This lightened-up Strawberry Greek Yogurt Banana Bread is made without butter or oil, but so soft and tender that you’d never be able to tell! Naturally sweetened and loaded with strawberry and banana flavour in each bite, it makes a great healthy alternative to a traditional favourite!
I feel like it’s been for.ev.er since I posted a recipe for you guys! Err… probably because it kind of has been 😬
I was going to try prescheduling a bunch of posts before I left, buuuuuuut I can’t for the life of me write posts ahead of time.
Like… how would I have known a couple weeks ago what I wanted to say today? What if something interesting happened between then and now that I really wanted to tell you about? I’d have to go back and change everything.
I’ve had to do the whole pre-written thing a couple of times, and each time I go to post what I wrote prior, I’m like… “uhhh… really, Amanda? Really, though?!?” This is why I rarely go back to reread old posts — the #facepalm moments are real when you’re in a different head space.
So! here I am sitting at a table overlooking the ocean, attempting to write about the strawberry Greek yogurt banana bread that I whipped up about 2 weeks ago…
I even froze some and packed it with me to refresh my memory 😉
And before you go thinking that I’m crazy for working on what’s supposed to be my vacation, you may very well be right.
BUT! It’s not that bad because: a) I like writing, b) I miss you guys, and c) it’s currently noon here and I need to hide from the sun for a while because even an SPF50 didn’t do much for the skin on my poor shoulders and chest. Let’s just say they very closely resemble the colour of the strawberries that dot this delicious banana bread…
And yes, I realize that’s a pretty horrible comparison to make, but hey man – that’s real life. I’m Canadian and fair skinned – I burn easier than… than… things that burn. Easily. <– #brainfart 😳
Luckily, this bread does better in the heat than I do, and 50 minutes in the oven not only makes it perfectly golden brown, but super tender and flavourful as well. So tender that you’d never guess it’s made without any butter or oil – just Greek yogurt and bananas to keep it nice and moist.
I added a bunch of strawberries because they pair perfectly with bananas, and you could even take things a step further and use strawberry flavoured yogurt to add even more berry flavour. OR go all out and add a [big] handful of chocolate chips – I’m kind of wishing I did that myself…
I’d love to know if you make this recipe! Leave a comment and rating down below to let me know what you think, and subscribe to our mailing list to receive new recipes in your inbox!
PrintStrawberry Greek Yogurt Banana Bread
- Total Time: 55 mins
- Yield: 12 slices 1x
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups (210 g) whole wheat pastry flour*
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 medium-size ripe bananas (200 g or 1 cup mashed)
- 1/2 cup (115 g) plain Greek yogurt**
- 1/4 cup (80 g) honey
- 1/4 cup (50 g) coconut palm sugar***
- 1 cup (140 g) diced strawberries, fresh or frozen
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350ºF (176ºC), and lightly grease a 9 x 5 (23 x 13cm) loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well combined and set aside.
- Lightly beat the eggs in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Add the mashed bananas, Greek yogurt, honey, and coconut sugar. Stir until well combined before gently folding in the diced strawberries.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the loaf pan, spreading it out evenly, and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top starts to get too brown, you can cover it with a sheet of aluminum foil at around 35 mins.
- Remove from oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely. Store it in an airtight container T room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
Notes
* You can also use a mix of whole wheat and all purpose. I recommend 1 cup AP and 3/4 cup WW. ** If you want a slightly sweeter banana bread, you can also sub out the plain yogurt for a flavoured variety like vanilla or strawberry. *** You can also sub this out with brown sugar.
- Prep Time: 10 mins
- Cook Time: 45 mins

Made this yesterday, really good this is the first strawberry banana bread I’ve ever made and just happened to need to use of both. I did change to brown sugar as I don’t have the specialty sugars, added 1 tsp vanilla extract just because I feel should be in all sweet loaves, and used your suggestion of 1c ap flour and 3/4whole wheat worked great. I did wing it a bit with the banana and strawberry measurements but was close enough maybe a tad extra, still baked at 50mins and did cover at 35mins. Yum! Next I think I’ll try blueberries.
I do have a question are only berries a good add in? Just curious what else instead of berries could work.

Can greek yogurt sub with regular plain yogurt?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You definitely can, Yuki! Just try to avoid adding too much of the liquid that settles on top.

If the strawberries are frozen, do they need to be thawed first?

Such an easy recipe and foolproof. I only had time to let the dough rise in the refrig for 1 hr. and the rolls were so YUMMY! I made a paste with fresh herbs and olive oil as suggested by another poster and my family just loved them. Thank you Dee for such a great recipe!

I am awful at writing ahead of time too! I hate it when a brand wants to review the draft of a post ahead of time. I’m like um…no?
I’m glad you got this up, brain fart and all, because it looks unbelievable! Strawberry and banana is such an amazing combo and then there’s bread which we all know and love very well. I want to shove the whole loaf in my mouth at once! 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Those prewritten sponsored drafts are the worst 🙁 I mean, it’s kind of nice when it comes time to post and you don’t have to worry about it, but I’ve had to do some so far in advance that they didn’t even make sense when it was time to post 😆

Yes I absolutely think you’re crazy for working on your vacation, but you know that already. Besides, I have three very brown bananas and a bunch of strawberries in my fridge right now. Maybe, just maybe (hopefully), I can work up the energy to make this. It looks fantastic, especially without the chocolate chips, although I’m sure the Hubby would disagree.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You know I love you, boo… but I think I’m going to have to side with your hubby on this one because… chocolate <3
Ellie
Oh Amanda you are precious! I do not burn too easily, but if I am out too long in direct sun I do get some red coloring. I hope you are enjoying your vacation 🙂 Of course I miss you!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You’re the sweetest, Ellie! Thank you for being you <3
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian
This sounds like a delicious combination of flavors. Would make a great breakfast bread!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
With a side of coffee <3 Definitely one of my favourite combinations.
Kaila @healthyhelperblog!
LOVE using greek yogurt in baked goods! It makes them so soft and moist! This bread looks so good. The pictures are gorgeous!
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl
Love, love, love the strawberry banana combination! Hope you are enjoying vacation too 🙂

Hey Amanda, happy that you are back with your mouthwatering recipes! Just wondering, with your cookbook coming soon, will you be putting recipes on the book that you also feature onto your site or will the book have ‘better’ recipes that will not be shared on your site?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Great question, Angela! I’m betting a lot of people are wondering that as well. The book will include 80 recipes, and 76 of those will be new recipes that have never been on the blog.

Yeah..I’ve tried to pre-write a few posts too and it hasn’t worked out so well. I find that things just change! and I end up writing other stuff instead haha. Oh well, maybe soon I’ll get the hang of it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s okay if you don’t, too! Just gotta figure out what style of writing works best for you.
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
Strawberries + bananas = ❤️.. This looks amazing! I adore berries in banana bread. And yeah, I burn so easily it’s not funny. The stairwell in my house has a rust/red-colored accent wall and once upon a time, I burned badly enough to basically match the wall. Fun times.
Alysia at Slim Sanity
I’m soooo in the mood to bake right now but I don’t have bananas or eggs. And going to the store right now is not an option because, lazy! haha Hope you enjoy the rest of vacation!
Michele @ PaleoRunningMomma
I just made a strawberry banana coffee cake yesterday so we are totally on the same page, love it!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I love that it’s totally not the first time that’s happened 😆
Hollie
This does look good. I think I mentioned earlier that I do enjoy how moist greek yogurt makes anything you’re cooking. This looks great and I hope your enjoying yourself on vacation!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Greek yogurt seriously has to be one of my favourite recipe substitutions. Thanks so much, Hollie!
meredith @ cookie chrunicles
I miss you! yes, I do burn easily so I wear the highest sunblock spf but even that won’t save me when down south in florida!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Only certain patches of me burn! It’s seriously the weirdest thing. I’ll have this big red patch surrounded by normal skin 😆
Dawn Bright
I substituted eggs for flax meal, and it was delicious!
