Happy Wednesday, friendly faces!
It’s that time of the month again! Not that that time of the month, but time for another Currently post.
If you’re new to Spoons and/or don’t know what all this nonsense is about, it’s basically a post I do every month where I talk about some of the things that are currently going on in life. This is my fourth year doing them (see June 2013, 2014, and 2015), and it’s neat to be able to go back and see what I was up to back then and how things have changed.
So let’s take a look at life as I currently know it.
Current book: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. It’s the second book in the Court of Thorns and Roses series, and I enjoyed the first one so I’ve got high hopes for this one as well. I’ll let you know when I finish it!
Current music: Wait by NF. Oh man… Seriously an awesome song to listen to, especially if you ever find yourself out driving late at night.
[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-J2k77qf1k&w=640&h=427″]
Current [non]-guilty pleasure: Video games 🎮 I didn’t get to play at all over the past couple of months, so it’s been nice to dabble again. I seriously don’t think it’s something I’ll ever grow out of.
Current drink: Golden milk. I’m a little over one week into my golden milk experiment, and it’s been pretty interesting. I’m looking forward to sharing some observations with you guys in next week’s WIAW post.
Current food: The swampy chocolate n’ice cream I showed you guys in my last WIAW post. It’s been a lunch staple for a handful of weeks now, and if I could, I’d happily eat it for breakfast and dinner as well.
Current obsession: Fresh blueberries and strawberries and ALL the berries… mostly in bar form.
Almond Butter & Jelly Banana Bread Bars | Double Blueberry Muffin Bars
Current craving: Salty popcorn. I can’t even remember the last time I had popcorn, which means it’s been too long, which means that has to change. Possibly tonight.
Current need: For my coffee to start doing its job. I don’t even know if caffeine has much of an effect on me, but if I believe it does then maybe I’ll get some lovely placebo action going on because I’m feeling a little flat as far as my writing voice goes and I could use a little extra pep. (Edited to add: it didn’t work.)
Current indulgence: A little bit of extra R&R. Since I work from home, it’s pretty hard for me to switch my brain off of “work mode” and not feel like I have to be productive every second my eyes are open. But with the manuscript done after a handful of pretty crazy months, I’m letting trying to convince myself to chill and do more things that I love outside of baking. It’s nice.
Current bane of my existence: Given all the tragic and hateful things happening in the world lately, I really have nothing to complain about.
Current procrastination: I really need to go to the bank. And the registry. Actually, they might still be open right now so I’m gonna run out real quick and get that done. Be right back.
…
…
Ok. Back.
Current confession: I’ve been saying “Nutella” wrong for my entire life 😳 Apparently it’s pronounced “new-tell-uh,” whereas I’ve always called it “nuh-tell-uh.” Confession #2 – I probably won’t change my ways.
Current quote: It’s sad how true this is in a lot of cases!
Current excitement: I’m currently planning a trip to the mountains so I’m definitely looking forward to that. It’s been too long!
Current mood: Not bad, but definitely a little more subdued than my normal overly-hyper self. Might be time to step away from the computer and do some reading. See you guys tomorrow for ToL!
Let’s chat!

The golden milk thing is too interesting to me. Please keep us updated. For what it’s worth everyone I know does not pronounce Nutella like that 😉 Must be a “we are not from Europe” thing?
Ange // Cowgirl Runs
I still haven’t read the first book in that series, but they’re both on my list!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You need toooooooo!!! It reminds me a lot of the Throne of Glass series, but with a bigger fairy tale/myth vibe. And while the first book is good, the second one is absolutely rocking my socks off. I can see this completely wrecking me if it doesn’t turn out the way I want 😆
Julia @ Drops of Jules
Amanda just wanted to say I LOVE when you do these posts. Don’t get me wrong, I love your mouthwatering recipes too- I just really enjoy hearing about your life 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thank you, Julia! I’m trying to do at least one more personal-isa post a week whether it’s a currently, WIAW, or whatever 🙂
chasetheredgrape
That’s odd about Nutella – I say it the same way as you, as does most of Europe, including Italy where Nutella is from!! Strange…!
I heard Crash Bandicoot is coming back… Oh I hope so, I would actually buy a games console for that one!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I remember Crash! And I think the new-tells is supposed to be an American pronunciation since that’s how they say it in all the commercials over here. But… I don’t think it caught on 😆
Casey the College Celiac
Give me your current:
… a) book. Well, I haven’t had much time for reading thanks to my internship, family trips and blog…but I last finished The Glass Castle and it was amazing!
… b) music. Kelly Clarkson. Throwin’ it back.
… c) food. ALL THE BERRIES!
… d) obsession. Veronica Mars on Amazon Prime 😛
… e) confession.Nothing pops into my mind…except that I’m maybe eating dinner and watching Netflix as I type this! 😉
Hannah Elizabeth
Lol, Amanda, you’re writing voice wa still there even if you could detect it! You were still very much Amanda! 😉
Book: I’m between books, but I just finished “Rising Strong” by Brené Brown. SO, SO good, and I totally recommend it for absolutely anyone (that and “Daring Greatly”, the previous one, are like my two must-read book recs…although I have some fiction suggestions that aren’t that far behind 😜). Those two have been life-changing for me!
Food: I’m going through another “savory plantain chips at almost every meal” phase. I find myself scrounging for something that will fill my belly that I can eat with plantain chips…last night’s dinner? Sure. Or maybe some hummus? Done. 😋
Obsession: writing in my digital journal app. I was always the paper journal person, because I loved pretty journals, but I can type so much faster and journaling helps me work through and think through the tough stuff.
Confession: I’ve spent pretty much all this afternoon trying to get a small, simple list of things done, and I keep flitting from one thing to another. I feel so distractable. Though I can comfort myself that everything I’m doing is something I need to do…just not something I prioritized for today. 😣
Music: Aaa, too hard…I’ve been all about so many different songs and several artists. I’m still enjoying Andy Grammer and have been digging into a bunch of Coldplay I’ve never heard. Also Ben Rector…”Live Like the World is Going to End” may just be my life theme song. ❤️
BTW, I’ve been pronouncing Nutella wrong too. And I probably won’t change either. 😝
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Lol! I still read it as nut-tella in my head, and them I’m like… oh crap 😡 And for the distractible-ness… I totally feel you on that one. I can almost never sit down and get something done in one go. I’m always hopping around to other things and it drives me crazy. I swear all the time I’ve spent on the internet has made it so much worse!
Ali @ Hit the Ground Running
Nutella is hazelnut flavored! I think it should be pronounced “nut” too, for that reason!
That book looks really interesting. I’m looking for a good fantasy-adventure style read. I’ll have to check out the series!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Having gotten a bit more into it, I can say DEFINITELY check it out. The first book is good too, but the second book is basically rocking my socks right off.
Heather @ Polyglot Jot
I’m loving the berries too! Ive been eating blueberries strawberries and dark chocolate together with lunch and its so delicious! Glad to hear youve been doing some relaxing–you deserve it after all of your hard work with the manuscript!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
I say “Nutella” the same way as you, and even though I know tons of people who say it the right way, it sounds bad to my ears every single time. I adore your current quote, and I hope you get some of that R&R you need!
Kathryn
I just finished the game Undertale, and I highly recommend it! Don’t read any spoilers and just give it a try–it will warm your heart. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thank you, Kathryn! I’ll check it out 🙂
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers
I’m glad I happened to stop by on one of your Currently posts. THey’re my favorite. 🙂
My current:
… a) book. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
… b) music. “No” by Meghan Trainor because of how Ethan sings it (hilarious)
… c) food. Ice cream. (shocker)
… d) obsession. Sleep.
… e) confession. I’m in need of a date night but don’t trust babysitters. Ugh… why can’t I loosen up a bit?!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Aww! Well, in your defense, there are some pretty crazy things going on, so it’s not like your concerns are ungrounded. Can family watch your boys?
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl
Book: The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up – because my little apartment needs some TLC
Food: All the watermelon and ice cream for summer, all the time
Music: Country love songs 🙂
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
I’ve been on a major berry kick too! I think I went through major withdrawals over the winter that it’s putting my craving into overdrive.
And I’m glad to hear you are taking some time to relax now that you’ve finished your manuscript. It’s so easy to get burned out when you work non-stop. I’ve been doing it for the past week to catch up from traveling and I can feel the burn creepin’ in. That usually means it’s time for a hike or a day at the park. Nature really is the best therapy!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The days leading up to and after travelling can definitely be rough. Your hikes are always so beautiful, so I hope you get to enjoy one soon!
[email protected] a Dash of Cinnamon
I love being outside too. I’m trying to get out as much as I can with this wonderful weather we’ve been having!
Lindsay Cotter
So I’m currently loving your quote and that big bowl of popcorn with mini chocolate chips! Love this time of the month when you post “Currently”…so fun!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
<3 Also, answering your e-mail, stat.
annie mishler
Oh my gosh, you can’t remember the last time you had popcorn?! That’s insane. I think I have popcorn every day, no joke. You need to get on it, sista.
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I thought everyone said it as NUT tella. That’s crazy! And good for you for being able to get some down time in. I feel like I’m desperately needing that right now. Juggling school and everything else has been a lot of work.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I know, right?! I actually heard someone saying it “new-tell-uh” once and thought they were saying it wrong. But that’s actually how they say it in all the commercials too. D’oh.
Shashi @ RunninSrilankan
I so LURRRVE your current quote! Yesss I say – be happy! I mean there’s even a song about it right? 😉
As for your current confession – NO WAY!!! I’ve been saying “nuh-tell-uh” too – had no idea it was “new-tell-uh,” and I think “nuh-tell-uh” sounds better – so let’s just go with it eh?! 🙂
Jo @ Living Mint Green
OMG I’ve been pronouncing Nutella wrong too! My mind is blown. NEWtella? No.
Sara @ saralouyoga
That salty popcorn with chocolate chips is to die for! OK here goes mine:
… a) book- a book on meditation I’m a yoga teacher and it has REALLY helped me out…although it’s a bit dense and has taken me a while to read over and write notes for
… b) music– anything trevor hall, I’m loving his tunes lately
… c) food — ROASTED VEGGIES…especially broccoli…when it gets crispy…with a bit of pimento paste…yum!
… d) obsession maybe the veggies are the obsession? LOL I’m currently obsessed with the beautiful weather and long days..
… e) confession- i’ve been patiently awaiting season 4 of orange is the new black and i’m not gonna know what to do with myself when it comes out in a few days! xo
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ohhh I love those books where I have to bust out the highlighter 😀
Leah M | love me, feed me
a) Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn – I’ve been bad at reading lately so grabbed this as an easy read and it’s alright
b) Ben Howard and Chet Faker <3
c) banana ice cream always and rice with avocado!!
d) coffee coffee coffee and Gilmor Girls. I think the two are correlated.
e) I can't figure out if I've been saying nutella right or not… I can't remember how I say it ahaha!
Hope you're feeling a better, sweet lady!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
Love your quote. My favorite is “keep smiling it always confuses the enemy”. Have a blessed day. Love the pedicure.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Lolol! That’s a good one as well. Thanks Lauren!
Rachel @ athleticavocado
Yay i guess I have been pronouncing nutella right my whole life haha. Now you have me wanting all the nutella!
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
I’m heading to the mountains the first week of July and I couldn’t be more excited. Also, how is it almost JULY!?
I thought the same thing when I was writing my currently post for this month. I really have zero things to complain about, my life is pretty good and considering what some people are dealing with, I’m very, very lucky. It’s nice to remember that sometimes, it can be easy to get sucked into the negativity!
Nothing wrong with some R&R! We are building a house and I told my husband last weekend that when it’s done, I can’t wait to have a lazy weekend where we have NOTHING to do. It’s gonna be great!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s crazy how blessed we are compared to some of the things people have to deal with. Just crazy. Like… did you hear about the boy who got dragged away by a crocodile in Disney yesterday?! I can’t even imagine 🙁
Alyssa
I say nutella wrong too! Wow haha never new it was pronounced like that. I picked up some kettle corn from the store last week and it has been hitting the spot! Salty popcorn sounds so good too. 🙂
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I love you’re giving yourself time to chill and relax, and I’m thrilled video games are making their way back into your life. I’m hoping in a few months I can say the same thing, although with puzzles instead. 🙂
I can’t think of the title but I love the book I’m reading right now. It’s easy, breezy and super captivating. Plus it’s about food. I’ll share it in my next Currently post.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I haven’t done puzzles in a while and I miss them. I’ve been looking for a good one, but so far none of them have really managed to reel me in.
Michele @ PaleoRunningMomma
I think so many people say Nutella like nut 🙂 I say either way goes. Love that you link to books and music since I’m seriously lacking in both those areas and need ideas. I also am loving the golden milk this week! I think it might have actually helped me fight a cold my kids have!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I could literally talk books ’till the cows come home. Let me know what kind of genres you like and I could probably recommend something!
Kat
YAY for NF! You know how I feel about him 🙂 So talented.
And seriously, there are so many brands I don’t say right. I definitely say NUtella and not NEWtella. Don’t even get me started on how to pronounce Lululemon….
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha! I just say “Lulu” 😉
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
Ooh I like the song. I don’t have a current book and I need to change that! With all the beach time I plan to have this summer, I need to get myself a good lineup.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Have you read Liane Moriarty’s books? They’re really interesting/fun reads that would be good for summer. I really liked The Husband’s Secret and Big Little Lies.
Hollie
I’m interested to hear about the golden milk experiment and how you feel doing it. I think your bones need inflammation to heal (although I’m not entirely sure) but I’m interested in trying it once I’m
Healed.
Emily Swanson
Hehe… I don’t think it matters how you say Nutella. 🙂 And all your eats? I want to come live next to you. The berries right now are AMAZING!
Kate
I say Nutella the same way too. I doubt I will change my ways, haha. Kat mentioned NF in one of her latest posts and I’ve been really digging them!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
I love that you play video games. The new Zelda trailer was released yesterday and I geeked out and posted it all over FB hahaha
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Omg I saw it too! I’ve been a hardcore Zelda fan since… err… original Nintendo and bought all the various systems -just- to play the Zelda games. So much love for that franchise.
heather @Lunging Through Life
Please tell me you aren’t going to the mountains to snowboard…? Oddly enough, I heard the right way to pronounce Nutella back in the day and it stuck. Currently I’m trying to think of what to have for breakfast.. hmm..
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I wish! The resorts actually closed back in the beginning of May, so only hiking and biking this time around.
