constantly saying, “what?!” He must have thought I was deaf or something.) However I was soooo glad to get home. I told him I was supposed to help my Dad cut the grass (yeah right, I never cut the grass) and so he drove me home. Needless to say, we never went out again but when I told him that I had feelings for someone else (i.e. his friend) he seemed pretty bummed. Actually the text went, “AWWWW MAN!!!!” hahahaha Oh boy…
What really turns me off is an BO and an unattractive smile. The first thing I notice about the guy is how they smell and how they smile. I need a good smelling guy with a sexy smile. Is that too much too ask?!
xxx
Sara K
Kaiah is so adorable! Damn sounds like your date was a dud…but I definitely agree someone who is too full of talking about themselves/not actually engaging in a reciprocal conversation is a complete turn-off. I also find guys who are complete know-it-alls/feel the need to compete/one-up me about anything a turn-off.
Oh well, I’m sure our prince charmings are out there somewhere..
VeggieGirl
Haha reminds me of Chooey’s “mug shot” before we adopted her from the shelter. Too cute.
Oh jeez π Sounds like a douche. Sorry you had to endure that. Now go stare at hot male model photos for the rest of the night π
First date horror story = the guy couldn’t drive, and I didn’t have my license yet. His weirdo friend drove us… ugh. I called my parents to pick me up, hahaha.
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Lol those young years of dating where no one had a car were some pretty awkward times. I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with that anymore.
