Want to hear something crazy? I was up at 4:30 this morning. Want to hear something even crazier? I think blogging has a lot to do with my inability to sleep in. See, I tend to get overwhelmed when my to-do list starts piling up, and a pretty sizeable chunk of that to-do list relates to blogging. Writing, photographing, reading, e-mailing, commenting… it all adds up.
So, when I wake up in the morning at the crack of dawn to make a trip to the bathroom, I have the hardest time falling back asleep because my brain immediately starts thinking about all of the things that need to get done… aaaaaand it probably doesn’t help that I grab my phone to check my e-mail, IG, and Reader, which only goes on to reinforce the idea that things are adding up. Gulp.
Now, I’m in no way complaining – I love blogging and everything that comes with it; I just need to figure out a way to shoosh the brain a little bit… at least in those precious hours before the sun comes up. So, seeing as I have a feeling that today is going to be a long day, I’m counting down to the weekend… foodie style.
. – . – . – .
Ten… minutes spent throwing together last night’s dinner.
Nine… (ish) glasses of water a day.
Eight… agonizing minutes waiting for the oven to ding.
Seven… years old when it comes to snack time.
Six… apples used to make a fresh batch of applesauce.
Five… ingredients in my breakfast: oatmeal, Greek yogurt, almond butter, honey, and cinnamon.
Four… boxes of cereal in my current rotation.
Three… simple foods for one tasty snack: an English muffin, cream cheese, and maple syrup.
Two… bananas eaten on a daily basis.
One… jelly in Candy Crush that I continuously can’t clear.
Happy Friday, friends!!! 😀

Gimme some of your numbers!
What cereal(s) are currently sitting in your cupboards?
What ingredients were in this morning’s breakfast?

Oh girl, don’t stress!! Honestly, I was feeling the guilt/undue pressure coming on a couple of months ago…hence the blogging hiatus and subsequent “do what I want approach” that I’ve now adopted. I kept telling myself and telling myself that I shouldn’t feel like blogging was another thing on the to do list…that I only NEED to do it for myself…and only if I WANT to. Sometimes there’s just not enough time in the day. Or sometimes there’s plenty of time that I’d just rather spend doing other things that sitting indoors glued to my computer. I mean look at me now, it’s been a good three weeks since I’ve faithfully read blogs…I still haven’t responded to comments on my posts from last week…and I plan on putting up a post for today but haven’t even gotten started (my photos aren’t even on my computer yet!), but guess what? No stress! I’ll get to everything when I get to it! It’s all gravy baby! 😉
PS, what kind of apples do you like to use for your applesauce? I know you’ve probably mentioned it a handful of times, but I can’t seem to remember and while I’ve been saying for FOREVER that I’m going to make it, right now I’m sitting here drooling at the thought of it and have instant motivation…must go to store tomorrow…er, today! Lol
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I used Ambrosias for the longest time until all the stores apparently had a shortage… I decided to try out Golden Delicious on a whim and I’m absolutely loving them – total convert. But really, anything works as long as it isn’t too tart like a Pink Lady or Honeycrisp.
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
Good to know…I was pretty sure those were Golden Delicious! Thanks girlie! 🙂
Lift, Sleep, Eat
I totally feel you getting up at 4.30am its awfullll! It happened to me the other morning and I can’t end up going back to sleep once I’ve woken up or else I suffer from sleep paralysis :(..not nice! I think I may have to start making my own applesauce..I don’t know why I haven’t thought of this before?! As all the store bought ones near me are loaded with sugar.
I’ve got loads of cereal in my cupboard..oats, all bran, muesli, all bran red berry crunch, strawberry crunch, granola..the list goes on really.
Hope you’re having a good weekend!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
This was a cute post, and I love when there are just a few ingredients in a dish; it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Good luck on trying to catch some zzz’s. Maybe you could leave the portable electronic devices far away from the bedroom so you aren’t tempted to check them in the middle of the night. It might help quiet the mind, although most times that is easier said than done. My cats wake me up somewhere between five and six, and there are times I should go back to bed once they are fed, but I often find my mind turning so fast and furious, I just get up and get my day started.
Kay
I don’t buy cereal! I only really like puffins or raisin bran crunch but they don’t fill me up so I just skip ’em
My pre-run breakfast #1 is three medjool dates, then bigger meal after
Ellie@Fit for the soul
Hehe those bunny cookies look so delish right now. 😀 And our cereal as of now is raisin bran for Greg, and those Kashi shredded wheats! I hope you get some relaxation in this weekend and actually get to sleep in! My sleeping has been all over the place and my naps have become more frequent. 😉
Olivia @ Liv Lives Life
(I’m a bit late in reading this post, so) Happy weekend!
I love love love this idea for a post. Definitely going to do this probably next Friday. 🙂
Is one of those cereals Weetabix? I used to eat that daily when I was in England. So good!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It is! It’s definitely one of my favorites 😀
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian
OMG you have the exact same problem I do! I thought I was the only one waking up at 4:30 in the morning, not able to go back to sleep and then deciding to get up anyway to tackle the blogging to-do list. I did this exact thing on Tuesday.
Kate
Oh man I hear ya – the to-do list will get my mind racing EVERY TIME! Although I definitely don’t include blogging on there….blogging is like a treat if I get everything else done lol. Anyway, I like that you keep a variety of cereals on hand! I’m not much of a cereal girl at the moment ( I tend to go through phases with it), but when I do, I can’t ever eat just one kind at a time. Gotta mix them together! 😀 And the cream cheese/maple syrup idea…..mmmm now that sounds like something I need right now.
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Healthy Kitchen
Ugh yeah blogging stresses me out sometimes too. I never realized when I started how much work it actually takes! And I feel like I don’t even put half as much work into my blog as some other bloggers – I don’t know how they do it.
I have four cereals in my cupboard right now: Kashi Cinnamon Harvest, Cheerios, All Bran Flakes, and All Bran Original. Umm that list makes me sound like I’m 80… haha.
Today’s breakfast is (I’m eating it right now) banana egg white oatmeal with blueberries, raspberries, chia seeds and almond butter.
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
Man, it seems like everyone is playing Candy Crush! I still haven’t jumped on that bandwagon. I feel you when it comes to blogging. I used to be the same way, but the past year or so blogging time has become out of my control due to work. Some days I work over 11 hours and by the time I come home even though I have a lot of blogging things to do…I just don’t. I miss being able to keep up with my blogging though. Is that weetabix in your breakfast? Love them!
AC
Ok so usually I’m an early riser but last night, I was actually UP UNTIL 4:30. Just couldn’t sleep. HATE INSOMNIA 🙁
I don’t technically have ANY cereal in the house…unless granola counts. I’ve got some sort of local cherry almond quinoa granola (oh how I love living in California and getting locally made granola haha) and Enjoy Life cinnamon raisin crunch granola, which isn’t nearly as good.
This morning’s breakfast was plain Greek yogurt, fresh farmers’ market strawberries (can’t wait to buy more on Sunday), cherry almond quinoa granola and the last of a jar of almond butter. I had been saving that last bit until my local Trader Joe’s restocked their supply. They had been out for over a month because their supplier went out of business or something. Of course there are plenty of other places to buy it, but it’s so cheap at TJ’s!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The farmer’s markets in Cali must be amazing. We have a pretty decent sized one here, but it’s seriously lacking in the produce. There’s a lot of breads, sweets, meats, cheeses, and eggs, but when it comes to fruits and veggies? Mostly just tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, and carrots. Le sigh.

I do a blog that’s probably .023% the reach of yours, but I can relate to the mental and time demands. I like to respond to nearly every comment, which I can do, fortunately, because I get 2-3 at most per post. But looking at just today’s comments and all your replies, you’re working the day and swing shift and prepping during graveyard. Your photography – all I can say is wow. Sometimes I need a shot with another human to model a situation, but it’s asking a lot. I imagine you run into the same thing. Anyway, the kudos I’ve received about my blog, I’m passing to you.
Ashley @ AlmostVegGirlie
I could never wake up at 4:30! What’s crazy is that I woke up at 10 today and I NEVER do that (8 to 9 is my usual wakeup in the summer) but I had a long day yesterday so I’m figuring my body just needed the extra sleep.
I just got back from vacation, and seeing those perfectly ripe bananas is reminding me that I need to go to the store ASAP to restock on fruit. I go through fruit so fast in the summer, but it’s worth it to enjoy all the amazing produce.

cream cheese + maple syrup on an english muffin sounds great! i love pb + honey.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
[AB] and honey is one of my current obsessions. Or AB and jam. Or… really… AB and anything sweet
Alex @ therunwithin
my mind has been racing too, I now keep a notepad next to my bed for that reason exactly. I wish I could take beautiful pictures like you do

Just found your blog – adore! I now want an english muffin with cream cheese. WHY did I never think of this before?
Miss Polkadot
Believe it or not but I was actually going to suggest Annie’s Mac & cheese to you as a quick dinner before deciding it wasn’t creative enough. Hence the rice cake pizza suggestion yesterday.
Not usually a fan of numbers but here are some of mine:
6 kitchen sponges bought today [why are there always six in a packages???]
5 newspaper articles read while eating dinner
4 pounds of apples bought at the Farmers Market
3 squares of Lindt eaten
2 household duties to get done tomorrow
1 long-awaited phone call to my sister hopefully happening this weekend.
0 boxes of cereal sitting in my pantry because you know about the limited choices around here
You’re SO not alone on finding blogging to influence your sleep. Only for me it’s the other way around: Seeing as bloggers overseas tend to post when it’s late around here already I’m staying up too long to catch up their blogs. Trying to cut back, though, because I need more sleep :).
Hope you’ll have a great weekend!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually cried a little when I was in Europe a few summers ago and saw how limited the cereal selection was. Buuuuut on the other hand, you guys have tonnes of delicious desserts, and I always find the food over there to taste so much better than it does here.
Katherine
I wake up at 6 for cross country and end up doing IG, email, and comments at 6:30 AMish. It’s so crazy how technology oriented I am! Okay I made some numbers now!
1… ingredient- honey roasted peanuts needed to make my fav homemade peanut butter.
2… workouts of basketball and cross country finished today.
3… snacks eaten since I woke up (WOW!).
4… miles run (yay!) 5 cups of water so far.
5…recipes I’ve found that I want to recreate.
6…minutes to take my shower this morning.
7… this is all I can do woops!
Katie @ Live Half Full
What a great idea for a blog post! I may have to copy! 😉

I am so interested to find out what mac and cheese tastes like- all the love it receives I imagine- very delicious! I really want to try maple syrup- the Canadian treasure sounds delightful and smokey- I always have honey on everything- I know maple syrup would appeal to me! Numbers- 1 new addict of vegemite(me), 2 thousand tomatos about to meet there timely end for tomao day at nonnas farm this weekend, 3 hours spent crying last night, 4 combinations of vegemite on toast tried this week, 5 slices of vegemite on toast eaten in the last 24 hour period, 6 days getting ready to fish with my papa this summer ( I’m a little scared!), 7 minutes spent talking Lucas into watching GOT with me 😉 xo Sophia
Sarah Pie
Aww I only keep 2 cereals in rotation (honey nut and corn Chex) but I do get up to 6 ingredients in my cereal mess 🙂 Cereal, plain dried cranberries, walnuts, chia seeds, cinnamon, unsweetened vanilla almond milk = one hot mess of breakfast goodness (haven’t tried it yet but next time I get a jar I’m tempted to throw some almond butter in there for good measure).
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Do it! Do it! Almond butter takes everything to a WHOLE new level of deliciousness.
