Hey, hey! Welcome to Tuesday!
Everyone feeling refreshed and recharged after the long weekend? I certainly wouldn’t say no to having a few more days off (all in favour of swapping a 2-day weekend for a 4-day weekend, say “I”), but I’m definitely happy with what I got… especially since what I got ended up being not one but two days at the lake…
Yesterday was another gorgeous day here in Edmonton, and after a mild SNAFU that dragged me into work in the morning, I got to spend the rest of the day relaxing by the water. Bliss. The only downside is that I was originally planning on doing some baking this weekend so that I could share a recipe with you guys today, but… well… kitchens are a little hard to come by in the woods, so I had to go with Plan B…
What exactly is Plan B? A “currently” post. I like to do these once a month to keep you guys up to date on some of the happenings here in Spoons land, and seeing as my last one was in August, it’s high time for another! But don’t worry… I promise I’ll get that recipe up by the end of the week.
. – . – . – .
Current books: Another month, another 30 days without a book. It’s not that I haven’t been reading – I still do everyday – but my reading involves grabbing an old book, flipping it open to a random page, and reading a few chapters (usually before I pass out at night). Some of my go-tos? The Name of the Wind, The Alchemist, Delirium, and Life of Pi. I need something new.
Current music: As we speak? Let’s Fall in Love by Mother Mother is what’s titillating my eardrums.
[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ5CPWKEKLw&w=560&h=315″]
Current guilty pleasure: These bars. I may not have managed to do any baking this weekend, but I did manage some non-baking. 1o minutes very well spent.
Current nail colour: My fingers are currently rocking their birthday suits, so let’s take a look down at my toes. Oh, would you lookit that… my toes are still rocking Essie’s Sunday Funday.
Current drink: Coffee with a tea bag thrown in. Can we say obsession? And can we stick delicious in front of that? I’ve been experimenting with different flavours of tea, and while Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride continues to be my favourite, I have to say that it’s definitely made my morning coffee more interesting.
Current food: Peaches! Nectarines! And from what I’ve been seeing around the blog world and Instagram, I’m definitely not the only one. Those and… chia seeds… but more on that tomorrow.
Current favorite show: I can’t even remember the last time I turned my TV on, so I guess that answers that question…
Current wish list: A dress for HLS! I more-or-less know what I want, but I’m absolutely horrible at shopping for dresses. I wear one maybe a few times a year, so going to buy one feels somewhat awkward. Would it be a faux-pas to show up to a cocktail party in jeans and a tee shirt? Yes… yes it would.
Current needs: Aloe! Who gets sunburnt in September. WHO?!
Current triumphs: Overcoming my aversion to healthier foods. I’ve talked about this a few times in the past, but I went through a serious rebellious phase with healthy food. My mind had a hard time separating healthy from disordered after I recovered from my ED, causing me to want to avoid all veggies, whole grains, etc. But lately? I can’t seem to get enough…
Current bane of my existence: Fruit flies. Begone you saccharine-obsessed, cleverly disguised spawns of the devil! The fruit is mine!
Current celebrity crush: You know, besides the ones I mentioned in the past, I don’t really have one. Of course there are guys that I find attractive, but to actually call it crushing? Not so much. I don’t pay enough attention to the celeb world.
Current indulgence: A weekly trip to Duchess Bake Shop…
Current blessing: ALL the things! If you read my last post about choosing happiness, you probably know that I’m pretty big on doing my best to see even the smallest things as blessings.
Current slang: It’s not really slang, but I have a tendency to say things that make me sound a bit like a grandma. Case in point: “oh my” and “oh dear”…
Current outfit: Keeping things simple and summery in a tee and shorts.
Current excitement: I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this fact, but Healthy Living Summit is less than two weeks away, which means that in about 10 days I’ll be jumping on a plane to finally meet some of my favourite bloggers. Holy.snap. I’ll spare you the ridiculous giddiness for now and save that for the last few days before I leave 😉
Current mood: See above
Current link: Bebe.com. I may have mentioned being in dire need of a dress?
. – . – . – .
Have a happy Tuesday! If you haven’t had enough of me already, you can go check me out over at Arman’s.
Are you big on wearing dresses? I love makeup and beauty products, but when it comes to my clothes? I definitely lean more towards the tomboy side.
What are you currently (in general)…
1) … reading? (I need something new!)
2) … doing?
3) … eating/drinking?
Julia G
Check out “Thirteen Reasons Why” AMAZING BOOK.
Courtney @ Don't Blink. Just Run.
That lake looks amazing and umm, you can never have too many trips to a bakery. If someone tells you that, run away.
I’m currently catching up on reading my favorite blogs.
Doing? I’m at work, clearly working very hard at replying to your post.
And being that it’s prior to 10 am, I’ve just finished a coffee and drinking my water. Nothing too exciting there for sure!
Yoojin
for the fruit flies, try setting a trap with apple cider vinegar!
they always infest my bananas and i’ve been having the trap for days & it works! they just keep coming back though because i always have a stash of bananas… ohwell 😛
Giselle@myhealthyhappyhome
Ahhh! I hate fruit flies! We had an infestation in our house a few weeks ago and still have some stragglers every few days. I tried everything to get rid of them and finally bought some fly strips that seem to have done the trick. It was so horrible since I couldn’t keep fruit out on my counter so no bananas, tomatoes, or avocados for weeks!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You can just keep them in big, sealed tupperware containers! That’s what I’ve been doing and it’s helped a lot.
Karey @ Nutty About Health
I’m not big on dresses either, so I feel ya on that. I didn’t even realize that HLS was happening so soon… & so close to me (I’m in WI)! Ah well, maybe next year…
I’m loving peaches, nectarines, & pears lately. So good!
jenn @ runnderlust
Really, really loving that picture with the two people on the canoe!
Julie @ Health Nut Julie
Coffee with a tea bag? That sounds amazing! Great way to add flavor. I generally add cinnamon but then I choke on all of it when I get to the bottom haha.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yup! Definitely been there myself 😆 Tea is much safer, and I love that it adds flavour without any chemicals.
Julie @ Health Nut Julie
Yes! Although I must admit I love sugar free toasted almond from Dunkin’ (guiltyyyy) but hopefully I can stray from my bad habits with this trick!
Molly@This Life Is Sparkling
I made your no bake protein bars this weekend and I may or may not just have eaten two of them because they were just so good. I’m so jealous your going to HLS! My sister is going so I’ll have to live vicariously through her 😉
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Healthy Kitchen
Oh crap, I need a dress for HLS too! Actually I don’t even know if I’m going to make it to the cocktail party though because my flight doesn’t get in until 9:30! If I get there too late, can we have a PJ party afterwards? Haha.
Currently I’m…
Reading: A Feast for Crows – I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to read it lately!
Doing: Just doing some readings on Standards of Care for my internship.
Eating/drinking: I just had spaghetti with meat sauce and salad for dinner, and now I’m drinking Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea. I’m so obsessed with this tea!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Confession: I would kind of be okay with missing the cocktail party if it would save me from dress buying 😉 And omigosh that tea is one of my favourites! But licorice tea is amazing in general… I recently found a chocolate spice not that I’m basically crazy over.
Arman @ thebigmansworld
I will be vicariously living through all your antics at the HLS! You guys should all extend it and fly over here to Australia for the after party! The lake and outdoors look beautiful- the perfect form of relaxation! I also may have made another batch of crack last night…. :p
Currently I am reading your blog post, commenting on your blog post, whilst consuming raisin toast and eggs 😉 All at the same time.
Katherine
I love little posts like this talking about what’s going on in your life. I think I’m crushing on your almond butter bars. I’ve already made them, and I think it’s safe to say it was love at first sight/taste/etc. WAY too good!
Are you big on wearing dresses? I think I rival Taylor Swift with the amount of dresses I have and wear. I LOVE them. That’s the girly girl side of me! I love flowy ones, tight ones, cutout ones, long ones, I just love them!
What are you currently (in general)…
1) … reading? Well, I’m reading A Raisin in the Sun for school, but I’ve been meaning to start something new!
2) … doing? Lots of school work, stretching, exercising, eating (duh!), and attempting to sleep more
3) … eating/drinking? Asian lettuce wraps! My mom made them tonight, and I’m in love. Oh, and I found some peanut butter/chocolate arctic freeze ice cream at my local Walmart, so I’ve been working on a pint of it for a while now.
Catherine @ foodiecology
Your lake photos are gorgeous!
I really wish I was going to HLS–maybe next year. I’m sure it will be a blast, though.
I used to feel the same way about dresses, but lately, I’ve been loving them. I think it’s because a) it’s blazing hot outside, b) I’ve finally found some that fit well and are super comfy, and c) I’ve received several compliments when I do wear them. Good luck finding the perfect one!
As for me, I’m currently drinking a watermelon wheat beer from Tin Roof Brewing in Louisiana. Yum. (And I HATE fruit flies, too!)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think that’s the main thing for me – finding a style that fits. I do love dresses for how comfortable and non-restrictive they can be, but I’m still not sure what looks good on me so I always feel kind of self-conscious!
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables
You used snafu!! Love that!! 🙂
Current bane of my existence is those stupid fruit flies too! I really wish I was going to HLS!
Alex @ therunwithin
first off, thank you for the new music. Second, why fruit flies why. I currently have them too and they are killing me. I don’t know why they came or why they won’t go away. darn.
Liz @ The Girl on Fire Now
I’m all about stopping procrastinating, Blogilates, and American Ninja Warrior
Kelly @ Femme Fitale
I always love your ‘currently’ posts! Sounds like you had a great long weekend. Jealous of your HLS trip and looking forward to hearing all about it.
I have so many dresses. It’s my go-to apparel. I think they are so much more comfortable than pants or shorts, and it typically looks like you’re put together without even trying (that’s my kinda clothing!) I actually made it through my entire pregnancy without having to buy any maternity pants because I just wore dresses the whole time (although living in Australia allowed for that).
Happy short week 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m pretty sure that I would love dresses too once I found a style that works for me, but Alberta weather doesn’t exactly allow for a very long dress season 😆
Katie @ Daily Cup of Kate
I am pretty much a tomboy but when it comes to dresses, I’m all for them! I think I literally have more dresses then jeans/shorts/capris combined.
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Have I ever told you how much I hate pants? Like I will do anything to avoid wearing the dreaded things… I hate that they make my stomach feel constricted 😉 So, to answer your question, I’m ALL about dresses! Any way, any how – I wear them any chance I get! I’m going to give your coffee/tea concoction a try tomorrow morning! I’ve been getting bored with my typical coffee routine and I think throwing tea in might make my day 😉
Alisha @ Alisha's Appetite
I could definitely use a few more days off, too 🙂 I’m justttt bout done with The Book Thief! You might enjoy that. As far as a dress- I almost always find a last minute dress at Express. So excited for everyone going to HLS to get to meet each other!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You’re the second person to mention The Book Thief, so I’m thinking that I’ll definitely have to check it out!
kris
“I!” totally in favor 😉
Wow, the lake looks amazing! Glad you had a great weekend!
Dresses (comfortable ones) have really been growing on me the past couple years because I find them so easy to wear. But at the same time I’m all for casual tees and jean shorts on casual days.
I’m currently reading (and have been reading since June…) “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” but I don’t exactly recommend it as it’s really just been ‘meh’. Which i guess is obvious since I’ve been ‘reading’ it for almost 4 months…
Amanda @runtothefinish
gahhh fruit flies!!! Our house was overrun one time and I was sooo disgusted. figured out that putting out bowls of honey got them!! Still wish I was going to HLS, but I’m heading to FitSocial this year
Davida @ The Healthy Maven
If you ask for good book recs I literally cannot help myself! So long as you like fiction…Currently reading two books and loving both. The first is Mother Mother by Koren Zailckas (she also wrote smashed which is awesome) and Wildflower Hill by Kimberley Freeman. Other top favs are One Thousand White Women, Secret Daughter, The History of Love and anything by Sarah Jio!!! Clearly I love to read 🙂
So jealous you will be at HLS!!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I wish you were going! It would be so amazing to meet you!!
